- Beam Design as per IS-456(2000)
Given:
Length of Beam = 5m
Required Moment (Mreq)= 166.7kNm
Required Shear Force (Vu)= 200kN
Assume:
Width of the Beam= 0.23m (Depending on wall thickness)
Grade of Concrete(fck)= M25 (25N/mm2)
Grade of Steel (fy)= Fe415 (415N/mm2)
Cover for Reinforcement (C) = 25mm
Diameter of the Main Bar=16mm (2 No’s)
Design of Main Bars:
Depth of Beam:
Using Formula: M= 0.138 fck b d2
d req= √(M/(0.138 fck b))
Therefore, Overall depth Required
D = d req + cover
d = Dprovided - Cover - D_main/2
Moment Capacity for the Designed Beam
M Capacity= 0.87 fy Ast d ( 1 - (Ast fy)/(b d fck) )
Where: Ast = No’s of Bar X Area of one bar
IF: M Capacity more than Mreq : Design is Safe or else redesign
Ast provided = Dia of Main bar X No’s of Bars
Design of Shear Reinforcement (Stirrups):
Diameter of the Stirrups =8mm (Two legged)
Pt = (100 Ast provided)/(b d)
Refer Table-19 of IS-456(2000)
Therefor Design Shear Strength = Ꞇc N/mm2
Shear Strength Required Ꞇv = Vu/bd N/mm2
If: Ꞇc less than Ꞇv (Provide Minimum Shear Reinforcement)
Else
Vus = Vu - Ꞇc x b x d
Spacing of stirrups
Sv = (0.87 fy A_(sv ) d)/Vus
Where Asv = 2 x Area of one bar
the example does not satisfy practical experience though it was very help for beginners, i suggest to come up with more complex loading such as negative moments & torsion effects as well as haunched beam design for shear governing cases. thank you and thumbs up for the video
first of all u learn basics, and these complex loading negative moment torsion effect reversal effect ,only put value in formula and u get answer.

At video length 4:4 minute , it's stating that kN/m2 and N/mm2 are same. Seems misleading. Please correct
1KN/m2 is equals to 10^9 N/mm2
