  • Some advice and tips for flying your drone from a ski. Taking some calculated risks to get those great shots.
Also, you can prevent the drone from powering up while catching by doing the following.... click on ADVANCED SETTINGS and turn off ENABLE VISION POSITIONING. Thanks shottayute2002 for the helpful tip.

    Hey, nice video!
Some tips: don't make your hand go reach the drone, that is why the drone fights against you and puts extra force on the motors to "avoid crashing" or runs away.
It has a ground sensor for landing that I don't think you can disable, but you can easily work with that.
When the drone is above your hand, make sure your handle is firm, still and opened/flat to simulate a landing zone.
The drone sensor will think it is a regular ground, and if you hold the sticks DOWN, it will auto land on your hand w/o stressing the motors. Grab it only when it comes close/lands on your hand by itself.
No need for you to reach the drone and stress it.
Second: if for some reason you are stressing the motors too much, or something has gone wrong, just turn your drone upside down and it will shut off the engines immediately. It is a nice safety feature to always remember.

Put the drone in sport mode and sensors go off automatically, just thought I would try to help

Always fly the drone backwards towards you when coming in to land and catch on boat.. the control's will be true at that time. Left is left right is right.. if you have drone facing you you could accidentally go the opposite way you want and injury or crash.

Great video as always. Quick tip. If you turn off the down ward facing sensors before landing, the motors will not power up like that when you are catching it.

I did that and it still consistently powers up hard.

WRESTLING & WAVERUNNER FISHING FAMILY I just gave it another try just to make sure and doesn’t power up like that for me. Under the same menu where you turn off the other sensors go to advance settings and turn off Enable Vision Positioning.

Nice tips. It looks like you went through about the same learning curve as I did when I started flying my Mavic Air off my ski. One thing that caught me out is the return to home function when on open water... my controller lost connection and wouldn't reconnect, the drone went into return to home mode but the ocean currents had drifted me 100m from where the home point was originally set, luckily I was able to motor over and catch it before it went into the drink :) close call!

The thought of drone signal loss out on the water is pretty frightful. Glad to hear you did not lose the drone. Appreciate the feedback and best to you.
