I like how some games refuse to let you be a jerk. Like in Ocarina of Time, if you say “No” after Zelda asks if you believe her story, she’ll say something like “You don’t? Well then, let me tell you again” and it’ll repeat over and over again until you answer yes
Nintendo doesn't want you to feel bad so they choose the easiest option. Give the player the illusion of choice. Works every time.
At least that one doesn't default to "No", unlike a certain owl's dialogue. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet definitely have an illusion of choice.

And some are just the illusion of choice. In DQ7 the question is worded like a double negative (something like “are you not gonna tell me?”) so whether you say yes or no the game assumes the interpretation and you choose not to tell the person either way

Gotta love the illusion of choice in the majority of Nintendo Games. That's what makes stuff like the Paper Mario series so awesome. The choices give you actual options. Even if it leads to an early Game Over.

Custom robo is the best example. You can keep insisting on giving your ally your super important bracelet. At the end of the game, they need it, and you have to run the entire way back to the beginning of the game to get it back from her house.

I guess they still wanted Hooktail to be a, well, perv, but the foot thing goes too far in THIS day and age.
I always chose these dialogue options in my second playthrough of the game, no matter the game. I wanted to savor my first playthrough, and raise hell on my second.

My favorite one comes from Explorer of Sky. This happens when Chimecho wants to move where your party members will appear once you add them to your team to the Spinda Cafe:
*Chimecho:* Would you like to meet up with your team members waiting at the café?
_(Player says No Way.)_
*Chimecho:* W-what?! N-no… way?! Are you making fun of me, [player name]? You are! I know it! You said "No way" to see how I'd react, didn't you? …I understand how you feel… Even if you select a "No," you eventually have to select the "Yes," so it always ends up the same anyway… That comes up frequently, that sort of thing…

I believe it was in one of your previous videos, but I still love that you can get a game over at the beginning of Super Paper Mario by telling Merlon you don't want to collect the Pure Hearts and save the world.
That game has a few more game-overs like this. For example, you'll get a game over if you refuse to put on a "helmet" and instead suffocate in space, or if you refuse to help that ruler of the Underwhere (forgot the name lol).
I will list all of the Instant Game Overs via bad dialogue options here, if you'd like to see them all:
*Paper Mario TTYD/Paper Mario 2*
- Saying "yes" to reading the Ghost Toad's diary in Chapter 7. If all of the warnings are all ignored, the ghost curse will kill Mario.
- Selecting "become her servants" when the Shadow Queen offers to do so in Chapter 8. This results in brain washing with dark magic, a bad ending & a game over screen.
*Super Paper Mario*
- Saying "nah" to Merlon at the prologue of the game too many times. This leads to a bad ending & a game over.
- Saying "no" too many times in Chapter 4 when Tippi begs Mario/Peach/Bowser to put on their space helmet. Tippi will abandon them in space for their idiocy.
- Saying "no" too many times to Queen Jaydes when she asks Mario to search for Luvbe in Chapter 7. She traps Mario in the Underwhere forever on endless pit clean-up duty after getting angry enough.
- Saying "yes" to Dementio in Chapter 8 when he asks Mario to help him. This results in a bad ending where they're possessed by parasitic plants to follow Dementio's orders as mindless drones.
*Paper Mario: The Origami King*
- Saying "no" to paying 1000 coins in the Sniffit Mood mini-game at the desert town if the game is lost. Mario gets sucked into a giant genie lamp with Luigi.
- Saying yes to Olivia & going down her path in the jungle; the Macho Chain Chomp will find & eat Mario, Kamek, Bowser Jr. & Olivia.
- Saying yes to Bowser Jr. & going down his path in the jungle; the Macho Chain Chomp will find & eat Mario, Kamek, Bowser Jr. & Olivia.
Paper Mario 64/Paper Mario 1, Sticker Star & Color Splash has no instant dialogue game overs as far as I know.
Although u do have do more than once tho
I can't believe I completely forgot that Hooktail dialogue, it's so weird and out of place that I wouldn't expect it to be forgettable, thanks for showing it.
I just played that part and was taken aback. It definitely got a laugh out of me though.

In Sun and Moon you can tell Lilly that Tapu Fini will not bring Nebby back and she will get angry.
I really hope that all Paper Mario "bad options" are eventually featured. Here's a list of ones I can remember (& a few other Nintendo games with bad dialogue options):
*Paper Mario 64*
- Saying "no" to Party Members who want to join; they get sad
- Saying you're "Mario" or "Princess Peach" to Vultor. She will attack you, knowing you are Mario.
- Telling Bowser & Kammy things Mario is afraid of at the start of Chapter 5, & picking the worst choices (very dangerous enemies). Kammy will put these enemies in Shy Guy's Toybox.
*Paper Mario: TTYD*
- Again, saying "no" to characters who want to join the party.
- Calling Punio a nerd when he's afraid, & saying "Nah" when he asks you for help. He gets very nervous.
- Saying "Let there be hotdogs!" after catching the obviously alive egg with a baby Yoshi inside at an egg hotdog stand. The partner will tell Mario off.
- Choosing to read the Ghost Toad's diary when your friends warn you not to in Chapter 7. The Toad Ghost's curse will kill Mario.
- Saying "become her servants" to the Shadow Queen. This gets you a bad ending & a game over.
*Super Paper Mario*
- Saying "nah" to Merlon too many times when he asks Mario to save the world.
- Saying "no" too many times to putting on a space helmet in Chapter 4.
- Say no to helping Queen Jaydes find Luvbe too many times.
- Saying "yes" to Dementio when he asks you to team up with him enough times.
*Pokémon*
- Black & White: Saying "no" often to N when you encounter him (he gets upset with you in most cases, especially at Chargestone Cave).
- Scarlet & Violet: Saying "no" to Nemona, especially when she asks you to be her rival for life after the champion battle (she gets yandere-like)
*Harvest Moon DS* - Being nice to Mayor Thomas, & then not saving him from your angry dog when he insults you (this actually kills him, & credits appear).
*Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons - More Friends of Mineral Town* - Saying "no" to Mayor Thomas. He leaves & the credits roll.
Space helmet scene is one of the funniest to me. "So let me get this clear: you enjoy NOT breathing. Please. Put the helmet on..."

One of my favorite moments in Ace Attorney is that in one of the trials, you have to defend a mob boss son and at one point you hsve to say who planned for him to use the gun, and there's unique dialogue if you say it was either the father or mother who did it
One of my fav moments in AA has to be the fact maya gets convicted every 7 milliseconds for murder
I like how Rowan knows that if he doesn't finish his dialogue, than the player can't move.

The ending is just a depressing last speech from Isabelle.
I want there to be a game, where, fairly early on, you have a chance to get an artifact that greatly boosts something useful, like attack power or money earning or something along those lines. But because you did something very evil to get it, for the rest of the game, EVERYONE hates you. They will not give you quests, they will not sell you anything, and they'll just brush you off or insult you when you try to talk to them. And at the end, after you've completed the main objective, you're still considered an outcast, so you're stuck with the bad ending and victory is hollow at best.
Story of my god damn life.
Something like this happens in Links Awakening, if you steal something and survive the wrath of the shopkeeper Link's name is permanently changed to thief
While not an evil way to get it, the golden lumber in Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town does everything you said.
By putting a golden lumber in your farm, the following day, everyone suddenly hates the player character (even your best friends & rich characters such as the Mayor), & will insult your character on a daily basis until the golden lumber is removed.
That sounds like Fallout. Except I would just kill everyone anyway quest or not.

I've always been too afraid to say the wrong choices in dialogue sequences because I'm always worried that it will either result in some sort of game over or similar consequences, or I might miss out on an important item, party member, or other such thing. And I don't want to have to reset and lose progress over something that could so easily be avoided.
"Well, I suppose I could apply by letting you smell the bottoms of the feet."

Oh, you mean the game where there's a hangman's noose in the center of the hub town and a crime scene with blood, where Mario's body is stolen by a ghost, where one guy literally absorbs champion fighters to keep himself young, and where it's all but stated that you do straight-up kill the sapient dragon bosses? Also, one of the companions, according to the original Japanese version, is a transvestite. And that's just all I can remember!

The Mario characters who can’t talk would have much funnier dialogue if the words in parenthesis broke the fourth wall and said something like "You're lucky I can't say actual words…"

Though technically not a Nintendo game, in Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, (which was exclusive to the gamecube) if you ever picked any options that weren't basically saying "CONGRATULATIONS" to Van the traveling merchant when he would tell you that he had lost weight, he will get very very sad and never bring it up again

Isabell's dialogue just makes me sad. Like what shes saying is sad overall, but Isabell is just one of my favorite characters of all time and to think that in their world, its basically death for them is like really sad.

One honourable mention, in fire emblem shadows of valentia with cipher dlc 1 and 2, Emma and Yuzu will ask for your help to save their friends and you can actually bully them by saying no and you get up to 10 dialogue when they freak out and begged for you to help them and wont quit until you said yes
There's something particularly wild about Hooktail specifying "no nostril contact" AFTER Mario had already agreed to it. Like.. I don't think you need to add conditionals when the whole thing is a trick anyways.

Custom Robo let you refuse to go to the final area and would keep asking you to reconsider for something like 10 dialogue checks. If you said no through all of them then you'd get a 4th wall breaking message from your party member that they lost without you and he died because you wouldn't go with them
Another honourable mention is in Super Paper Mario for the Wii after the long cutscene Merlon will ask for your help to save the world and if you refuse to take the pure heart enough of time you’ll get an automatic game over before the game even starts

Even more extreme in Golden Sun. After the Soul Sanctum events that mark the start of your journey, you are asked if you accept your quest. If you keep replying no, the game just ends.
Also, if you win your first fight against the villains (which you’re supposed to lose), they note that you must have cheated.
I can't believe that Super Paper Mario is not on the list.
