The videos from Times Microwave say crimp only once. Do not crimp a second time further back from the connector.

Times Microwave says crimp only once. Don't crimp a second time further back on the ferrule.

Bit difficult to perform this test if one end of the cable is at the top of the mast.

I don't understand... the RF travels on the inside surface of the foil, yet the connection with this connector, the connection is made on the outside of the foil. More confusing, the inside of the foil has a super thin insulated coating, so there would be no RF connection if you got the connector inside the foil. There is little point in buying high performance cable unless the connectors are fitted perfectly. So a bit lost really. To put this in perspective RG213, which is a conventional heavy copper braid and no foil, has a loss of 3dB at some length at 450MHz. An equivalent foil wrapped cable has about 2dB loss same length same frequency. We have 1dB in the savings budget. It would be easy to lose that if the foil connection is not correctly addressed in the terminations.

The signal travels along the surface of the centre conductor. The outer sheath is for shielding. The distance from the centre conductor to the outer sheath is for the sine wave.
