Fred, that Eggzumer guy is a Genius! How he handled the am distortion on the airband, and how he managed to implement usb, well it is beyond me, but I am so glad he did! This radio is a solution to so much problems... together with the TinySA the best invention since sliced bread!😂
Hi FRED JUST LITTLE OLD ME FROM LUTON ALAN, BEEN SORTING OUT MY OLD CBs, I HAVE A HARVARD A MIDLAND ALAN 45 MULTI. AND MY NEW SS9900 VERSION 4. Thats radio Alan. Half the time you are fixing things that go wrong. I ve had it myself. The radio is fine when there is no skip around and the next day you turn on and you have 20 db blasting in :-). You key the mic and no bloody audio :-(. You spend the rest of the afternoon tracking down a loose wire in the mic plug. You re-solder but by the time your done conditions have changed and the skips gone. Happy days.
@@paulmitchell4421 because it’s took me about three months to get up and going. And everything crashes all at once. Sorry mate it wasn’t meant to be a shouting competition. It’s just electronics ,
I bought one of these thinking that I might be able to learn something about them. All that I have managed to pick up so far is FM radio...which comes in nice and clear. Not what I meant it for though. The learning curve appears to be quite steep, and although I followed the EGZumer and CHIRP videos (thank you for them) and put the information in I still don't get a peep out of it. Watching a few other videos it seems all you can get are these hissy distorted voices just shouting numbers and letters to one another :) It has been interesting watching the videos, but I don't think that this is for me.
Like any radio a lot depends on your antenna. To hear CB skip you will need a decent sized antenna outside in the open. A £35 Silver rod base antenna on a pole will work well.
I used to have a uniden bearcat 35000 XLT ... I got the the uv-k5 a couple of days after getting the new george 2 and can't help thinking it would be great if the £300 radio had a basic spectrum analyzer like the £20 one does
Hi FredintheShed - Sorry I'm old and confused. I'm looking for a cheap option for a CB radio to monitor traffic in the UK. We were stuck in 8 hours of tail backs on the M1 last week, and would dearly like to avoid this happening again. Would one of these be ok for that kind of thing ? I think we would need to monitor channels 14 and 19. Many thanks Phillis
Hi. No not really. Your better off with a simple UK type Cb radio. Something like this. ua-cam.com/video/w2k1ml7NdxQ/v-deo.html Setting up and antenna choice. ua-cam.com/video/-4dbYAigpvw/v-deo.html
It's a shame it can't transmit LSB or USB. It transmits a horrible DSB signal. Don't put the radio on a spectrum analyser or you will put it in the bin.
@@OH2023-cj9if well I've seen people using them on AIR with the spectrum analyser ,so that's a new one, but if that's what going to happen, lucky you can get another one for 20 quid. 😱🤔👍
Sorry for asking but I bought a little quansheng receiver and having dementia I am really struggling to setup basics so asto hear airplane or marine or just anything- I would never be able to install files or the likes I just can’t operate I have took a picture of my display when it’s on - any help would be greatly appreciated thank you Fred from sam ( having wrote this I now can’t figure out how to add the picture I took
Hi Sam. Yes there is a little bit of learning with these radios. For aircraft you can simple type in 118.000 MHz and scan upwards till around 130 Mhz and then push to scan down again. You need to be in AM set in the DEMOD menu. The standard antenna will receive aircraft if they are overhead. You will prob have to scan a few times up or down to hear anything.
Hi Fred, how do I use headphones with this radio, I've bought a 2.5mm adapter for my headphones and put it into the 2.5mm jack, but it still doesn't work. Thanks
@@CB-RADIO-UK I've now bought a 2 Pin to 3.5mm adapter, should work! Only £1.53 off ali... I'll try to reply again when it comes. Apparently if you have headphones with a mic, you can transmit too. Read that in the comments on the item, so don't know for sure. Only just gotten into radio at the age of 42 years due to my little Quansheng. Bought an Abree tactical antenna, 108cm and have a Harvest RH660S antenna on the way, which should be a bit more practical than the Abree. Still not entirely sure what I'm doing yet, but learning day by day thanks to people like you!
Easier to do a freq scan. With AM FM LSB USB you have almost 600 channels not including delta channels. Better to sweep a;; the 11 meter band with a can than program that lot in the radio.
Hi Fred, I have a couple of questions. Is this only custom firmware, without any hardware modification (board inside)? Is it strong enough to transmit on CB, to use it in my car like a normal CB radio? Some people mention that it can work without hardware mod, but how transmitting power is very low. Hope you can help me figure this out. Thanks
Hi. Yes this is just a firmware mod no hardware. No you really cannot transmit on CB for many reasons it wont work. Think of it as a very cheap quite good wideband radio scanner.

Hi fred just got uvk5(8) currently as out of box firmware at moment computer has gone down can firmware be downloaded via tablets If so how
How do you get the USBH to show on the display?
You need to be running Egzumer and then its No13 in the menu (M button) called Demodu
Without hardware modification ?
Yes just flashed firmware.
Where is the SSB how to program, not that I can see in the description
