Was speaking more towards the broader market than my own opinion.
It blows my mind how dismissive people can be over this. If someone slapped a loved one of mine while we were attending a high school sporting event I don’t know that I would ever forget that. It would forever alter my perception of that person. I could forgive them but I’d never see them the same again.
I don’t think the guy should lose his career but I also don’t think he suffered any real consequences. The guy slapped Chris Rock, went through the motions, then acts like nothing ever happened. That bothers me

Will Smith's career was in a natural slow decline prior to the slap. 'Gemini Man' was not a huge hit and it received a lot of negative reviews.. 'King Richard' bombed at the box office and the only positive thing about that movie was the superb acting by Will Smith and the supporting actress who played his wife. He's still a likeable actor though but can he still fill movie theater seats with just him alone as the lead actor??? He's gonna have Michael B Jordan with him in the sequel to 'I am Legend'. Of course Martin Lawrence helped too with the box office of 'Bad Boys 4'.
His career was actually building some momentum before the slap. Because he was actually making good movies or having fun roles again, and having box office hits. Just because a couple of his movies didn’t make a shit ton of money, doesn’t mean his career was declining. Actors have inconsistencies all the time. In the last 4 years he’s had 4 movies that were rated high with critics and audiences.
He was a huge draw and bright spot in Aladdin. Gemini Man still made nearly $200M (The Equalizer movies didn’t even make $200M). If it wasn’t for the high budget, we’d be putting that in the pro column. Bad Boys 3 was right after Gemini Man, and was a critical and box office hit. King Richard wasnt gonna be a box office hit because it went straight to streaming at the same time and Will paid his costars a bonus because of it. King Richard really just needed to be a critical hit for Will, which it was. And this new Bad Boys is a continuation of him building the momentum again. Also, was his career really on decline when he was getting about $20M for Bad Boys and $40M for King Richard? A couple box office numbers aren’t the end all be all for actors.
Honestly we wanna see will win, because it’s definitely not happening at home.

Apparently people haven't forgiven Will Smith completely yet! He was on Hot Ones recently: His episode has an unusually high count of downvotes (almost 50%).
Based on some of the comments on Hot Ones I would venture to guess that many of their subscribers were never big Will Smith fans in the first place. So for them jumping on the “We hate Will Smith” band wagon is just the latest thing to do.
I think this project sounds really neat, what Will Smith did at the Oscars was really stupid but I think it’s about time for us to move on from it, his movies afterward did suffer from low box office for a while but I think as of now we can say that his debt has been payed and we can let bygones be bygones
