Development on the open-source engine remake for Morrowind is still trucking along with version 0.47.0 nearing release. Among many other improvements, the most exciting feature of 0.47 is the addition of distant LOD (distant land/statics). This video was recorded on the 0.47 development build and features lighting and water shaders by Vtastek, available for download on the OpenMW discord.
The music is "A Land Burdened with History" from Elder Scrolls Online OST.

Let's all just take a moment to thank the hard work they put into this
I absolutely love your video. Awesome work!
I installed your entire mod list (besides a few convenience mods that were not related to graphics) and the textures and meshes are really nice. It looks like a whole new game.
can you make a list? cause for example "intelligent texture" doesn't work
Best Elder Scrolls game still to this day Love It.
That's not true
Why Bethesda won't just hire the OpenMW team and some modders to remaster Morrowind and sell if for $10-15 is so beyond me.
People would rather have Skywind. Personally I prefer Morrowind's RPG mechanics.
@@MizterMoonshine I am ridiculously excited about Skywind. And I'm right with you on the mechanics. Unfortunately I use OpenMW on mobile cause I don't have a computer that will run anything too intensive, so I'm worried when Skywind finally releases that I won't really have access to it. I figure this idea at least would have the greatest chance of Morrowind in a modern Bethesda engine, with mechanics and an atmosphere that are faithful to the original, and is easily accessible to people like me. And with a little Bethesda money, voice work wouldn't be as large of a struggle (but I will say I'm stoked about the fan and volunteer voicing in Skywind).
@@nehoymenoy3845 don't you worry about release date of Skywind. I am officially waiting for it since 2012. I just hope my grandchildren will be able to play it someday.
@@sergeyyagelskiy8141 grandchildren? I was there some time ago, moved on to... it will release once we have successfully tackled co2 emissions
I'd pay $60 or $70 for that shit on Consoles. And yes, it blows my mind that they don't. Talk about leaving 💸 on the table.
Morrowind's biomes are so perfect, and all the mods bring them to life that much more.
I beg of thee. Make a mod pack.
+1 for this would be nicehope they run with the vr port
I can't due to permissions. You will have to follow the mod list in the description.
I was just looking this up. Kinda makes me sad haha
@@MizterMoonshine yeah, thanks for that by the way....but this is just a list....that is indeed the order to install the mods? I mean, I'm new on this....what steps should I follow to make this happen?
@@miguelrossier I can make a quick video guide that covers the basics, but it won't be for a few weeks
crazy. Thank you to everyone for the hard work, can't wait for 0.47
And then, as usual, it turns out that half of the mods can not be downloaded, they are removed from all file sharing sites, etc.
I found absolutely everything here I didn't already have, available on the Nexus. The issue, here and there, is that a few mods are found on various authors' misc. mods pages.
A little late to the party, but this looks damn impressive! The modding team has definitely put a lot of love & time into this & it shows.
This is an elegant, magical video and a brilliant modlist. The countless hours of mixing, matching and coordinating to achieve a coherent look is profoundly evident and your video oozes a sincere love for the aesthetics of the game. Thanks!
Thank you for the comment.
Incredible job in modding the game to this standard, excellent work.
This is a fantastic video. Great work!
i remeber seeing morrowinds water was a revolution, that days.should be over 20 years now.
all it need is Volumetric cloud and fog and this gonna look so good
its done
Looks incredible!
Now my texas instruments ti-84 will never be able to run morrowind 😩
Yes it can you just have to upgrade the software of the ti-84 and not that hard all you need is the time and patience to do it my friend i believe in you. 😉
This is stunning mate
This is breathtaking 😍
This looks so nice!
You already shared your modlist, can you please also share all the settings and the other required steps in order to achieve the same visuals? Thanks
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Breathtaking.
This is still the best looking Morrowind I have seen so far. Just so you know vtastek shaders only work with OpenMW 0.47. OpenMW is currently between 0.48 and 0.49.
This looks really good. :-)
stunning, absolutely stunning.
But how them in NPCs look though?
so beautiful i could cry
I'm in love.
Over 300 mods but those damn cliff racers still exist.
Amazing :O
I wonder if any of the original morrowind devs are following this project and feeling proud that morrowind still lives on.
Gorgeous
This is....masterpiece
Do these mods affect tamriel rebuilt? I just got my first "good pc" in my life, and this is my favourite game of all time. But I only play it with Tamriel Rebuilt, so I'd only bother modding it graphically if those regions would be on par
is there any easy way to download all the mods, like is there a pack or something? will take hours just to download them all :(
great video btw
2:07 - wait a sec, are those mf penguins? 10/10
An old favorite mod of mine
Could you please make a quick list for all the flora mods that are visible on the video ? Or just name the top 5 that are in the video ( by top i mean the ones that make the bigegst difference in terms of graphics)
Man OpenMW with these Graphics. with VR Mod and TR Rebuilt is going to be excellent.
I had planned on playing ESO to experience Vvardenfell again, now that my childhood imagination has abandoned me.
Now I don't have to. Amazing!
Make sure to grab Tamriel Rebuilt, the work they've done is astounding.
@@MizterMoonshine alright, I'll be sure to do that! For getting everything up and running that you have, do you recommend just going to nexus and getting all the mods through Vortex? Aside from OpenMW and the shader from the discord of course.
@@ethanpenn5 Don't use Vortex, it tries to simplify things but just ends up making them more complicated. Use Mod Organizer 2. It has a script for OpenMW here:
www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/45642
@@MizterMoonshine Alright, I'll give that a shot. I always had a hard time modding the ES games aside from a million manual installs of zip files, though Vortex worked alright for Skyrim VR. Hoping to avoid conflicts and have them work on my first go!
@@ethanpenn5 I just installed tamriel rebuilt today. It's super super simple. You won't regret it. It's amazing
How did you manage to make distant object to appear on such distances? I have OpenMW, it draws the distant terrain quite well, but the objects are not rendering very far, and I could not change that.
It is a feature of the 0.47 development build, not available in 0.46 public release.
Hi, I've been going through your mod list, but Mika/Ardalin removed all her mods from Nexus. I managed to find a download for the one for Balmora and Fabulous Suran so far, but not the others. Could you perhaps upload your copy of the mods on Google Drive or something, and share a link? Would be so much appreciated, because it kinda bumms out to spent hours finding and downloading 300 mods from your list, but not these major city overhauls.
is there an easier way to install all these mods at once with like a mod loader and a config file? saw this as well as the vr mod and the multiplayer mod so i might just get the game even though its not as booming as it used to be cause it looks dope with everything people have done
Pretty nice looking textures and effects, but if only the animations and polygon count could be fixed.
It can the OpenMW engine supports relatively modern model formats, amounts of geometry and effects the problem is, the huge amount of work on remaking all the original models and animating them to AAA standards, you need a mocap team for that and professional animators. We also need to have in mind that people are working for free on this.
@@Argoon1981 Exactly. At this point might as well undergo a remake.
@@zgillet A remake would mean losing twenty years of content improving mods for a graphically better blank slate.
@@hurrdurrmurrgurr eh, worth it
that one shot with the generic pine trees and the mushrooms together.
I have words for the person who thought that was a good idea.
To be honest I put minimal effort into this video because I thought it was only going to get a few thousand views. 100k later here we are.
Is it possible to just upload the mods without the morrowind, tribunal bloodmoon items? So essentially all I need to do is copy the mod into the data files and overwrite stuff ?
Im drooling
Jaw dropping
Impressive
I just added the game to my steam wishlist.
Will these work in OpenMW VR version? I mean, everything that works in OpenMW should work in the VR version right?
Wow just took a look at this after your new Daggerfall mod video, you are really good at this! Also makes me want to play MW again!
I had such an amazing modlist on my old PC, do you think i can just copy morrowind folder to my new pc ? ;;;
eyegasm
how do you get your shaders to look like that?
Great content man. Why don't you have more subscribers? I found the Fps to be pretty bad with distant land enabled. Which made me switch back to the original Morrowind any tips would be helpful.
You were probably on the old version of OpenMW. 0.47 has distant land that runs pretty well.
@@MizterMoonshine Thanks dude! I'll try it out
@@coldb6409 Yes, you click the download button beside the blue "clone" button and choose one of the builds.
gitlab.com/OpenMW/openmw/-/jobs/artifacts/master/download?job=Windows_MSBuild_Engine_Release
This is the one I used. There's a zip inside it that contains a portable version of 0.47, you just extract it, no installer.
How many how the 300 mods were actually for graphic improvement?
Wow. Ok. Wow.
Where did you get the shaders that work with openmw?
Looks cool. How do I download this and play?
omg....im making this...i don't care how long it takes!
There are too many mods in the pastebin to download one by one. Anyone have any ideas if there is any repackaging of all these mod libraries
I did it! I downloaded all (well, most) of the mods on that list. Now to install...
BTW, I noticed some of those seem to require MGE XE which is not compatible with OMW. Does the new 0.47 use them somehow?
I assume you mean the PBR mod? I only used the normal maps from that mod as it normal maps everything in the game. The PBR materials don't work in OpenMW.
@@MizterMoonshine Yes! I actually just got to this part; now I'm downloading PBR Mod to see if I can figure it out from there.
@@MizterMoonshine I figured the various PBR mod parts from the modlist refer to the optional files from Normal Map PBR (Normal Map PBR - Land Part 2 = Land2PBR, etc.?), but I don't see one for Tamriel Rebuilt. I installed the main one in hopes it would have those as options, but no such luck.
@@ctrononon I think I just named it Tamriel Rebuilt, it's the download with the Necrom normal maps.
@@MizterMoonshine Ahh I see. Thanks for the replies!
With distant land on (doesn't matter what the viewing distance is) I get microstutter whenever I move. Any help/suggestions here? My fps is always a solid 60
Change your shadow resolution to 1024 if that doesn't do anything you can set shadow distance limit on and play around with the values, I set it to 4096 and get 100fps with high view distance. You can also drop the cell values or increase min object paging in the visuals tab
@@fallingintime Vsync off fixed it. Weird issue but all good now, thanks!
Oh The mod lists are great but i can't use Graphics extender with openMW anymore, so how can i get better graphics mod? Help me I'm lost.
I saw cliff racers; I'm out...
Game wouldn't be complete without them 😜
Beautiful! But can you tell us your pc specs? My brain can’t get around the idea that it’s possible to get any fps in openMW when you add a grass mod AND increase the view distance AND add some graphic overhauls on top. I just… how???
As the title states, this video is recorded on OpenMW 0.47 which is not released yet. It features a hugely increased and optimized view distance. There is also a development branch for animated grass which has not made it into 0.47 yet. it loads grass mods like MGE XE. It's an exciting time for OpenMW.
I'm running a 1080 Ti and Ryzen 7 2700X with 16GB RAM.
@@MizterMoonshine Thanks! Didn't try the latest niglty build yet, had no idea they started to implement those features! I don't have quiet the same pc as you but I'll mess around with some mods and see what I get. Thanks again!
I downloaded your (nearly) your whole modlist (- the mods that I didnt find on nexus). what is the correct loadorder? start top and proceed to bottom of your modlist? or other way round?
Other way around. MO2 reversed the list for some reason.
@@MizterMoonshine ah thanks for the info! hope i get everything to work.
@@MizterMoonshine Well I got it to work (thanks!) but exterior my FPS are very, very low. From looking at task managers resource monitor it seems like I reached a CPU bottleneck as one of my 12 cores is at 100% load while most others are at a pretty low load. GPU is also only at like 30%. Do you know if theres any way to circumvent that? How much FPS are you getting and what is you're setup?
@@jk-pe5vz Towns in Morrowind just run like crap. Morrowind is a very unoptimized game, there's only so much OpenMW can do to improve it. The biggest FPS hitters are shadows, the water shader, and distant land. I recommend setting shadow distance to 4096 in the launcher, setting the water shader reflections to "terrain", and distant land to 5.0x. With these settings I can keep usually 60 FPS in the wilderness but in towns it can still drop as low as 30 FPS.
@@MizterMoonshine I experimented a bit and graphics settings itself only did so much. I had to remove both better trees and the aesthesia groundcover mod. Both made my game run at below 10 FPS. Without I am at 40-60 FPS, depending on where I am.
Have another strange problem (sorry for asking that many questions :D): In some places I have problems that doors don't work correctly. E.g. when I have "mixed cantons of vivec" activated, there are doors where there is nothing behind. So if I for example enter "jobasa's rare books", the shop itself is empty besides the main door and I just fall down endlessly. Same with the mages guild in sadrith mora or the tavern there. If I remove e.g. "mixed cantons of vivec" then doors work correctly.
Holy shit.
So does Open MW 0.48 with zesterer's and wazzabear's shaders surpass this now or nahh
is there a fast way to auto downkload and sort all of the 390 Addons ?
_that's right, just make sure to avoid all the character models_ 😰
but in all seriousness, your morrowind looks beautiful!
Is with really the regulär Morrowind…or a Mod for Skyrim. This is insane 🤯
Wow! is there a wabbajack for this? and is it possible to run like this in VR? :)
Hey buddy can you upload the mod list in a txt file to mediafire please... I don't know why the pastebin link does not work... Please please please...
There are over 300 mods on that list, this is going to take some time...
Ooh a 21:9 video! I better subscribe. I wish more people's eyes were opened to the brilliance of ultrawide gaming, so it wasn't such a rarity on here.
Thanks. It's a great experience to play an old game like Morrowind in 21:9.
@@MizterMoonshine Yeah, the community really did do a great job getting so many older games to work. It's nice that more and more developers are natively supporting it these days though. Modders really shouldn't have to do it themselves anymore.
If I were Beth I would hire some of these guys for a mobile/console/pc remaster. I would buy it. Openmw does however work fantastic on my S10.
@BBQ Ham yes openmw has an Android port. You can even use mods. You do need a morrowind pc install to copy files from to set it up though.
300+ mods? Holy crap! How long does it take to complete the installs?
A couple of weeks.
@@MizterMoonshine Now that's dedication.
Hi, I see a number of mods on your list require mge xe, but you use open mw, how is that? are ‘mods’ made for mge xe compatible with openmw? Or what’s going, im a bit confused & new to modding Morrowind
Those mods are just normal maps made for MGE XE that also work in OpenMW
@@MizterMoonshine Thx for the clarification!!

someone was able to recreate the same assembly as in the video?
Wow, Morrowind that looks like Skyrim it's very beautiful 🥰
49 people never played the original game :O. This looks absolutely amazing! Great work! :)
I can't find "Robert's Bodies - MacKom Patch". I've installed both "MacKom's Humanoid Heads" and "Robert's Bodies" and there's a problem with the neck area. It's not smooth and you can tell the head is just plopped on top of the body.

Call me lazy but can you upload your data files folder please ? I do not have pc and i use android openmw i would love that my game look half of that videos it is so amazing the music is awsome. Thank you
I'm slowly going down this mod list. I have a few dozen installed so far. I couldn't find this though.
"-Suran - The Pearl of the Ascadian Isles - Aesthesia Patch"
The closest one I could find required another mod for it to work (something like "hlaalu concept art - balamora + white suran") and I couldn't find that anywhere.
It's an optional file here www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/48675?tab=files

@@VinnyHaw mw.modhistory.com/download-53-6337
@@MizterMoonshine I went to the first link you posted and downloaded "Aesthesia Groundcover patch" and it gave me the file "Grass AI.esp". But that esp requires "Hlaalu Balconies - Balmora and WhiteSuran.esm" to run. That's the problem I've been running into, can't find that .esm anywhere.
@@VinnyHaw Sorry, it seems I did not actually use that mod, it's the only one I had installed but not enabled. because of the issue you mention, it's not supposed to require that Hlaalu Balconies .esp. You can play without it , I went to Suran and didn't notice any grass issues.
is wabbajack compatibel with openmw? just asking for a friend...
This makes the old Morrowind look strikingly beautiful, and excellent even compared to how good the Skywind project was looking. That being Morrowind remade using Skyrim's updated engine and modding tools.
That's.....just not fair
That looks really cool. Now all that's missing is MWSE support :D
MWSE is completely incompatible as it relies on the original game engine, unfortunately.
OpenMW Lua scripting is being developed, it might be available this year. psi29a (project lead) has said they may be able to develop an abstraction that allows MWSE mods to work in OpenMW with some tweaking to the mod.
@@MizterMoonshine That sounds promising. Fingers crossed.
10+
Looks incredible ! If only the game would be stable with that many mods.
It is perfectly stable. OpenMW is 64 bit and does not have stability issues like the original engine.
@@MizterMoonshine really ? I have to check it out, cheers.
...still waiting for the day when you can "1-click install all" and boom! it looks the same as the video ;/ but it looks incredibly impressive!
Could i be able to play the openmw vr mod with this graphics or shaders?
The framerate would probably be too bad for VR.
How can I install this masterpiece! Please?
Are the cliff racers not buggy now?
What do you mean by buggy? Their pathfinding is much better.
@@MizterMoonshine oh im a new viewer here 😁 compared to vanilla morrowind i guess.. this looks generally great gj!
