    This is why you leave the relief valve in the fuel rail. Your injectors are most likely fine S&S and DDP use a blue band seal I believe that are rated for about 32k psi. The stock LB7-LLY FRPS is rated for about 26k psi. You are most likely running max rail pressure at idle. I have had this happen many times at the shop. Knowing you are running a dual Pump kit you need make sure you are getting voltage to the FCA. Use a multi meter on the factory FCA harness it works on a 5V reference. The more voltage the less rail pressure. If you are running at full 5V when you prove the FCA plug off the original harness that means the ECM is doing everything it can to bring down rail pressure. If you are only getting .5-1V the ECM is not detecting the high rail pressure which can be a wiring issue to the rail pressure sensor. Your top pump is working off the PPE dual pump box. Those CP3 pump controllers go bad all the time. Make sure your getting voltage out of the box into your second CP3 pump. If all wiring is good make sure all your return fuel lines are Plumbed correctly. If you have a restriction in the return line it will mechanically push the FCA open causing a Max Rail scenario. Rule of thumb on Cummins and Duramax with the Common rail injection system is you always want the return double the size of the feed. You are hearing the knock because the injectors are getting fed way too much fuel for the pulse width that you are commanding at idle. Now here is where the EFI live comes into play. In a file in FCA mA (milliamps) table the more rpm it has the less mA you will see. Usually we like to multiply the entire FCA table by 1.8-2.1 to calm down both pumps at idle. That’s why when you give the pump more voltage it will give the truck less fuel. The less voltage the more fuel it has. Seen this 100 times on a duramax and fought a issue like this for a year on a cummins. The truck sat for a YEAR in my shop. On the Duramax on the older style rail pressure sensors you can flip the plug so it WILL plug in both ways I’ve seen that happen also and it causes max rail. If your lift pump pressure is too high it will also push the FCA wide open just like if you have a blocked off return. That’s why the truck cranked for so long as well because it has no rail pressure reading it was trying to go to max rail and that takes a lot of rpm. I sent you a DM on Instagram I own a shop. I’m 100% willing to help you for free and get you on the road, this is nothing that you can’t fix in your garage.

    Obviously your checking your cp3 mprop connectors but just in case they are plugged in check to make sure your dual filter box has power I had same one and fuse blew and rail pressure went to 26k just like if it was fca/ mprop was unplugged. Last but not least check your low pressure fuel from the air dog I know they say they are preset but I have had three of them be wrong right out of box. If that big 220 air dog is making more then 12 lbs it will push mprop open and you get high rail pressure. You were maxed out so I’m leaning towards you didnt connect the fca connector on one of them or the dual fueler box is not powered up. You will get it you always do

  • @johnbrown2452
    @johnbrown2452 Рік тому +6

    Reduce the pressure on your lift pump, that’ll resolve the issue with rail pressure. My LB7 had that issue with the air dog II 165, dropped (cut)a coil off the pressure spring to get the pressure down. Brought it for 22k psi to 4900 psi

And that’s what I did, I drove all the way to Nevada from California and picked up a grandpa owned LBZ 165k mile SLT in show room condition from the original owner (he was a true grandpa, he looked like Yosemite Sam LOL. Needless to say I towed my Corolla on an auto transport all the way back home and I couldn’t tell the difference I was towing something back there. On 7% grades I’d be passing up semi’s at 80mph at times and I’d barely be on the throttle!! Not used to that much power/torque it’s insane. You da man, truck master!

      Well I hope it clears up… awesome build.
      Also I’d be careful with those welding masks that you hold up, because some don’t block all the uv light from your eyes and face.

    @Truck Master MAN I had the same leak in my LML after I installed a WCFAB compound turbo setup. I tried installing a new stock oil pan and even a new PPE oil pan....NO LUCK. Then I saw where some guys were running a gasket instead of the sealant....NOPE didn't work either! HAHAHA I could NOT get it to seal up and ended up yanking the entire engine out to go ahead and replace the front/rear main seals that were leaking a tad. I bought a new upper oil pan since I had to drill/tap the pan back towards the starter for the atmosphere turbo oil return. That oil return leaked as well. I drilled/tapped the new upper oil pan and made sure the threads were centered in the crosshatching on the underside of the upper oil pan. The threads actually get a good bite now so I'm crossing my fingers that it doesn't leak anymore! If it does, I will be selling the compound setup and going to a big single.
    Truck looks sick BTW! Great job!

      Sounds weird but I used the gasket silicone on the return fitting threads as well I wonder if it will prevent it from leaking

      @@TruckMaster I bet it helps, that's a good idea. I will use some as well. 👍
      I think I messed up by not letting the sealant sit for a day or at least overnight. I bet that would've done the trick. I had bought some sealant that said you can add oil immediately after installing but it didn't hold up. Oh well, guess we will see once I get this thing stuffed back in. 🤞🤞👍

      @@TruckMaster Hope you get it all buttoned up soon and smooth sailing. I feel your pain man. 😋
      I had installed the new upper oil pan, front timing cover, and was cleaning up my work area the next day....found a dang oring and it looked like the oring that goes on the back of the oil pump in between the pump and block, I put a new OEM oil pump in since it was easy to replace. It was a pretty big setback to take it all back off, remove the front cover/upper oil pan, clean all that sealant off which takes forever when you are OCD like I am. But it had to be done, there's no way I'd be able to install the engine without VERIFYING that oring was on the new oil pump. Long story short, I had installed the new oring so I threw it all back together and hoping to have it installed this weekend. 🤞🤞
      Take care man!

    Lift pump runs with the key on? The guy at kennedy lift pumps talked me into the kit so it only kicks on when fuel pressure is present. In case you get in an accident it doesnt keep runnig.

    Why can't u use a factory oil pan gasket instead of sealing it with a sealant

    Hey Josh, how long ago did you get the compound turbo kit from HSP? I called them last June 2022 and they told me they no longer sell them. I have a LB7 and would like to install a compound turbo kit without relocating the battery. I cannot find any other kit that does not have to relocate the battery. I have been watching your channel off and on for several years and appreciate all you share with us.
