I agree with MT. The GS needs 500 plus HP. IF I where buying a corvette I would buy the GS and have cam and long tube headers installed with cold air intake and tube. That should be in the 500 plus range and be a awesome N/A corvette
General Motors really missed an opportunity. They could've stroked the original 6.2L to a 7.0L to make it a little more special than the entry-level Stingray and the over-the-top Z06. I can see an engine like that making 550-ish horsepower and lb.-ft. of torque. Hell, that could-have-been 7.0L could be used in the rumored Camaro Z/28.
This car should have been given a horsepower bump, it shouldn't have the same power as the base car, should have been somewhere between the base and the Z06 to at least make it a little more special.
Escape for Mankind is Keith Johnson if you look at the rear wheel hp of this car and a c6 z06 the numbers aren't far off so having a 7.0 wouldn't change really anything. Add some long tube headers and a tune to the Grand Sport and it out performs the 7.0
They did, there is a special edition Shadow Grand Sport this year. Only 200 or so were made, basically a fully loaded zo6 grand sport sporting a 1 off paint job and livery. You can expect that 1 to be $120k+ if any are even left.
@@JerseyMikePas a ZL1 owner. The car is not better in all aspects. The grandsport handle better..... Same lap time as the ZL1 and it has 200 less hp. the GS also has better braking....For its size the Camaro is unbeatable tho.
I read the review of the Corvette before watching the video and they said multiple times that the jump from 3rd to 4th gear was unnecessarily big, but I never would've imagine it being that big of a jump, especially for a more track focused car.
For real-world use, where you might do a few track days, then sunny Sundays, and road trips with wifey, there is no car better than this. Especially not for the money. I can build a dialed-in car with the Z07 package and just enough creature comforts without it being overloaded with junk, and it comes in around $80k. Folks, for the cars this thing straight up spanks around a racetrack, PLUS the flexibility and daily useability with the magnetic ride control, you can’t beat this. I have an SS sedan with the Tremec manual. It’s fun, and the MRC gives me a taste of Corvette life. But still... If my wife and I could get away with deleting the rear doors and seat, I would have a GS on order already. We use that back seat regularly though, so SS sedan it is for the foreseeable future. These Corvettes are amazing, and they get better and better with each generation. The want is strong.
For all the people who want the Grand Sport to have a motor with more power than the LT1 but less than the LT4 … Adding a 4'th engine would boost the cost of the GS. The GS uses the body of the Z06 and the motor of the Stingray. This does not increase its cost. If you were to add another motor, then you might as well just jump to the Z06 because it would boost the cost.
Great lap time, but Randy is spot on with the handling characteristics comments. Doesn't put down power well! Needs different rear shocks or geometry changes... imagine if it put power down well? Would be #1
he said a 550 hp grand sport would split the difference nicely between the 460 hp stingray and the 650 hp z06. but the car here is 460 hp but it's a grand sport. im confused
The only thing missing on the Grand Sport was a better powertrain like the one on the Z28 or the C6 Z06, which came with the 7.0 N.A. Engine and the 6 speed manual transmission or maybe the automatic transmission would have performed much better. The guys at M.T. were amazed with the handling and braking performance of the G.S. The only thing missing was 100 hp and a more accurate shifter.
When has Viper "shit on Vette's"???? ACR's crushes in lap-times...but every other comparison test or shoot outs have been close or bested by Vette's. Randy Post always bags on Vette's, but somehow finds a way to run top lap times hhhhhhm! I lost a lot of respect for MT back in 13' Head to Head ZR1 vs 13' Viper.
"When has Viper "shit on Vette's"????"...Pretty much Since the Viper came out in 1992. That GTS vs. Zr-1 was BS...They even said the GTs was a Pre-production model. Also MT only ever tests the Z06 with Z07 package....They never test a NON-Z07 Z06 against the GTS, etc. which are on street tires. If they did the GTS would easily Out run the Michlein Supersport tired Z06 in a straigt-line.
In 92'....Viper hit the streets with 100hp more than Vettes... Corvette slowly played catch years following...but the technology in areas such and handling braking narrowed the gap. Head to heads and comparison test won by Vette's were based on overall drive ability, and the huge difference in price. Vipers were fast but they didn't produce a big enough gap overall to win most competitions. ACR was on another level, and Corvette never offered and extreme option as such.(maybe it's coming soon) .The Z07 Z06 has that wicker bill spoiler that slows it down, and weighs 3,524 lbs..compared to Vipers GTS 3,415 lbs. I agree with Marcos Rodriguez about MT and the hate they show Corvette...especially Randy Pobst...that guy is scared to death of Corvettes. He never drives them in their top performance settings..go back and read all his test ..something is always wrong.. He admits he could get more out of it,but something holds him back.
I never said it was the same price....I just said it's been kicking it's ass. Compared to ferrari's and porsches the Viper has always been a steal. Also the Viper has always been hand-built and the Last few Viper have uses ALOT more exotic materials...which drive up price. Even when teh LS6 had 405hp and the Viper had 450hp...the Z06 didn't stand a chance. .You can't blame Dodge because Chevy Rarely brought enough to the fight. The same way Ford Mustang fans Cry about the 5.0L displacement vs. the 6.2L LT-1....Chevy didn't FORCE FORD to use that engine/design. I grew up like Corvettes...still have a poster...But I'm NOT a Delusional Fanboy and when they do a piss poor job...I call out EVERY brand/model. Sure the GT-R is fast off the line but sucks ass on a track....just like the Telsa. I love the Koenigseggs but they TOO are better in top end/highway racing than off the line or on a track. Randy LOVED the Zr-1...it's just that the C7 isn't as well designed.....it's not just him that points out that it's "Not Finished". Also the fact that it gained so much weight is unacceptable to me.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the top two will be the Camaro ZL1 1LE and the AMG GT R (in any order). Actual guess is that the Porsche GT3 will be in 3rd.
Hey, can you guys please do a Head to Head on the 2017 Chevy Corvette GrandSport vs 2017 Mercedes Benz C 63 S Coupe. I ask this because both fully spec are around the same price: $90,000.
Shahid Rifai the Viper is dead because the Z06 is a much better car in basically every category. Same power out of a 6.2 Liter V8 than that 8.4 Liter V10. Cheaper maintenance. Almost $20k cheaper for the Vette. The only thing the Viper had was exclusivity.
Kristopher Klassen yeah, that's great and all, but then you realize the viper is completely useless on the road. The corvette can do both the track and the road very well. That is why it actually sells.
Idc about American cars but these american cars are nuts a demon beats a Chiron and its only like 100k and its a dodge the same company that produces the dart and minivans but American car company are trying way to hard to be the best look at Hennessy and dodge and chevy they are making there cars to fast to quick soon it's going to be so fast that the government limits the 60 time to only 2.0 and all cars will catch up after that a Prius in 50 years will do 60 in 2.0 sec so its important to take it slow
That isn't entirely true. It never broke down, and even still managed a moderately decent lap time despite being in limp mode. The car it was later discovered had been running with the intercooler pump unplugged.
That Admiral Blue with the white stripe and red fender hashes is my all time favorite. Not really a fan of the black-out rims as I much prefer the shiny bright silver rims. The Stage 7 ducktail spoiler is adequate and I think it would have helped it to a better time with Stage 2s.

*_MotorTrend_** Host Nearly Killed In Audi R8 Crash Recounts Her Recovery* Aug 6, 2014 Last year _MotorTrend's_ video host Jessi Lang flew to Germany to test an extremely powerful tuned Abt Audi R8. She opened the car up on a local highway, and then her life nearly ended. A slow-moving car pulled into her lane while she and an Abt tuner riding in the passenger seat screamed down one of the country's well-surfaced arterial roads. Thanks to the car's big brakes, tough construction, and additional rollcage, Lang and her passenger survived. Her leg was so shattered bones broke through the skin and she spent a year bedridden, then wheelchair-bound, and then struggling through physical therapy. Lang describes the whole episode in this short film her crash, hospitalization, and physical therapy. It's rare to have a documentary account of a near-death car crash, from the lead-up and all the way through the recovery. That this all happened to a video host for one of UA-cam's most popular channels gives us the full account. It's a clearer sense of how brutally car crashes can tear up our bodies, and how difficult it is to return to some sense of normalcy. Lang was in what would have been one of the safest cars possible for that kind of crash, and she was equipped better than most for her recuperation, with an athlete's training in martial arts. That she had what was almost a best-case scenario makes the pain and work she went through all the more harrowing. jalopnik.com/motortrend-host-nearly-killed-in-autobahn-crash-recount-1617038676

$85K is wrong. That’s the 3LT package which adds $10k worth of leather to the interior. A nicely appointed GS 2LT has the same performance for $74K. And for that price, you won’t find anything faster around a track.

Just saying flooring it in a 455HP 455 lb ft car isn’t exactly boring 455 is still a boat load of power and that car is a brilliant machine
Wow, just over a half second slower than the GTR NISMO edition. For being over 100 hp less that's super impressive.
This car should have been given a horsepower bump, it shouldn't have the same power as the base car, should have been somewhere between the base and the Z06 to at least make it a little more special.
*It needs the 505 HP 7.0L*
Escape for Mankind is Keith Johnson if you look at the rear wheel hp of this car and a c6 z06 the numbers aren't far off so having a 7.0 wouldn't change really anything. Add some long tube headers and a tune to the Grand Sport and it out performs the 7.0
But if they updated the LS7 to LT spec it would be amazing
They did, there is a special edition Shadow Grand Sport this year. Only 200 or so were made, basically a fully loaded zo6 grand sport sporting a 1 off paint job and livery. You can expect that 1 to be $120k+ if any are even left.
venom5809 I’d throw a Procharger on it and call it a day or headers and a tune for immediate power increase
Best car of 2017
Not even close...the Zl-1 is much better...in all performance aspects, for the same or less $$$.
One of the most challenging track when i used to play NFS Shift
For all the people who want the Grand Sport to have a motor with more power than the LT1 but less than the LT4 … Adding a 4'th engine would boost the cost of the GS. The GS uses the body of the Z06 and the motor of the Stingray. This does not increase its cost. If you were to add another motor, then you might as well just jump to the Z06 because it would boost the cost.
Great lap time, but Randy is spot on with the handling characteristics comments. Doesn't put down power well! Needs different rear shocks or geometry changes... imagine if it put power down well? Would be #1
What happend to the camaro zl1 1le video?
he said a 550 hp grand sport would split the difference nicely between the 460 hp stingray and the 650 hp z06. but the car here is 460 hp but it's a grand sport. im confused
He's saying a 550 hp grand sport could have been better
Got my dream truck 2018 silverado high country with the 6.2🙂 now need a corvette grand sport or camero zl1🤔 love chevy
The car on the all time lightning lap list that is above it beats it by 1/100 of a second and costs $100,000 more, any questions?
The only thing missing on the Grand Sport was a better powertrain like the one on the Z28 or the C6 Z06, which came with the 7.0 N.A. Engine and the 6 speed manual transmission or maybe the automatic transmission would have performed much better. The guys at M.T. were amazed with the handling and braking performance of the G.S. The only thing missing was 100 hp and a more accurate shifter.
Nothing like a good strong Vette!!!! :)
Motor Trend are the biggest corvette HATERS ever!!!
Actually they Give Corvettes alot of LUV....choose it over every Viper even when the Viper shits on the Vettes.
I like more the review from Motorweek!
The 2017 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport Convertible (Also Know as Chevrolet Corvette GS) Is a convertible high-performance variant of the Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray with bodywork from the Corvette C7 Z06
May not be a zo6 but it's way more power than any non race car driver needs
Did you run the Corvette on slicks? Looks like it at 00:55
It's got the Z06 Spec Michelin cup ZP...They are much more aggressive than the Michelin cups on porsches/amg's.
Also they are the widest which makes them even look more aggressive. Here's a pic of a NEW Z06 tire.

What other cars are competing in the drivers car 2017? Besides the ones already shown.
So what if you put it in Track, Sport 1, or 2 mode? Ran at Ron Fellows in Track, Sport 1.
Asphalt 9 Legends:
The Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Appears As a High-End Class B Car
I'm going to go out on a limb and say the top two will be the Camaro ZL1 1LE and the AMG GT R (in any order). Actual guess is that the Porsche GT3 will be in 3rd.
There is no GT3, it's a 911 Turbo S
It will be the ZL1
Why at 0:35, you mention something about 550hp?
He was saying it WOULD be better if it had 550hp...so that it would split the regular 460hp stingray and the 650hp Z06 nicely.
Feeling Randy🙌
Such a dope sports car!
Hey, can you guys please do a Head to Head on the 2017 Chevy Corvette GrandSport vs 2017 Mercedes Benz C 63 S Coupe. I ask this because both fully spec are around the same price: $90,000.
or the Mercedes Benz C 63!
One of the nicest looking cars out there like if you agree with my opinion!
Only if the viper was still in production...
Kristopher Klassen Obviously, no one gives a shit about track records. Fact is, the Z06 is a much better car for the money.
Kristopher Klassen Too bad those track records couldnt keep it in production
It'd probably be a little faster with an 8 Speed Auto. Still, what a fucking car for under $100k
Why did you remove the Camaro video?
gaah23 Samething I was wondering.
Will they do another worlds greatest drag race? Will this car be in it if so?
So what are the optimal settings for a track day Z07 Grand Sport?
Engine on track, suspension on Sport plus?
depends on your ability level
Why not the z06
ertugrul demirhan already been done a couple of years ago, it broke down and placed last (DNF)
That isn't entirely true. It never broke down, and even still managed a moderately decent lap time despite being in limp mode.
The car it was later discovered had been running with the intercooler pump unplugged.
ertugrul demirhan it isn't a new car
Already was tested on prior year best driver car. It did not finished
one of the most interesting car in 2017
God damn, randys a beautiful driver
That Admiral Blue with the white stripe and red fender hashes is my all time favorite. Not really a fan of the black-out rims as I much prefer the shiny bright silver rims. The Stage 7 ducktail spoiler is adequate and I think it would have helped it to a better time with Stage 2s.
I will buy this car next year!
This one has the retractable hard top right?
All C7 Corvettes have a removable top. Even most C4's, C5's, and C6's had a removable targa as well.
Still the best bang for the buck. I'll take it if you don't want it.
Well done using the base engine clad GS in this shootout among +600hp exotics AND A CAMARO WITH THE NEW ZO6's motor... and review it giving poor marks for lack of power? Does that remind you of picking on somebody's little brother when the big brother wasn't invited? #carpolitics
At least you can see out of a Corvette
Great car.
*For $92,000 as tested it had better be*
it is.
*Lets see, Chevy's top performance car has after 1 year*
*Horrible RESALE Value*
*an INTERIOR that RATTLES*
*Removable Top RATTLES*
*Electric Parking Brake that STICKS*
*an INFOTAINMENT System that completely FAILED*
*is the ONLY Car to not Finish the MT BEST DRIVERS Car Competition*
*GM has a Class Action Lawsuit Filed against them in June 2017, by 30,000 customers that claim SERIOUS Cooling Problems with the C7 ZO6*
*Fan Boys that can't afford these cars are pushing them*
great car
EMKJ Violins are singing
Horsepower specs don’t match?
Jon Meissner I know right? I mean right after he says "a 550hp grandsport" the specs say 460hp.
He was trying to suggest that had the Grand Sport had 550hp it would seat well between the Z06 and the stingray instead it only comes with 460hp which isn't enough
jaymaster103 Oh you're right!
The ones on the spec page are correct.
JerseyMikeP you're 3 hours late.
Fantastic car. The other cars are great but I at LEAST would have placed the Grand Sport fourth in this year's comparo.
Where are the "Motortrend is paid by GM" whiners now?
*GM pays Motor Trend for Advertising, and that includes Embellishing Chevys*
I guess facts can't stop the troll roll of EfM.
A variation of the Camaro is number 1
Correction: "Chevytrend is paid by GM" hahahaha
Escape for Mankind is Keith Johnson yea man it's called rights to the emblems learn that idiots If not they'd have their vids taken down
Why no z06?
Excellent! But still 1.2 sec slower than the 2011 centennial C6 Z06! The old Z is a monster!
*_MotorTrend_** Host Nearly Killed In Audi R8 Crash Recounts Her Recovery*
Aug 6, 2014
Last year _MotorTrend's_ video host Jessi Lang flew to Germany to test an extremely powerful tuned Abt Audi R8.

Is everybody just going to ignore the hilarious credits!!!!!
Why are they announcing the standings already
Because their testing road was closed this time.
That hairpin use to kill me on grand turismo
Is Randy sandbagging it...don't hear to much tire squeal around corners like other cars tested...same with the Camaro I thought.
totally agree, i feel like he didnt run the $hit outta it
I'm thinking he was running on Michelin Super sports instead of the optional Michelin Cup 2s. Big difference.
it has cup 2s
Good sounds
& my suggestion for a bit more power is, the naturally aspirated, updated LS-7. PERFECT ☆☆427cid.
Z06: Too much power cant control it
Grandsport: Needs more power
Make up your damn mind Motortrend
Their opinion of the Grand Sport changed quite a bit since the Vette GS vs 911 C2 video.
Call me crazy but I think this is the perfect amount of horsepower. Even if I had the money for a zo7 I would get the grand sport. Is has usable power. This car should have placed top 3.
Tony Manjarres *Z06
Tony Manjarres - Z07 won't be in production for another 10 yrs
He was right when he said it sounds like the Z06 (I understand that the LT1 is very similar to the LT4). With my headphones in, it sounded like somehow they cut the supercharger whine out, since I've been so used to watching videos of the Z06 and ZL1 lately.
That's because there is no supercharger.
me no shit. I'm saying I expect the supercharger sound of the LT4
00:55 slick tires?
That's just how the Michelin cup ZP tires on the Z07 package are.
Sad day, no Vipers around to give these guys a hard time!!!
$85K is wrong. That’s the 3LT package which adds $10k worth of leather to the interior. A nicely appointed GS 2LT has the same performance for $74K. And for that price, you won’t find anything faster around a track.
GM should put the 7.0L back in the vette. Perfect spot would be in this grand sport
It was rhumored about a year ago that the Z/28 was going to get a 7L version of the LT-1 with VVT and about 565hp.
Should I trade my Cayman GTS for this car once it's depreciated more and equivalent price as the corvette? Looks like a monstrous car!
ZDY Don't know, both cars are great
JM M I'll just trade it for the corvette unless the porsche has lower depreciation (which it probably does)
Get the Z06
Why does Randy constantly drive over the rumble strips on corners? Isn't that reducing traction by about 50%?
Making the turns as wide as possible allows him to carry more speed. F1 driver's do the same thing.
I understand that.
Are there track rules that say how far off track you may drive before disqualification?
*That's how you Cut Corners. He's had plenty of practice so he knows how to drive for the quickest times*
Yeah in Some racign series/not all...like in F1 if all 4 wheels leave the track. Randy didn't do that.
Guys, simmer down. I was only asking questions.
