Doomscroller Lyrics :::
Lining up all the numbers under the names
Lining up all the numbers under the names
Notify the next of kin of the circumstances
Was it an act of god or an accident
An act of god or an accident
Or a consequence of a lower profile
Salt of the earth underpaid to serve you
Salt of the earth underpaid to serve
and teach your children
Salt of the earth underpaid to serve
and scrub the toilet
Salt of the earth underpaid to serve
and scrub the toilet
Ruling classes trickle piss
From champagne glasses
That’s just how the evening passes
For a true doomscroller
And I’m a true doomscroller
I cant seem to shut it down
Until the worst is over
And it’s never over
Arrogance of a coward hostile
Scum of the earth overpaid to rob you
Scum of the earth overpaid to rob
and mock resistance
Scum of the earth overpaid to rob
Anonymously from a distance
Scum of the earth overpaid to rob Anonymously
Ruling classes trickle piss
From champagne glasses
History on repeat relapses
For a true doomscroller
Dog whistle links to a torch song
Torch song links to a statue burning
Moon landing links to Q Anon
Rabbit in a deep hole keep on dancing
Don’t give up yet
Don’t give up yet
Don’t give up yet
Don’t give up now
Lining up all the numbers under the names
Lining up all the numbers under the names
Boy, I’m a true doomscroller
I’m a true doomscroller
I can’t seem to shut it down
Until the worst is over
And it’s never over
Don’t give up yet
Don’t give up yet
Don’t give up yet
Don’t give up now
Take something for the pain
Not something to conceal it
More like a magnification mirror full-size
Inner echo reflecting solace revived
Whatever you do
Either way we’re gonna love you
Never mattered
Either way we’re gonna love you
Whatever you do
Either way we’re gonna love you
Never mattered
How many or how much more
You’ve been through
Take this for the heartache
Not some cure to negate it
More like a magnification mirror full-size
Inner reverberation happens outside
Whatever you do
Either way we’re gonna love you
Never mattered
Either way we’re gonna love you
Whatever you do
Either way we’re gonna love you
Never mattered
How many or how much more
You’ve been through
Come back to yourself from the battle

Saw you in Paris…. Was amazing 🤩
I never knew how much I needed to hear “either way we’re gonna love you”… my inner child says thank you. Great song guys.
It's pretty rare for a band that's been around 20+ years to be making music even better than the stuff that made them famous. But Metric pulls it off. Their music is actually getting better with time. It's crazy. Amazing song.
I say this about Metric all the time. They are one of the very few bands I like that I don't have qualify with "their early stuff" LOL.
Totally.
They have proved themselves among fans, now, feeling free in the creative process. ¡True musicians go for it without asking permission! ¡So cinematographic!
its funny because Its one of my favorite band but I think exactly the opposite way : for me, the last masterpiece was fantasies. Every albums before were crazy awesome. Synthetica was pretty strong too.
Albums are getting slightly worse since (even if I loved dark saturday and dressed to suppress on the last one and I think thats all).
But Its great that people got vibes and chills with their "electropop side" 😄 enjoy it bros, its a magnificent band.
This is cool to see, but over the years I continue to have this feeling that Metric doesn't connect internally since blowing up post live it out. Those first 3 records of theirs are much more honest and musically intricate IMHO! But don't let me sway you, enjoy what you do!
Notice the song evolves from pessimism to optimism. Goes from cold sadness to a warm cradling hug. She has this ability to reach in and grab your heart and pull you in for a warm embrace.
CQFD
Du beschreibst dieses Lied sehr gut, ich als langjähriger Metric-Fan war zu Beginn ein wenig abgeschreckt von diesem Song, aber je mehr man ihn hört umso besser findet man ihn
Human
We saw them in Brooklyn this post November and they started out with this song. I'm used to Metric making me get all teary-eyed with the last song of the night, ("Gimme Sympathy," "Live It Out,") so I figured they'd end with "Doomscroller." Nope, first song out of the gate, it was that one and I just started bawling at "Come back to yourself from the battle..."
i don't like that, i really only like the first half, idk about the chat of don't give up yet
Metric's music is progressive, sophisticated, always relevant, and it boggles my mind why this Canadian band has not dominated the world!
they have conquered us, its the main point 😄
it boggles my mind how many bands fit in that category. so true.
agreed on the progressive and contemporary part, I personally prefer old style of Metric, but they are still very solid and make enjoyable music nonetheless
They arrived a decade too late.
I remember ‘Combat Baby’ in the Rock Band video game that’s when I was first introduced to the band in the early 2005’s Emily Haines and her band just didn’t have appeal yet I was one of those people who didn’t really trust her style because she sucked live and I thought she was somewhat bias towards some kind identity I didn’t agree with cause I’m a guy It was not until Scott Pilgrim came out that they started getting more attention and recognition because before that you had other female 🧜♀️ mermaid siren competitors like Paramore, Sleigh Bells, Evanescence, The Pretty Reckless, and yeah yeah yeahs and it was overshadowing metric Her and her band got there writing and style much better since Scott Pilgrim and that Combat Baby album Old World Underground Where are you now so now that writings better and they’ve been able to change sound often for critics to say nice things and Emily is much more mature since I watch the interviews I can confirm the band sounds better than most music now not even Billie Eilish or Paramore or Pretty Reckless I like Cryoshell I wish they would get the recognition they deserve
The different style is that they gotten rid of there selfish worldly view and promote unity that is very important when making music Marilyn Manson was one those people that had take the time to figure that out
For example
Ed Sheeran figured it out immediately
I discovered this band a week ago when spotify recommended me black sheep. then i started listening to all their albums and found this masterpiece today
greetings from Indonesia
This is the "shine on you crazy diamond" for modern times, genius
this isn't just staying relevant, it's trailblazing.
Well fucking done.
This song makes me feel things I don't think I'm ready to feel. I don't even have the words. It's a masterpiece.
My sentiments exactly. It stirs a unrestful feeling but for a good purpose. DON'T GIVE UP NOW!
You're probably more ready than you think. DON'T GIVE UP NOW!
agreed - leave it to the genius of Metric to give us the song i needed but didn't even know it
This band....
Always had their finger to the pulse of humanity.
They have a talent for finding all your raw nerves, exposing them, and comforting by showing empathy and exposing their own.
❤
This song may be their magnum opus. A showcase of their lyricism, musicality, and Emily's ethereal vocals. Remarkable.
They were destined to make this masterpiece. It’s like the 20 years of this band’s existence in one song.
The last 2 minutes of the song is a complete bliss
Man, as a long time metric fan, this is a fucking standout. This song is incredibly good.,
I swear to god this makes me cry every time I hear it. So grateful for Metric ♡😭
This Found me at a perfect time. True beauty.
When she said: "Take something for the pain
Not something to conceal it
More like a magnification mirror full-size
Inner echo reflecting solace revived" I really felt that.
This, makes me well up every time I listen
"Whatever you do, either way we're gonna love you ", feelin it too :)

Same here friend.... everytime.
Realizing that this song isn't just about the habit of doomscrolling, but a love letter to those who suffer from mental health issues, and letting them know there is always help and hope for a brighter way forward. Lots of tears, but happy tears.
no, it’s about the people who work for the awful(could it be you and all of us) and so much more. you realized wrong. and it’s about the people who have found out about what is happening and become pariahs for telling the truth
This is one of the greatest songs of the 2000's!
Possibly Metric's finest moment. Just brilliant.
This song is a whole journey, so many emotions captured into 10 minutes
I do agree !!!!!
Metric is by far the # 1 talent for this type of music.
No tiktokers gonna ever listen this song or make a dance of it, because they can't pay attention to anything over one minute, let alone
this 10+ masterpiece, and I love that
Hahahahahaha
Bet watch me make 10
Can't stop listening to this.
This song is absolutely amazing. I love it.
"Come back to yourself from the battle" reliably has me crying every time, including when i saw them live.
I don't know what it is about Emily Haines. Songs rarely bring a tear to my eye, but boy there were tears at her last solo tour I went to - she just HITS THAT SPOT
The piano at the end felt like Soft Skeleton and Metric meeting at last and I'm in love.
Right? It felt like a remix, Metric, and Soft Skeleton all wrapped into one song.
Yes. Synthetica and Choir of the Mind vibes!
Omg yessssssssss. I felt this so hard too
Emily Haines and Metric are an absolute treasure. Thankful for them and all my fellow Metric fans. 🤘 🎶
🤘🤜🤛
I'm thankful for you too and how this music brings us together.
How did I only just now realize the ‘font’ in all the Art of Doubt lyric videos was Emily’s actual handwriting?
Seeing this song uncoil live must be an out-of-body experience. So hyped to see this live!
I had the great privilege of seeing it live-debuted in Mexico City on May 20. It was fantastic, and credit to the band for rehearsing it well. If they made any mistakes, I wasn't aware of it!
@@kerryobrien6110 I was there as well and even saw them perform next day in Corona Capital Guadalajara, and it was amazing both times, I've seen them live so far seven times, they've never disappoint, in 2019 they even sign my ticket, they are such a kind hearted talented band
Me too! I haven't seen them live yet. I can't wait until October.
Saw their second show during their current tour here in Victoria, B.C. - Doomscroller is a visceral treat live. Don’t miss them!
They opened the show in Toronto with this. It was a sublime experience.
I have been listening to this song a lot since it dropped. What a masterpiece. It’s been a really strange few years, hasn’t it? Pretty scary what we’re all capable of doing to each other and ourselves. Doomscrolling was a way to self soothe and maybe feel like I had some control over what was happening to me and the world at large. Let’s hope we can all come back to ourselves.
This song has a story to tell, from a dark beginning to a peaceful ending. Welcome back, Metric!
This song deeply resonated with me. It is more than music.
All the way from the mood and the lyrics, it was awesome. From a bit dark to:
"Whatever you do
Either way we’re gonna love you
Never mattered
Either way we’re gonna love you"
So beautiful finish.
If you sit back and close your eyes around 7:00 while listening to this on headphones, it is something else.
Regardless to how well this song does, you should definitely be proud of this one, it is something really special, with great lyrics and interesting transitions. This song is the crem de le crem, something that is definitely special and better than most music in general.
This basically encapsulates my entire emotional journey through the past 2+ years, and it goes through the whole arc of everything that I felt…. I was literally crying by the end. What a spectacular work of art…. I have no words at how much I am in awe at Metric…
The first time I heard this song I was completely blown away
I 100% feel this. I saw them live last week, they opened with this. I fucking SOBBED
@@nicholasgraveline7384I did too!! Was that the Brooklyn Steel show by any chance? They opened with this song and man, I've seen them quite a few times, and I'm used to them closing with a song that hits me right in the chest, but that time it was the first effing song out of the gate and I was just weeping. "Come back to yourself from the battle."
AWW YEAH THAT'S MY BAND
Bold to put a 10-minute song as the first track. What an opener!
Might be the best Metric's ever sounded, and lyrically intensely focused and tight.
A 10 minute banger, not many bands pull this off
That's amazing how you evolve! By looking outside of your original genre, with the vision you developed through the years of expierence, you're like musical sculptors - you take the material and cut away the extras.
Your music make me cry every time. Sometimes for the rapture of beauty I've never had or words words that have never been spoken to me and sometimes for the memories of the good things I had.
What you create is so powerful and beatiful!
Masterpiece
It's like 3 Black Mirror episodes in one. Damn dude!
Can't wait for this! I adore Metric. Please please,. would someone on Metric's team remaster all of the band's early music videos?! They're made so many good ones and it would be wonderful to see ones like Monster Hospital, IOU, Dead Disco and Gimme Sympathy in high quality!! :)
Yeah, I use TIDAL for high quality music and none of their stuff pre-Synthetica is available in Master quality which is a bummer.
Totally agreed
Metric you geniuses 🙏
Those Lyrics.....the music....that voice!
We love you too guys...this is an absolute masterpiece. I can't even begin to describe how much I love every singe bit of this song. I was so thrilled about the new album after many years, but I wasn't expecting it to hit that hard. Thank you Ems and Co. from the bottom of my heart. ❤
For me, Art of Doubt is their masterpiece... so far. But this album is so close ! Thanks Metric to be there ! I'm so sad so few people know them in France :(
this is an amazing way to start the album
This is pure genius.
I don't know what we did to deserve 10 min of this amazing music but holy hell. INCREDIBLE. Metric is always a 10/10!!!
Fucking hell! Feel exactly the same!
I does not get better than this song right here. A sonic masterpiece with all the feels. Well done, Metric. See you this summer in Madison.
Ultimate. I have loved Metric, but specifically Emily Haines since 2009, when I heard the song Help I'm Alive in Tower Records in Chicago, and a Visceral response Ive only had 4 times in my 51 yrs .... b-lined it to the coynter and emphaticallysaid,"WHO IS THIS?!!!
It's really my anthem in this crazy mad world...
Gives me chills
Emily’s voice is medicinal.
Dark and haunting, then joyous, hopeful and uplifting. Incredible track. This song and this band are total proof of my hope for the future of music! Real depth, real feeling and story, that was like an absolute journey of emotions. Never known a band to get better and better and better for 20 plus years. Amazing
Hardcore Metric is always amazing… bringing that live vibe to this album! Trent reznor like vibe
And 10 minutes long like a Tool song!
05:18 ( NIN - Copy of A)
@@HandThatFeeds my wife was a huge NIN fan and is a Metric fan so she was very happy to hear this song
@@jissanhuq3792 she has a good taste in music 👍
This is like 5 songs in one and I love it!
Dope! Metric always delivers stellar music!
How does this song go from METRIC to COCTEAU TWINS to NINE INCH NAILS and back to METRIC and still maintain its coherence? 🤯
There will never be a word strong enough to tell you what it feels like. To listen to your music, your lyrics, your voice. Ive fallen in love with your band in 2008 and the passion and thrills never, ever can stop. Thank you for making feel the way i feel when i listen to these songs you wrote, played, shared, recorded. Music is a miracle that you can expect everytime you push the play button, How can we not be just grateful about that.
I Listen to this when I'm really depressed. It doesn't make me happy, but it makes me feel normal. Normally depressed, not frantically depressed.
Love the shift in this song. From doom and gloom to a hopeful, uplifting sound
heard this one for the first time ever when seeing them live for the first time last friday
it blew me away, then hugged me, what an experience.
Went to see Metric in Vancouver last week and they opened with this song. I was blown away. I had four separate streams of tears running down my face. I wasn’t expecting it, but it felt like having a hood lifted off my head that had been sitting there for a long time.
I cried when I first heard this song. When I heard it live, I cried with hundreds of other people. It was hard, but necessary, to get us out of this hole we've all been hiding in.
One of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard and I cried
Absolutely the best song I have heard this year. On almost constant replay in my car...
Very chill and very good.
That was wild how it went from dark and foreboding EDM with a slightly menacing pre-Davos vibe and then 'BAM!', someone turned on the lights and it was just Mom, holiday phone call.
Always experimenting, we love Metric!
I've always loved your music... I thought that I came through the last 2 years in pretty good shape, relatively unscathed. Yet this song made me cry like a baby. In 10 minutes your released everything that was pent up in me since the beginning of this stupid nonsense. Thank you, I needed that.
Well said
This as the opening song was just amazing #portland
Emily is so very cool and talented...her voice touches my Soul!🙂🎁❤🎶
Metric will never let you down, can't wait 😍
Proud to say Metric is still my favorite band 20 years later
I like when you can make a ten minute song a nice little journey.
This brought me to tears, it's like Doomscroller laid the last twenty years of my life at my feet. Thanks Metric for the cosmic gut-punch, a simply amazing achievement.
Doomscroller is an anthem for today, for the world to move from widespread pessimism, anger, and hate to an insistence on a better future. The heavy baseline at the end punctuates that we should accept nothing less. Great band!
I just wanna give Emily Haines a big hug.
I've spent about 80 minutes now listening to this song. I started listening to metric in January - my new favorite band... excited to see you in Detroit.
discovered Metric about a year ago... and I gotta say, I'm straight up mad at everyone music lover that I know for not getting me into them sooner. I've loved all of their music that I have found, but this is insanely good. Welcome back Metric.
finally a song that you actually want to be more than 3 mins and the artist makes it 10 mins long THANK YOU.
Such a great moment this song, so many vibrations❤
cathartic masterpiece
You are so brave, Emily. I adore this and hope you keep speaking!!! Your voice is strong and so needed right now!! ❤❤❤
First song on the tour. Hits like a ton of bricks.... and then they lift them off.
goooood picture🖤👌🏻
What a way to start an album. I didn´t expect that ending from min. 6:00. It´s just dead cool, so emotional. It really touched my soul and made me feel so good inside. So great and talented musicians and that beautiful voice. Speechless! Brilliant!. Metric never disappointing.
My favorite song in a very long time. Hits so many spots. I just wish it were 20 minutes long.
This is Metric's Bohemian Rhapsody, Citizen Erased, Stairway to Heaven, Paranoid Android, Pagan Poetry, Three Days all rolled into one.
holy freek freek me...She ROCKS MY WORLD. METRIC/EMILY
Thank you, Metric, for reminding me for the millionth time why you're my favourite band. Can't wait for the new album and tour! I'll be front row centre in Victoria!
I like you guys, and I have sorrow.. I hope you drain it in your self before we all goes into the hell of destriction
Went to their second show here in Vic. Loved it.
One of metrics REALIST songs ever.
Fantastic!
"Doomscroller" is such a perfect title (and subject) for a song, tour, album. I'm sort of shocked it ISN'T the album title. Going to be hard for me to remember that it is actually Formentera----but, of course, Formentera is probably an equally brilliant song, because... Metric.
doesnt even feel like a 10min song wtf not a dull moment, it is emotional, gut wrenching, and the story telling is top notch
This song is becoming one of my favourites ever. Everything is so emotional and intense here. Dealing with depression and anxiety is described here, with ups and downs, blessings and doom.
This song is fucking incredible, one of my all-time favourites now. This song is therapy - transitioning from despair to hope, it is profoundly moving for me.
While 70’s disco makes its comeback, Metric presses the prog rock reset button - and I say hell yes to both!!
Sensational track, 4 styles in one piece! I love it, listened to over and over again. Great song, amazing, beautiful!
Thank you for everything
Damn!! Insanely good!!
This will sound strange but this gives me Opeth vibes in how the song takes you on a journey and indulges in itself. Love it!
True musicians do. Very few there are (unless you go for the real underdogs like Porcupine Tree, Anathema, Etc.). Without restrain for belonging to the radio and T.V., shows.
I got big Steven Wilson / Porcupine Tree vibes from this. And as Wilson was producer on several Opeth albums I expect that’s what you were picking up too.
Zeromancer vibes for me.
Love this!
A Modern Masterpiece. Well done.
