After using the FS7 for 4 years, there are features that are inherently different from the new Sony FX9. Keep in mind that none of these have nothing to do with the image quality- it's more about workflow and menu differences. Overall, I think the FX9 is a fantastic camera and is in a similar boat to the FS7 when it was released: a lot of features and refining were done with firmware updates and quickly became one of the most popular production cameras in the world. If you haven't used the FS7 before, all of these points likely won't matter as much to you. Hopefully this is helpful if you're considering purchasing camera yourself- it's nice to know what's changed and what hasn't.
Update: disregard #5, the distance display (meters/feet) setting is buried in the menus.

Sony said that FX9 is not the New FS7. FX9 is a Bridge between FS7 and Venice, I think that the options that you want will be in the future FS7 or FS5. Thanks for your video
Love your content Rob, please keep it up. loved your stuff with the FS7 (it actually was one of the contributing factors to make me buy one, which has been a fantastic business move), and I am really interested to see how the FX9 plays out for you over the next year or so as (hopefully) new firmware deals with a bunch of these issues...

Is this better than the Varicam LT in the Dynamic Range?
In my honest opinion this is a LITTLE bit overpriced because they it will only be able to do ProRes Raw on a Atomos Neon.
If it did ProRes Raw on the Ninja V it would be worth every cent of the 11 grand IMO.
Lastly, do all the internal codecs have high latitude kind of like ProRes Raw?

Well, if the eye autofocus works as A7III changed the wedding and portrait photography then this camera is the must have for "solo" and "run and gun" situation. Will you bring us some tests ?
Rebooting the camera every time you want to change from FF to S35 and changing frame rate is not practical for weddings. A7iii you turn the dial and you’re done. Digging through menus the whole day, you’ll miss half of the action. If you had a user button you could assign settings to, that would help, it still got to reboot the camera...
would love to see a side-by-side image quality comparison with the fs7 and fx9!

I love the fx9 but i think they need to update it to the same featureset as the a7s iii like 16bit raw output WITHOUT a gigantic raw module. The same Framerates and especially 4k 120 ... i mean why is it easier to get 4k120 on a fs700 as on a fx9? That does not make sense imo but other than that i hope one day to own a fx9
I hear ya. The most striking quirk is that the a7s III will have more recording modes out of the box than the FX9. However even with all the quirks, it remains to be a workhorse of a camera and generally my go-to for jobs.
1:44 in the video you show the MLUT "on" for the Monitor Out while the Internal is "off"...how did you get there? On my camera when the Internal Rec MLUT is off, the Monitor Out option is grayed out and if i select it it tells me i can't proceed. if I turn the Internal Rec MLUT on...then it also turns on the Monitor Out LUT but if i then try and select to change it tells me the operation is not available. But in your video you seem to be able to change each independently. I'm missing something and you would think i could figure this out seeings as though i'm also an fs7 owner...its not a good look! What am i missing?

Yikes! No on camera LUT support?? Obviously most folks will be using external monitoring but still... Even the Blackmagic pocket cameras can do that. Speaking of LUTs, how are you grading your files? I've heard you mention resolve a bit more lately. Have you messed with aces yet?
I've been editing 100% in Resolve since about a month ago, it's been great. I also got the BM keyboard and Micro Panel. Haven't dived into ACES yet, but I will soon!

How high is your serial number? I have a sn of 55 and I am on 1.01. I CAN set the distance to feet.

Hey Robert, can you confirm that, currently, the FX9 can't support FF 4K 60p recording? As that's coming in a new firmware, is that right?

I know these issues will all be fixed in firmware but god darn FX9 is a newer better camera than the FS7 there are no excuses for no Lut support, Roll Numbers not auto-updating, SDI Output luts being all or nothing.. there's no excuse in the year 2020 to pay Double the price of an FS7 for more silly quirks in a camera system
Sony is rushing out this camera to the customer to fight against canon c500ii. That explains the incomplete menu and has to wait for future update for FF DCI 4K.

Whilst I agree with most of the things, many of which I am certain will be fixed in firmware, you said they you tried really hard to not make a clickbait title. Did you? Did you though?
At the end you said the pros far outweigh the cons yet there are ten reasons why you don’t like this camera. So you don’t like this camera then? Very confusing if the pros outweigh the cons.
So back to your title, I don’t think your tried very hard. How about “10 things I want to be fixed on the Sony FX9”?

Robert Machado so even though the pros outweigh the cons you don’t like the camera? Pretty much everything you have listed is quite minor and fixable with firmware. Most of these have been passed onto the Sony engineers as firmware requests.

Robert Machado hugely confusing! Both the title of the video and your reply to me stated you don’t like the camera. Perhaps “don’t like about the camera” would be less misleading. Sorry it’s just negative titles which aren’t entirely reflected in the video I find a bit dishonest.

No Color Grading etc. WYSIWYG using the Sony FX9 FULL-FRAME 6K Sensor in 4K Unedited/Ungraded with Kit Lens. 24p. No Stabilization-no color grading. Straight out of the camera using XAVC-I Codec S-Cinetone edited in FCPX 10.4.8. Interior and exterior shots. We love the new FX9

Estaría bien añadir que tampoco se puede subir el iso tanto en 800 como en 4000. Cuando no grabas en UHD O DCI. Algo que ya pasó en las primeras versiones del firmware de la fs7. Ojalá liberen estas opción como la de poder usar lut de forma independiente a cada salida o evf en futuras actualizaciones
