Been carrying this knife for about a month now. They're coming with Elmax steel now. This is an elegant EDC knife best suited for light duty on those days when you're not fending off charging water buffalo or prying open a bank vault to release the coat tail you just slammed the door on. It's great and it's for people with everyday lives!
Have had one of the Elmax-bladed ones for a while simply because I wanted a small, office-friendly knife with an Elmax blade. Absolutely love it! One thing I did learn was that Quiet Carry has finally ended the whole "made somewhere overseas" thing. He finally apparently realized that "made generically overseas" is probably not the greatest way to market your knife--so in very early 2020, the site was updated to say that all parts were made in Taiwan, apparently from multiple OEMs. So, who knows? We could be getting the same guys doing Cold Steel, the same guys doing Taichung Spyderco, the same guys doing Ontario Knife Company, or the same guys doing the Spyderco Cat and Chicago.
Received my CF IQ in Elmax today and was/am blown away! A truly delightful little gentleman's folder than can stand head and shoulders with the best. A great little knife that I would certainly consider, "A GEM"
I prefer larger knives but ordered one of these today. Looks like a really good gents carry. $182 in elmax. Of course your review helped convince me. Thanks Nick!
The clean design and easy carry of this knife are great. Not a huge fan of the blade shape, but it is an elegantly designed carry knife, just not usually in my pocket. It works better as a gentleman knife, IMO rather than an actual user.
I finally got around to ordering this knife - all black with carbon fiber and Elmax steel for $198. Looking forward to getting it in the next day or so.
Got the black Elmax version with the knurling pattern on the handle. I got it for less than $200.I think it's one of very few knives I own where the price is justifiable. I work in an office but I often need to check something out on the warehouse floor, and this knife works well in both environments. So does my Elementum, but it's not as pretty.
I really like the design, the size and all that - but VG-10 for 160$ on a knife that small? Nope. I could maybe see 100$as is or 120$ with a better steel like S35VN.
$100 would still be trash for VG-10 with sharp edges and mediocre ergonomics. $80 at most is what you should pay. Even then, you're paying for it's design aesthetic.
I picked one up in dlc/carbon fiber handle with a satin blade. I like it a lot due to the small size. Great for when dressing in a suit or in a pair of shorts because of the compact size.
Looks and sound like a pretty good deal, but also kinda showcases the issues with small manufactures, as you've noted - it's sold out. It's a rather dull looking knife being just grey, but I'm sure it's great for the size and EDC usage.
Agreed, with a better steel it would be an almost irresistible buy for the money... and that's coming from a guy that's in the market at the moment for a new Modern EDC Folder ... :)
I preordered the all black IQ back in January. It was supposed to ship in May and kept getting pushed and pushed and I JUST got the email that it has shipped on 8/31/18.
The Spyderco Delica 4 in Stainless Steel is around $100 and I think that's a bit over-priced... Quitecarry needs to quietly lower the price quickly... Would definitely buy one if it was around $120...
Nick, can you pick up the Tombow Airpress and do a review on it? It's absolutely amazing. Smooth fine lines. It might just be better than the Fisher space pen. A bit larger, but has a rubber grip and click mechanism.
Hey Nick, are you able to sharpen this quietcarry IQ in elmax on the kme system? If so are you using the low profile clamp or pen knife clamp and at what angle? Diamond stones I assume? Any advice would be appreciated
While I agree that the steel is not quite right for the price, I don’t think it is fair to say the same thing about VG-10 as you do for 8Cr13MoV. VG-10 is actually really nice for some use cases. In my experience it keeps it’s razor edge for a pretty decent amount of time.
I hope they cut you in a percent or two once they get slammed with new orders. Great review sir and good luck in Cali I know you won’t miss out Michigan winters ✌️
Have you reviewed the QC West? I can’t find it if you did, but I’ve just ordered one for use in the U.K. I liked this one, but we’re not allowed knives that lock #nannystate it’s not arrived yet, but hopefully it’ll get here eventually!
Vg10.. D2.. 440C.. these guys are probably using a Chinese manufacturer for these and you likely won’t see higher end blade steels unless they switch to an American vendor. Man they are probably making really good margins
Could anybody tell me what the pocket clip screw size is? Mine has snapped off in the 'bolt' that goes in the opposite side. Trying to find a titanium screw for more strength so it doesn't happen again. Thank you.
Nick, can you explain something? At 3.48 the knife fails to fall shut all the way. I've seen this happen with my knives but I can find nothing wrong with it. There's no obstruction and it's totally flawless when I close it manually. Is this a detent issue?
While the iQ is currently sold out, in case you still want to purchase one, both the black and grey models will be available in September --> quietcarry.com/collections/the-iq/products/the-iq-grey-coming-soon-preorder
I think you are taking the steel snob thing a bit far. Maybe you are right on the price, but maybe that’s the issue. Maybe the price just needs to come down a bit, and OEM will solve that.
wordingreenville still small knife with a big price. Much better options for way less. Seems like $180 is the new benchmark for upper end knives, no matter material.
Sorry everybody, when i scheduled this to go live, there were some for sale. I guess it was very few!
They seem to be keeping them in stock now and in Elmax. I just got one and I like it, but the detent is a little over the top.
Just picked one of these up with Elmax steel, and it is absolutely a gem!
I've been coming back and watching the quiet carry reviews because I am drooling over these knives pretty hard right now.
The iQ has been updated to have Elmax steel!
Great news! Really not into vg10 on such a great knife.
Hmm. I just ordered a black one with CPM 20CV

This knife is artwork plain and simple

Just a quick heads up. I ordered this knife on black friday sale and they have changed the steel to Elmax, which is much better than vg-10 I suppose.
I finally got around to ordering this knife - all black with carbon fiber and Elmax steel for $198. Looking forward to getting it in the next day or so.
Seems very classically "Scandinavian design" ; clean, cold and minimalistic. Why you do this to me... now i need one!
I have enjoyed owning this knife, just found out they now have a large version which i just ordered in m390. Looking forward to getting that one.
I love the looks of that!! Thanks for sharing this!!! 👍👍💥💥
I love it when he goes. i i i i.
Your voice makes me happy, mate (haha). I'm an aussie and your accent is in stark contrast to mine! Great review. Cheers.
Very simple and simply nice
Good one Nick, I too would have probably missed it and it has a lot of appeal. Thanks!

vg10 is actually godlike at narrow grind angles. just make sure you're gentle with it.
$100 would still be trash for VG-10 with sharp edges and mediocre ergonomics. $80 at most is what you should pay. Even then, you're paying for it's design aesthetic.
Its been updated to Elmax steel
like al-mar this is a knife i could love, despite the perhaps not up to date steel. we will see. this one has my number!
I picked one up in dlc/carbon fiber handle with a satin blade. I like it a lot due to the small size. Great for when dressing in a suit or in a pair of shorts because of the compact size.
i dont even carry a knife, but i want one of these. visual design 10/10

Ondal1 you can get all gray, black blade w/ satin blade, or all black.
2021 and this knife is still in Top 5 aesthetic design.
Agreed, with a better steel it would be an almost irresistible buy for the money... and that's coming from a guy that's in the market at the moment for a new Modern EDC Folder ... :)
Any thoughts on the Quiet Carry IQ in Elmax!? I think it sells for just under 200. Worth the price now that the steel is upgraded?
Can't wait to get my hands on one of these.
They recently upgraded to Elmax.
Bingo.
I preordered the all black IQ back in January. It was supposed to ship in May and kept getting pushed and pushed and I JUST got the email that it has shipped on 8/31/18.

New quietcarry knives!? Damn there goes my knife budget 😂
Anyone know where this knife is made? I checked the website and Kickstarter page and can’t find any mention of it.
Super surprised a comparison to the Kizer Feist didn't come up, great looking piece nonetheless, keep up the great work as usual Sir!
I"ve been wanting one forever but theyre' sold out.
They should lower the cost to 100 dollars and make a 160 dollar version in m390 or 20cv.
Damn right. Who do they think they are - Spyderco?
tyyreaun haha
I was thinking steel will
The new one is 180 with elmax . I scooped one up .seems like an ok deal considering whats out there these days.
Just ordered one of these beauties last night ..they now use elmax instead of vg-10...$204 for the titanium+CF that's with shipping and taxes.
10:55 there was so much, SO much potential for a pun here
The detent on mine was is a bit strong.
Nick, can you pick up the Tombow Airpress and do a review on it? It's absolutely amazing. Smooth fine lines. It might just be better than the Fisher space pen. A bit larger, but has a rubber grip and click mechanism.
Pretty nice, and it looks like it carries like a pack of chewing gum.
2019 Blade Show West- Best Folding Knife Winner!
You mentioned The West in your preamble, have you done a review? If so, I can’t find it, but I’d love to see it.
Hey Nick, are you able to sharpen this quietcarry IQ in elmax on the kme system? If so are you using the low profile clamp or pen knife clamp and at what angle? Diamond stones I assume? Any advice would be appreciated
I agree, I love the design but refuse to spend 160 on vg10
While I agree that the steel is not quite right for the price, I don’t think it is fair to say the same thing about VG-10 as you do for 8Cr13MoV. VG-10 is actually really nice for some use cases. In my experience it keeps it’s razor edge for a pretty decent amount of time.
Wpieter 24 vg 10 is good to go
John J. Baranski I agree, and that’s what he usually says. Not sure why it switched to the “barely adequate or barely inadequate” thing.
I hope they cut you in a percent or two once they get slammed with new orders. Great review sir and good luck in Cali
I know you won’t miss out Michigan winters
✌️
Wow. An all metal framelock flipper. Those are rare.
Have you reviewed the QC West? I can’t find it if you did, but I’ve just ordered one for use in the U.K. I liked this one, but we’re not allowed knives that lock #nannystate it’s not arrived yet, but hopefully it’ll get here eventually!
Okay, but what are your thoughts now (12/20/18) that the knife is priced at $198.00?
Two of them are $198...they have carbon fiber on the scales...the regular titanium ones are $182
Have you taken a look at the grovemade minimalist? Too bad it's 440c for $200 in titanium.
That looks and sounds quite nice.
Vg10.. D2.. 440C.. these guys are probably using a Chinese manufacturer for these and you likely won’t see higher end blade steels unless they switch to an American vendor. Man they are probably making really good margins
Hazin hope their margins are in the 20s
They’re using Elmax now, if anyone’s interested.(thanks Nick)
I have one and I like it very much
Could anybody tell me what the pocket clip screw size is? Mine has snapped off in the 'bolt' that goes in the opposite side. Trying to find a titanium screw for more strength so it doesn't happen again. Thank you.
T6 torx .. don't know length
Can you switch the pocketclip to the other side or is it righty only?
Where are quietcarry knives made?
Please review the “Honey Badger”! BUDGET EDC 2018 contender
didint even know it came in vg10....mine came in elmax
Obviously a gem because designed in USA
So saying you would be good with $180 for M390 I'm guessing you like it at $180 with Elmax?
Nick, can you explain something? At 3.48 the knife fails to fall shut all the way. I've seen this happen with my knives but I can find nothing wrong with it. There's no obstruction and it's totally flawless when I close it manually. Is this a detent issue?
Johny Ricco it didn't fail to fall shut all the way, it fell shut and bounced back out a bit.
i thought this was a portable charger because of those dots
Just ordered the iQ in CPM20CV and they still have some left ;)
This should have been a tanto
Too bad it's sold out... The Strand is available though and cheaper and looks "almost" as cool.
While the iQ is currently sold out, in case you still want to purchase one, both the black and grey models will be available in September --> quietcarry.com/collections/the-iq/products/the-iq-grey-coming-soon-preorder
Amazing review
Looks clean.
How is the whole 916 thing treating you nick? Can we get an E.T.A. on the first california based videos?
How this review stand to the new 2021 version ?
I'd say with the new Elmax steel it's technically far better.
They have another knife with cpm-20cv for $99 so I was surprised when I found out this knife was $199 with vg10
I think because that 20cv knife is mostly g10...whereas this is mostly titanium...and the blade is now elmax
Looks like the apple knife.
Wait!! M390 and $180? Do you mean like the Benchmade mini grip g10?
Oh wait, you said that was too expensive.
Review the WESN knife Nick please
Is the clip reversible?
So Nick why do you have a "standard" US lighter?
Ken Kelley - because rubbing sticks together sucks
It just seems like a "standard" US lighter seems a little pedestrian for The Nick
Ken Kelley - ha so true
Where do you buy
It's too expensive for VG-10. I like VG-10 better that you do, but not at $160
welcome to the nick shabazz channel, where the next frame lock flipper is never more than a week away.
Over priced!, good review.
Unfortunately u.k cops ain’t a fan of flippers regardless of size!
I need one
Looks like a mini sebenza.
The Waypoint looks almost identical to it
The aesthetics reminds me of The James Brand knives.
Chamfer fairy! We need you!
Anyone interested in the Spyderco Drunken??
and every single thing on the website is sold out.....
I think you are taking the steel snob thing a bit far. Maybe you are right on the price, but maybe that’s the issue. Maybe the price just needs to come down a bit, and OEM will solve that.
It’s not Bazzam!
It’s Bazinga!!!
Lol!
They are sold out unfortunately. I hope they make the next batch in S35VN
Legal in most places... Not Chicago :(
I know how VG-10 feels.
They are making it in Elmax now for $182...thoughts?
wordingreenville still small knife with a big price. Much better options for way less. Seems like $180 is the new benchmark for upper end knives, no matter material.
"I, I, I, YEAAAAH"
Quietcarry can’t figure out a left handed clip mounting option? Bit optimistic calling it the IQ.
That looks like a standard "CHINESE" lighter
Great, another knife that is sold out.
So it would be a SMART choice to buy this? 😂😂😂😂
You're an intersting little piece.
Standard US lighter.
