  • Heralded by many as the best Call of Duty game ever, Black Ops 2 is reaching it's 10th Anniversary today and serves as a nostalgic trip down memory lane, while also a sad reminder of how far the gaming industry has fallen within the last decade. How well does Black Ops 2 hold up to today's standards? What were some of the bumps along the road during it's life cycle? And what do the numbers mean, Mason?!

    A little different from the usual Halo content, but I hope you all enjoy it anyways! And I should warn you that there are some flashing lights in this video thanks to how Treyarch edit their cutscenes.

    Black ops 2 in general is one of the best cods ever made and I don’t think they can never go back to make another cod like this again. Amazing campaign, fun as hell multiplayer and classic zombies with the best map of all time being mob of the dead. Definitely a game to go back and play with the boys

    Damn. I’d honestly forgot how much time I put into Black Ops 2. I played this CoD more than any other. So many matches on Nuketown, endlessly tweaking my loadouts, chasing all the little challenges and camos. Custom red dots.

    It's truly insane of how this game is now ten years old and still holding the test of time for being one of the best Call of Duty games and personally one of my favorite games as well. It shows the test of time by how we're still talking about it today and how for example COD Black Ops 4 or even Cod Cold War has been thrown aside. It shows the craftsmanship of the development of a game back then and how companies cared a bit more on if it's good. However, the microtransations and the scummy marketing was slowing seeping through in the end of Black ops 2 life and I'm glad it didn't go too far with some of it's questionable season pass "exclusives." Again I'm happy it didn't go too far so I can just remember this game with pure bliss.

    I absolutely agree with you, Modern warfare to BO2 / The 360 & PS3 Era was the best of gaming however, I do also wonder, is that because it was as you said, that period of time where you were old enough to have fun with it but not old enough to deal with real adult problems? was it really that amazing or was it the friends, the like-minded people that dominated the scene? will the youth of today (I'm 25, that makes me sick) have the same opinion of fortnight or Apex or Among us in 10 years' time?
    On a side note, the fact you only have under 10K subs is criminal, one of my favourite UA-camrs and such quality on the videos you make

Atleast back in those days, everyone had a mic, wither they chose to use it or not, for better or worse. Now the most response you'll get from most people in a game is them teabagging you after getting a kill.

    Think Menendez was referring to his virus having secondary functions that will activate in the near future when mentioning Odysseus. Unless Krama stop it, which game really hate. Seriously, she have more dead end then anyone else and need to have perfect right choice to keep her alive.
    In the greece story of a man who have everything stack against impossible, suffered many set back, but ultimately achieve victory in the end, which Menendez can see himself in.

    Excellent video, Laper Larden! The video section headings provided in the Call of Duty format is such a fantastic touch! The only Call of Duty titles I played were Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty: Black Ops. I was in my early teens when I played the games, and I believed the argument that the campaigns were mostly on the rails set pieces - although I got pretty invested in the U.S. Army Soldiers in Call of Duty 3. Your video and a few other videos have helped me see that there were some pretty good stories in the Golden Age of Call of Duty. I appreciate war stories that make you think beyond the main objective of reaching a certain location or beating an enemy force. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Zombies sounds pretty interesting. I played a lot of Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, and I loved playing on Kino Der Toten reaching the higher levels with upgraded weapons and Juggernaug. Whenever someone activated the song "115" things got real intense. The Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies experience made me desperately want Floodfight in Halo, and I'm glad we got it in Halo: The Master Chief Collection even if it doesn't have the same level of tension as the Call of Duty mode. It's a shame that the earlier Call of Duty games have been cast aside by Activision. I wonder why they haven't made a package game like Halo: The Master Chief Collection that provides the Call of Duty titles from the first Call of Duty to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Twelve Call of Duty games is certainly a lot to have for a single collection, so maybe two collections could be made - the first one stopping at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the second one stopping at Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. I agree that 2002 to 2012 was a Golden Age for video games. I believe the reason for the abundance of excellent titles is that developers still had a significant amount of creative freedom and focused direction while having more funds and technological resources. For most current developers they seem to be able to have only one advantage. Thank you for continuing to make amazing videos, and I hope you had a great birthday!

    • @LaperLarden

      Good to see you here, Reclaimer! I remember playing COD 3, years ago but the first game I owned was World at War, which also had an incredible campaign. My hope is that one day Activision realise a Call of Duty Collection similar to the MCC is just a licence to print money and it gives people who didn't get the chance to play them back in the day another opportunity. Might be worthy of making a video about that one day and tag some Activision executives 😂
      Birthday was a lot of fun! Thank you!

    I just played through this game for the first time about a month ago, in the middle of my CoD binge (never played any of these except World at War). It was alright. Loved Menendez and Harper, the gameplay and missions were alright.
    Personally my favorite CoD campaigns are World at War, MW2 (original), and Infinite Warfare

    • @LaperLarden
      @LaperLarden  Рік тому +3

  • @Jozombies115
    @Jozombies115 Рік тому +1

    You are so right about the community being at it's peak in bo2. I sometimes wonder if CoD can still be considered in it's prime because it hasn't faltered in sales, but the passion that went into the games definitely dwindled. No game after bo2 gave you the feeling that they were trying their hardest, it just seems like they've been trying to get away with as little as possible lately.
    Multiplayer? Ruined by SBMM and they won't remove it because they don't want to alienate noobs. Campaign? Still good but not as creative or ambitious as it used to be.
    Zombies? Quantity > quality in every regard now. There will never be another map like mob of the dead. They just don't care about cramming a map full of awesome shit any more, it's become about creating a massive grind. We'll see what Treyarch has up their sleeve in 2 years but the direction they've gone is awful.

    As much as I loved BO2, it's Zombies mode lost me. Even Mob and Origins fell flat, if not more so due to their focus on EEs and quests. My friends and I just wanted to sit down, PaP'd weapons in hand, and mow down as many zombies as we could before we bit the dust. Black Ops IIs zombies seemed at times actively hostile to that, so we always hopped back to WaW and BO1 when we wanted to play.

    • @LaperLarden
      @LaperLarden  Рік тому +1

      Look, that's fair. I still find Origins to be particularly tedious and sometimes I don't have the brain power to worry about setting up and completing objectives like Mob and Buried make you do. During BO2's life cycle I always used to hop back on BO1 because I thought the maps were better and you had more variety too.

    Looking at videos like these, as well as other UA-camrs talking about CoD like Act Man and HiddenXperia, really makes me wish Activision would make a MCC style game that’s for older Call of Duty titles. Like, imagine if they made “The Modern Warfare Collection” or “The Black Ops Collection”, making something like that would make classic CoD games easily accessible for modern ga(y)mers (haha, got ‘em) and would definitely catch my interest. But it just seems like Activision couldn’t give two shits about the older CoD games and that really sucks.
    And even though the two new MW games look fun as hell, especially the campaigns, I’ve heard they both have super strict SBMM that makes Halo Infinite’s look nearly nonexistent. So I’m a little hesitant on that regard.

    • @LaperLarden
      @LaperLarden  Рік тому +2

      I've been saying this for years! A Black Ops Collection would be incredible! And it baffles me that the first two Modern Warfare games can be remastered when Black Ops 1 at least, sold better than all of them. I'd throw money at Activision if they released a Black Ops Collection with remastered versions of World at War, BO1 and 2.
      I'd stay clear of it. The new Modern Warfare II is a mess. It's unfinished, the weapon balancing is terrible, a majority of the MP maps suck and the campaign was pretty underwhelming. Even with Season 1 around the corner, it's just adding stuff that should've been there on day one.
