I've always struggled to relate to American cars being from the UK, but man recently you guys are really pulling me in, the Z06, Z28 and GT 350R are all just pure porn and have all made me question my affinity to Porsche..

Awesome review...Matt...the guys on corvetteforum are raving about dsc controller improving their track lap times by as much as three seconds and they are also reporting improved street driving characteristics...
It's so easy to go fast in a Z06, it's so easy you sometimes don't realize how fast you're going until you see the speed, then you hit the brakes and hang in the belts, that's how good this car is! It's so much more versatile than any other high performance car. It's unreal on the track while being like your daily driven Malibu on the streets!
Did it make you feel like you were going faster? For the sake of humour, I hope you were commuting in like a Corolla or something, would be funny imagining that the engine noise was coming from your car lol
+Matt Wasilewicz haha, no I wasn't listening to it while driving. just wanted to see how it sounded with surround sound instead of my crappy phone speaker.
I agree! But, mechanically, Chevy could've made it better. For, example, the should've put in some more work into the C7 Z06's beautiful engine to ensure it wouldn't overheat. The also could've allow the Magnetic Ride Control to perform more functions, including what DSC does.
These new Z06 cars are absolutely nuts! The only thing I never liked about the Vette is that you can have a base model all the way up to the big daddy and they all look relatively the same. Where as a Viper for example is just one model. Hopefully that makes sense.
+Rumored Gaso the 370z had auto rev match in the manual cars. ny friend has a z which has it.. this was in fact before corvettes. also i dont think corvette was exclusively the first car to get magnetic ride control but rather part of a group of chevy vehicles to get the feature.
This is not meant to be a hate comment, the only way you could tell if this is working would be to drive a standard model back to back with the modified one.
+TheSmokingTire For sure, I can tell by the videos you put out that you butt dyno is on point. Lol. Your work is really good and keeps getting better, thank you for all that you are doing for the community.
It is like torque on demand. Corvettes are great at producing full torque at give or take 3000rpm. So anytime you are coming out of a corner it is doing amazing things under the hood.
You drive like a pro. Most of the professional like Randy Pobst have criticized this car for being a hand full. I guess the changes make a big difference.
I love my C7 Z51 Stingray! The ZO6 model is even better if you need 650 HP but believe me 465 aint bad either and the sound...oh that sweet exhaust note! Thanks Matt! Great job as usual...
They have this suspension for the viper also and they say it completely transforms the car for better on both track and the street. You should try to test these shocks on that car too.
ok. all the comments on commentating and all the wah,wah be damned. that is one bad-ass car. the color, the sound, everything. Merica by God. I have turned into a goosebump. fine, fine job Matt. I want, no, I NEED that car. just got divorced and going through a midlife crisis.
I really love that GM hasn't been adding the artificial sounding "pops and cracks" in the exhaust that seem so common with the newer sports cars from other companies. Those other cars just don't sound that great to me. Anyway great review, love the Z06.
Wow!! What an immense sound! For you to have that kind of reaction it must be fantastic! Great review Matt, Great car! thumbs up from me on this one! 👍
great job as always, Matt. This is one of those ideas that quite a few people have, but dont work on it because of all the physics that doing it for real would require. (myself included). I was going to start with a RC Quadcopter/drone controller... it's made for calculating G.
I'M sure an automatic is better for performance, but the manual just looks and feel better driving, I'm by far no expert driver however when I drive my manual, it an amazing feeling
love the new zo6 finally someone is fixing the heating issues that plague this car. hopefully Chevy does it themselfs! it doesn't matter that not many zo6 owners will take it to the track the ones that do bought a car built for the track and should work from the factory at one for more than a few laps before Temps start to creep to the point you need to pull off. depending on the length of the track that is. I still love the car this all being said.
ArtByCG because that is the last generation of top road car now this is the new vette. They have similar HP numbers. Would like to see the results it should be interesting.
DSC has a special alignment for the Z06 that makes it go from "dangerous" to faster than their Porsche cup cars. just 0.8* caster on the rear...and the factory has such wildly varying tolerances. I wonder if they did it to this car, or just the MR calibrations. fwiw 2017+ Corvettes get better MR calibrations. ask your dealer to flash your older cars too.
Random suggestion (to no one in particular) for the 7 speed 'missed gear' dilemma: Most of these exotics with the 7 speed manuals are capable of top speed without the seventh gear, and have them for street use and fuel economy, correct? And they have drive modes that change driving characteristics of the car. So, why not just give seventh gear a lockout that's open in the 'eco' or 'normal' drives setting, and closed in the 'sport' or 'race' setting? Many cars already use lockouts with manuals for other things. Just a thought.
Matt, do you know if DSC has any plans on making this controller available on other vehicles that use Magnetic Ride Control? I'm getting the 2017 Chevrolet SS next year, and would love to put this controller on that car.
Thanks for posting Matt. Although I prefer my one takes to begin with "let's see how she do" ! Also, love the sound of that v8... Makes my 370z feel very inadequate...
The Corvette has the best exhaust sound of any car to me. And it makes that delicious sound without any technological sound manipulating, its all supercharged v8. Ugh!!! I AM GOING TO BUY THAT CAR. ITS MY DREAM CAR!! Which sounds better Matt? ZR1 or Z06?
What happened to the old school Benz amg or Rx7 we saw during the 800whp 335i one take? Hope you post them up soon! Vettes and Porsches are kind of getting old now..
what they have basically done is taken an idea from the active suspension system developed by williams racing team in 1993 and added 2016 technology to it matt
Not far off. But active suspension systems date back far before 1993. They first started becoming popular on Nissans and a few other brands in the 80s (Citroen and Cadillac both experimented with some basic designs in the late 50s). The problem with these, and those systems developed in F1, was that they required individual hydraulic motors on each individual shock. It added extra unnecessary unsprung weight (while I don't have numbers, it wasn't just a little bit), and were extremely slow due to the available technology at the time. The Tractive coilovers we offer as an upgraded package can respond to commands in just 6ms, plus they respond to mid-stroke command. ~Jordan
I wouldn't mind making one! We are still dialing in the car. We had to re-engineer a few things before I go to the track with it and a couple odd parts have been very difficult to find

Most reviews I have watched put the Z06 in the likes of the 997 GT3, in the sense of, if you don't know how to drive a car properly and really handle it, it will kill you.
Hey Matt... the sound it's so brutal, to bad it's a little damp, great video, just a question... how much diference in money are between a zr1 and a c7 z06, because I think they have the same amount of horse power, and which do you prefer...???, thanks from Uruguay!!!
Please Matt do a regular one take of the Z06 in the canyons, the car deserves it. God I love the looks and the sound of it and Im into japanese sports cars! Its just the USA has been manufacturing superior sports cars for some years. I feel jealous, in the EU only rich idiots can afford good sports cars like this one. The prices and maintenance costs are sky high here :/
There is no weird country, just different laws and yes, you have to be rich to afford a good sports car like a porsche or M3 or things like that. And Im not even talking about Ferraris and supercars. Just good sports cars but they cost way more than 50k € and a lot to maintain and people earn much less than that in a year. So yes, you have to be rich to afford that kind of cars sadly.
Why don't GM just make it this way? Surely they've got the coders to do it? Not knocking DSC. Sounds like they've done a great job. Also, you say it's predictable which is good, but is the transition from slip to grip gradual or do you get a sharper transition, like the systems are managing, and then all of a sudden they're not.
Hey Matt, are you planning on coming to New Zealand in the near future. I currently have an E36 318IS getting a BMW V8 M62B35 put into it and would be more than happy for you to review it! :)
It is definitely cool. I suspect it is something that needs to be experienced to appreciate. Better yet would love to see an objective 3rd party track this against a stock z06 and see what kind of improvements are achieved. Thanks again for a great channel, Matt.
It's superior in just about every way for the Bilstein variant products that come factory with Porsche, Viper, GTR and some others. With the GM products and the magnetic fluid it isn't as clear cut, to be honest. Matt drove the Z06 with just the controller (not the shocks). The benefit this allows is for custom tuning and refining the damping curve. Here the benefits pertain to tuning strategy, and may be somewhat subjective. However, the factory is more or less a passive system (very very small adjustment ranges within each mode). This opens up the full dynamic range of the magnetic shocks to allow for a truly dynamic chassis. However, the magnetic shocks have some serious limitations. They are incredibly fast, and their dynamic range is vast. However, because they require the use of magnetic fluid, which is basically oil and small magnetic particles, they are prone to some reliability issues. Number 1, as you track them or drive them heavy the fluid heats up and alters its viscosity. As a result, it changes the damping curve and becomes less and less consistent at it soaks more heat. Secondly, the tiny magnetic particles in the fluid are abrasive. So we see this being an issue that will result in replacing shocks later down the line. For one hot lap, the factory shocks are incredible though; just not very practical in race applications (coming from an endurance racing background, this is our primary focus when considering performance).

I think the standard Michelin PSS

ok cool
thanks for the reply!
Why would you need this DSC sport module? Why cant the Corrvette just make adjuments to the suspension in real time FROM THE FACTORY?
Because it doesn't?
Are there any cars that can do what DSC module does from factor? Like BMW m4? Audi r8? etc?
+2583060 Sigh. weren't you listening... Some more premium cars do this.
+2583060 no, no factory cars offer this. Porsche's PASM gets halfway.
Good know. Thanks a lot, keep up the good work!

DSC doesn't control the traction or stability programs at all. They turn a passive suspension system into an active one
Isn't the Z06 650 hp? I know a minor detail but still. 640 is the CTS-V with the modified oil system I believe.
I wonder if DSC Sport plans on making a Sport Controller for the new Mustang GT-350 MagneRide Damping System?
They are currently working on among others like the last viper.
Hey Matt, are you planning on coming to New Zealand in the near future. I currently have an E36 318IS getting a BMW V8 M62B35 put into it and would be more than happy for you to review it! :)
Thanks I love New Zealand but next time I go, I'm just chilling not working!
Sounds like an awesome build. You making a video yourself?
I could be on another channel possibly, really depends if I can get some interest in it as I'll need a camera and some other gear.
This car is slick but I am a little skeptical about this tech being superior to the factory setup for magnetic ride
They should have increased power and add ceramic brakes
What it does is turn passive tech into active tech. That's cool stuff.
I wonder would it work with other GM products with magnetic ride. A new camaro for example.
Dr Nisu Unn they do offer a module for the Camaro.
