    I've watched several antenna tracker videos in the past, and this is by far the most amusing video I've seen of one demo'd. I bet little kids would go crazy following the loitering airplane around in the sky by watching which way the tracker is pointing. Tent stakes in the ground tho to keep them from knocking it over! I got an analog 5ghz monitor panel just waiting around to be mounted on one of my tripods like that.
    These LR Wings look like they almost beg to have an Insta360 OneR on them with the 360 recorded field of view all around, and you could remove all aileron wobble out in post on the computer at home. Would create a lot of drag jutting out the front on a stick or mounted on top or something... Expensive camera tho - more cost to the project!

      I didn't know you were local to me Caroline, it a good spot for long range out to the estuary as you are much higher than sea level. Just don't fly over the house at the bottom of the track, I did once and the lady came and threatened that her husband would come and sort me out for spying on her! Thanks for sharing your test. I've always flirted with the idea of a tracker but never taken the plunge. When you eventually push for max range, be sure to change your vTx antenna on the Dart to one that is linear instead of circular. You're losing some gain due to the polarity mismatch (linear on the patch and circular on your vTx). Looking forward to your next tests!

    • @bluefish3607
      @bluefish3607  3 роки тому +1

      I thought that myself Jacob but when I queried it with the manufacturer they said an omni on the plane was fine.
      I am planning a 20k trip out to sea next and will test the linear and the omni and see what results I get.

    • @brubakerjm
      @brubakerjm 3 роки тому +2

      @@bluefish3607 An "omni" can be either linear or circular polarization. "Omni" just means it radiates all directions at once (except for the nulls, of course); it does not indicate the polarization of the wave. The antenna on your Dart (in this video at least) is a circularly polarized, omnidirectional antenna. The MFD patch is a directional (as opposed to omni) antenna, meaning it has its highest gain in a narrower angle. But again, that doesn't refer to the antenna's polarization. If indeed it is a linear polarization (I Googled around and couldn't find one way or the other), then you will lose 3dB of gain right out of the gate with the circular on your plane and the linear on the ground, regardless of which is omni or directional.
      It's possible the MFD patch *is* circularly polarized, then there would be no cross-polarization loss. If it is, in fact, linear, I'd suggest popping a 5.8Ghz dipole antenna (which would be linear) on the vTx (like this one: shop.prodrone.pl/en_US/p/ProMicroVee_HD_Lite-MMCX-/190). This would be only for extreme range. 20Km might be possible, depending on conditions, even with a -3dB cross-polarization loss. I regularly fly with linear on the plane and circular on the ground on my 1.3 system.
      Keep up the good work!

    • @bluefish3607
      @bluefish3607  3 роки тому +1

      @@brubakerjm I have learned something new today thank you for that explanation.
      I have confirmed with MFD that their patch antenna is linear polarized www.myflydream.com/products/c-0/364.html
      The link you sent did not work and i was not sure if the others on the site were linear as it did not specify.
      I do have the original antennas from my FR632 diversity receiver which I think are linear and I could try one of those on the plane www.flyingtech.co.uk/fpv-camera-gimbals/boscam-fr632-diversity-40ch-raceband-58ghz-fpv-receiver
      I have also ordered an Emax linear antenna but its out of stock www.unmannedtechshop.co.uk/product/emax-nano-5-8ghz-fpv-antenna/
      What confuses me a little now is the fact that that antenna above has the choice of RHCP or LHCP but I assume that this does not apply to Linear antennas?

    • @brubakerjm
      @brubakerjm 3 роки тому +1

      @@bluefish3607 Yes, those straight, black antennas from your FR632 would be good options for linear. Emax definitely lists the specs of their Nano as circularly polarized, so Unmannedtechshop.co.uk testing it and verifying it as linear is very interesting. I'd be inclined to think Emax knows what they are talking about, but who knows!

    • @grim-upnorth
      @grim-upnorth 3 роки тому +2

      yup, it's a bit like a chicken and egg scenario lol. you need a good video signal to carry the GPS data in order to track the model. But then you need the ability to track the model, in order to get a good video signal in order to carry the GPS data lol.
      I agree, RC telemetry is a more stable way of receiving the GPS data as we're normally always flying well within the capabilities of our RC links, even when our video starts to fail.

  • @EnglishTurbines

    That's a fancy looking Patch on your VRX...looks like it has a fairly low gain, wide beam too...Why don't you use your Crossfire? telemetry to give exact (high resolution) GPS coords for tracking? I assume it's using video signal strength to track at the moment?...Great setup though, if rather complex, well done..The static at range is typical 5.8g though. You won't see that on 1.2g...
    Subbed BTW....good effort.

Set home point when theres enough sattelite shown in the mini crossbow screen then send the plane up. Wont track for some reason. It kinda seems like it does kinda track sometimes but wont stay tracked and then starts shaking. Any ideas on what i might b doing wrong? @@Chris-vc1dh It means that if you do not have it enabled there will be no stabilisation at zero throttle and you will have less authority than manual mode. All that said I have never flown without it permanently enabled in the configuration tab. Best thing to do to answer your question would be for you to fly with it on and off and determine how it feels and suits your particular setup and flying style.

      Neither I used the Telefly Tiny module in the plane and coordinates are passed to the tracker via the VTX signal. Never managed to get bluetooth or wifi working so have shelved it for now and I have been focusing on proximity flying with dji rather than long range.

      @@Chris-vc1dh Hi Chris it might be because you have a value of 10% in the critical battery (remaining %) in the battery settings on the configuration tab. I believe whatever you set this to is removed from the remaining % in the OSD. You could set this to zero % and see if it solves your query. Thats all I can think of really.

      Hi Mike you will need the following if you want to use the Telefly Tiny modules to send telemetry via your VTX signal:
      myflydream.com/products/c-0/349.html
      myflydream.com/products/c-0/348.html
      myflydream.com/products/c-0/359.html
      myflydream.com/products/c-0/362.html
      If you want to use Crossfire or Mavlink telemetry you won't need the telefly tiny modules but will need a full sized Crossfire with Bluetooth to get the telemetry data from your radio to the tracker or if you have crossfire micro like I have you can use 2 x HC05 bluetooth modules one connected to your radio serial port and one connected to your tracker.
      If you are interested in trying one of these then its a bit of a learning curve but you can get tons of help and advice depending on what radio and setup you have etc here: facebook.com/groups/2551897241564695
      I hope that helps

      @@bluefish3607 I use the TBS crossfire full TX with bluetooth but my concern with using Crossfire bluetooth to this tracker is that TBS crossfire bluetooth is horrible at data sharing to external devices. Wifi which it also has I still haven't seen really anymore development from TBS at getting the wifi to send RELIABLE telemetry to external devices.
