  • Let's explore the story of the William Curry Mansion in Key West. It's located at 511 Caroline Street, and it has a fascinating history. Back in 1855, a man named William Curry, who became Florida's first millionaire, built his home here. He lived in this house for nearly 40 years.
In 1905, William Curry's son, Milton, decided to make some changes. He kept the old stone kitchen but built a big, beautiful mansion in a Victorian style. That's the mansion you see there today.
Here's a fun fact: In the old kitchen, when it was still part of William Curry's house, a cook nicknamed "Aunt Sally" is said to have baked the very first Key Lime pie in a wood-burning stove. This could be where the famous Key Lime Pie was born!
As you explore the mansion, you'll notice the lovely woodwork made from Birdseye maple in the 22-room house. The mansion itself is made from a strong and termite-resistant wood called Dade County Pine. That's why it's still in great shape after 105 years.
Now, here's a family story: William Curry gave each of his kids $5,000 to help them buy their own homes. This led to a friendly competition among his seven children to build the most extravagant houses in Key West.
Milton Curry was just one of those kids, and he built an impressive home here too. So, if you're curious about the history of this place, the Curry family, and maybe even the birth of Key Lime Pie, it's a spot you should definitely check out!
Visit the William Curry Mansion at 511 Caroline Street in Key West, Florida, to learn more about its history and enjoy its beauty. It's a piece of history you won't want to miss!

Hello! This says 6 months ago. I’m getting bad reviews that are recent. Do you think it’s in bad shape now with the new owners?
