This song is pure perfection. The space vibes in the begining, and the last seconds. It's the feeling of pure joy flowing through your body. Emily's voice in the middle of all this. I just cant stop listening.
This feels like old rock metric plus amazing electronic elements of new Metric but with the radio playability of Fantasies. Yes this is the album we've been waiting for!!!!!!!!! :D
I'll admit that I kinda fell off with Metric for an extended period of time, but this is captivating stuff. Drums, vocals, and guitars are all pretty hypnotizing, right up my alley musically.
ARTV hey, fancy seeing you here! As a Canadian, it's hard to ignore/forget about Metric but Pagans in Vegas didn't speak to me at all. Synthetica was starting to step away but still had solid tracks to bring me back in. This new album is looking really promising. Gonna be tough to beat Fantasies though!
Have to say i did too, lost me at grow up & blow away & reeled me back in with fantasies kinda turned me off with synthetica a bit & pagans in vegas lost me but this has me wanting to buy the album
@ James W I'm layughing at your comments so hard right now :DD Such beautiful unexplanatory, deafening aggression, with no apparent trace from a spark that could have set you in these flames!
My God, the guitars have come back. I'm super excited. (I love their synth output, too, but there's been A LOT of synth in indie music these past few years. I have missed the guitars.)
This is so good, it's like a return to their old sound with heavy New Wave influence and Post-Rock sound. I equally love that their videos for this cycle are all black & white, giving it an extra gothy undertone. This song is like the little sister to "Black Sheep", I can't rave enthusiastically enough for how much I love this. The fade out at the end too; GENIUS!

I was at the show in Louisville at The Mercury when they premiered this song. It gave me chills! I love this official version. Metric never disappoints!!!
growing up I was missing out on this band. The way in which she uses her metaphore. How she/they chose to depict the metaphor they use is everything. Their new song risk is so gooood
Heard Breathing Underwater for the first time 10 minutes ago, now I love them. The music industry is harsh on great artists like Metric who dont quite make it into the global mainstream.
I've been a fan since 2006 and in October I am FINALLY going to get to see Metric live and these new songs are just solidifying my admiration for the band!
I've been a big fan of Metric since seeing them perform their "Live It Out" tour. I have all of their albums and been to many of their concerts. Any fan who hasn't seen a live Metric show is really missing out. Emily Haines is so energetic on stage and always puts on a great performance. Metric rocks!! Love you, Emily 😘❤️
So much authenticity in their music. The bass lines, guitar licks and electronic parts convinced me that this might be their best album yet. Can't wait for its realease!
Amazing song! Metric is one of those bands that are breaking boundaries and moving forward in every album they release without being noticed by te main stream... thank God to that. They came from the indie scene and they should remain there to keep on making the music they want to make :)
Antonio Torres haha that is rich. Dude they’re on tour with the smashing pumpkins, they’re gonna get hella mainstream...wait a second they’ve been mainstream since “fantasies.”
they started out mainstream, then they went underground. by which I mean: The band's name was originally "Mainstream", they changed it to "Metric", then released an album called "old world underground"
I didn't like their Pagans album at all. To me it sounded like 2 different universes colliding (electronica and acoustic) with no strong melodies. Seemed like the old Metric was gone. But now these new songs. Super good! They are back in form:)
Thank God for some genuine appreciation! Yes, Metric have constantly evolved from one album to the next, losing fans and gaining others on the way. I'm sick of reading comments by people who write about the "old" and "new" Metric, synth vs. guitars, etc. because they're locked into one style and reject others. How about welcoming change and evolution?
"We reach for the things we idolize, but the rings are just for show..." That line stands out to me. We look at the people in our lives and those around us and want what they have. Some of us look at their social media and see the happy relationships and marriages they're in and we want that so bad. What we don't stop and think about is that if they're truly happy or is it all just for show? We don't see the complete story when we see our family and friend's social media. Which leads to the line "dress to supress all kinds of sorrow". I may be wrong in that take, but what I really love about Metric is that their lyrics aren't too specific to one thing and you can interpret it in many ways. This song has become my life song.
This is probably gonna just get buried but I just got back from a concert where Leah Fay of July Talk ran out into the audience and started dancing her heart out with anyone she could grab, to this song, and I got to dance with one of my favorite artists while 30 feet away from one of my other favorite artists, playing one of my favorite songs, and I feel so lucky right now, they're both amazing
What a song! It must be about the relationship between the band and the audience.. Metric has primed in this album and undoubtedly their best material so far..
dude songs like this make you want to live forever 0:45-1:10 fucking angelic tones.... i just want to shout love is the only answer and do everything i set my mind to. It makes me believe were all coming back for infinity 8
I feel like im 14 again, finding cool songs on youtube before everyone else, ...im 28.. cant remember when I liked 3 songs in a row ive never heard before, from the same band, big wow
I can definitely hear a mix of their older albums and their newer ones in the song, it's always great when a band isn't afraid to experiment and evolve, instead of just playing it safe.
It was on UA-cam like 4 days before it was released believe it or not! It was uploaded but unlisted so you could only access it through a link. Noisey published an article with the link to the video in the middle of the day yesterday, that's how I found it.
LOVE the scream of the guitar at the intro !! and her voice has an urgency to it that is stellar compliment to that "wail' of the guitar Love these guys! much love all-me
I didn't know anything about this amazing band until I worked security at one of their concerts recently. Now they and Of Monsters and Men which I recently discovered are my two favorite bands. Also, I was backstage and Emily Haines seemed to be a very nice person.
Yes! Excited to hear the rest of this album. The is a great piece of music. Emily your delivery is so spot on, those subtle variances of cadence in the chorus, with style....smashing!
What I love most about Metric is how amazing they sound live! The energy Emily brings to the stage is captivating and the range she can belt out isn't even comparable. I actually saw them again last night and heard this song for the first time, and like so many of their songs, it starts off with you wondering how its gonna play out and by the end you're rocking right along. Hope this becomes another single cuz like someone below mentioned, its classic Metric reinvented
I could not be more excited about this new album. I don't know if I've just been Metric-deprived for a couple years but I'm so proud and excited for them I could scream. Fuck me up Emily. QUEEN.
I love Metric so fucking much. They are the best ever band to represent Canada. Its a crime ive only seen them 2 times. I will never miss one ever again i tell u that. This band has been together for 20 years making fresh cutting edge music. It is the highest calibre of pop music, from anywhere, maybe ever. Emily is my hero. For real I wish I could write half as good as she does. Every song is perfect. Her vocal range and style are a perfect pairing with some of the freshest grooves and driving basslines that will move you and not just on the dancefloor. I find the content of her work is so beautiful and relevant, to me at least, that it makes me smile through the tears. I breaks me down and builds me back up. Thank you so fucking much for this song.
Dark Saturday. If you search you can at least find the lyric versions on UA-cam. They have a video out, but it may only be available on their website. Not sure.
"We reach for the things we idolize But the rings are just for show Her beauty is a form of charity Dressed to suppress all kinds of sorrow" Is this song about how some people mask their sadness through material things? Definitely loving how this song is not easily decipherable. Plus, it gives me similar vibes as "Live It Out" (my #1 favourite album by them) and "Synthetica". 😊
I love when you discover a band late and their whole discography is fucking awesome!
Welcome to the club :) Better late than never!
Yep
Yeah, that was me discovering Metric last year.
it's like binge-listening! :)
Same here, a Metric song randomly played here on youtube, which has sent me on a bit of journey. Loving it. Might have to get along to the tour.
Her voice is butter and my ears are the toast
It should be the opposite , so ur ears melt on her voice
I think I'll put some more of that extra creamy butter on my ears... uuhh toast.
why does my comment never appear? about butts and toasters ... you losers!
audio heaven brother
Agreed 100%. Emily rocks!!
This song is pure perfection.
The space vibes in the begining, and the last seconds.
It's the feeling of pure joy flowing through your body.
Emily's voice in the middle of all this.
I just cant stop listening.
3 years later and I'm still obsessed with this album. Love all their stuff; this is some of their absolute best.
How is this pure joy? You heard the text? ^^ i love this song though
Metric has never once disappointed me with their music. Always coming back with consistent quality. True artists.
I totally agree !!!
This feels like old rock metric plus amazing electronic elements of new Metric but with the radio playability of Fantasies. Yes this is the album we've been waiting for!!!!!!!!! :D
lol Fantasies is Metric's 2009 album that broke into mainstream
Wow, haven't even heard the song yet, and this totally hyped me up! It's what I want out of a new Metric album!
They found their guitars again!
I feel the same
@@InstrumentManiac So hipster...
I just discovered this band and I'm so happy they started in the 90s and are only getting better with time. Emily Haines is a goddess.
I totally agree
Fuck outta here
this song in particular has a really heavy Synthetica feel to it, don't see what you're talking about tbh
Have to say i did too, lost me at grow up & blow away & reeled me back in with fantasies kinda turned me off with synthetica a bit & pagans in vegas lost me but this has me wanting to buy the album
Metric's guitarist is amazing at coming up with parts that mesh perfectly with Emily's voice.
Alex Kessler He’s a sweetheart too ❤️
Jimmy and Emily were made for each other.
He's so underrated, absolutely brilliant player, just not a flashy one
Steven Chabot Well said. Not too flashy.
@ James W
I'm layughing at your comments so hard right now :DD Such beautiful unexplanatory, deafening aggression, with no apparent trace from a spark that could have set you in these flames!
My God, the guitars have come back. I'm super excited. (I love their synth output, too, but there's been A LOT of synth in indie music these past few years. I have missed the guitars.)
These guys are a breath of fresh air, incredible sound, and what a voice
This song is Deep.....so Deep.
This band is like Peanut Butter and Jelly ! No matter how many times your taste it it just keeps getting better and better and satisfies
Yes man!
Band must be nearly 20 years old lol but they are definitely good.
@@MongoloidAlien exactly 20 years. I didnt catch on till 2010 but since then they have been a band I listen to daily.
Okay this is now my all time favourite Metric song.
I've been obsessed since they released it, absolutely BRILLIANT track.
Metric is a hidden gem! I discovered them around 1 month ago and since then can't stop listening their music
Man, this song gives me goosebumps when the guitar kicks in. So good.

I discovered this band on Triple J many years ago. Metric are still pumping out sweet tunes.
I CANT BELIEVE I HAVENT HEARD THIS SONG TIL NOW 💜💜💜💜💛
No other band has taught me the importance of authenticity more than Metric.
💖
Rush ...both canadians .....
They sound like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on this song....I think it's her vocals. Really enjoying this band.
I ran across this band about 3 years ago and they are amazing!
I know no other band who are as consistently good as metric. Every album has multiple bangers.
Everything that comes from Metric is wonderful ❤️

This not came from Mexico
Charly Ed Metric release lots of great music of course!

For the new album, it seems they’re combining old metric with new metric AND I LOVE IT
i get a little bit of a silversun pickups vibe. i love it. been loving metric since like 06.
Christopher Chaboyer and they are doing it perfectly
It is really effin amazing!

The best part of the new album is that Metric sounds like Metric - and it is awesome.
