24 Hour Slot car Le mans 2017: Team Rockingham

- This year I seek to find out what it takes to enter a team and take part in this race - by following team Rockingham in their attempt to enter and win this gruelling 24 Hour slot event.
I could watch the interviews, the pit repairs, the racing, and everything about this 24 hour race in a 2 or 3 hour video at least. This is some interesting and fun stuff!
Thought I would only watch this for a few minutes but watched the whole thing. This is a good documentary by any standards keep up the good work

Okay. I am a T-Jet racer, but I found this on You Tube and thought I would take a look. I never lost interest. The cars are beautiful. The racing was tight, and the coverage was professional. I will be looking for more.

That team that got disqualified for fixing it's car during a track down time is crazy !
Give them a 5 or 10 lap penalty but don't take them from the race..... not cool 😕
Remember it's only based on real race, if you get bogged down in a huge rule book you lose part of the reason they love slot-car racing..... let em have some FUN !

I wish they did the commentary & coverage as full for each Year! Its really interesting and fascinating how much it takes to get these cars prepared as well the time required. The highly modified Scalex Ford GT E is an amazing car! Later years even the car numbers are illuminated like the real cars just amazing amount of detail and testing goes in to the Slot cars to last 24hrs racing.. The lights going out is a bit sudden! Could'nt they do it gradually?
Use to race slot cars in San Antonio Texas on the weekends when I was 10 years old was a hell of a lot of fun

How many Cars can you run on the same lane? I saw one track that had 20 cars on eight lanes. it's was fun to watch on youtube.

This may have been covered before and I’m new to slot cars with the exception of small Tyco sets from when you were a kid but how do those cars work independently from each other on the same lane?
They are all digital so each have their own control chip, a bit like radio controlled cars.

this slot car racing looks like it's a little bigger version of the old home toy slot car sets you used to buy, guess they don't have real slot cars anymore!
Sure they do. You can still buy full analogue if you wish. No need for digital chips. The digital side of it is what allows for things like lane changing and tire wear and fuel consumption. You run low on fuel, the car headlights start to flash so you pit in and pull up in the fuel area and the car's headlights start flashing faster. When fuel of fuel, the lights stop flashing and you're away. Different setups up allow for different penalties for not pitting in be it your car runs at half speed with your laps counted or your car runs at full speed still but your laps stop being counted until you hit the pits. All the information is stored on the digital chip in the car (a bit like DCC systems for model train sets) and can be linked to a PC/Laptop to feed live race data. It's all down to how much immersion you want. If you're just after that nostalgia of two cars whipping round an oval at home, buy and analogue set. They're actually a hell of a lot cheaper too. I wouldn't want to even imagine how much the whole Le Mans track setup in the video cost. It's the sort of thing that would give one heart palpitations.
I didn't quite understand what the rule change mentioned at 20 minutes was all about. Could someone clarify?
The lap timing system failed, so they had to make a decision (by voting) on whether to start the whole 24 hours again, or reduce the time to end the race at the original time of 3:00pm. They voted to end the race at 3:00pm. Apologies for the delay replying.

I believe there are models of these made by smaller brands. But the models used in the actual race are all hand made models.

In the real lemans, they wouldn't just park the cars on the track. They'd come into the pits and adjust tweak, fill full of fuel, give the driver a drink etc.

.....? looks like great fun though.
I'm sure thats possible but would add bulk. That said - the Scalextric Arc base unit does have simulated engine sounds!

Has there been a date mentioned for 2018 ?
The 24 hour race always takes place in April of each year. Although there are shorter races every 3 months...the next one I believe will be in September and I will aim to cover this.
The Digital Slot Car Association has it scheduled for 24 - 25 March

Hello Paul. Don't quote understand your comment. The track is 100% authentic except we removed the chicanes because it's fun to drive on a 20m straight. Safety isn't an issue in 1:32 scale. Yet..
