Nice Video ! That works out a 1/4 wave .Will work DX on the ground. For the ground radials I find a full wave of copper on the ground works great . for CB is 11 meters of wire cut into 4 or 8 . 8 is better. I use speaker wire for radials quite often. The QT 80 has better noise filters . The QT 60 has same receive section. I got one of them LED supply's it is a 20 amp one from Amazon. It works good but makes 3 or 4 S units of noise in my recieve . I just use a LiFePO4 battery . I normally do not have mains power when portable. Try exting that all the way and put it into a shortwave radio and see how it works . With speaker wire when cut 4 pieces then zip wire you got 8 radials . What I did on my home made 5/8 wave ground mount. I used a 10 meter DX Commander pole to hold up vertical wire , That speaker wire appx 25 FT and shortened to tune. I used a 4:1 UNUN at base to match. for a 1/2 wave would be a 49:1 UNUN. I talked world wide on 5/8 vertical ground mount on CB with my QT 60 and a battery ! Great fun from a park in NY ! . on 10 meter I got a park in London . POTA thing we do on ham radio. Get a beach umbrella and you can sit out in the rain unless it's real windy . What I do in the park. It also keeps sun out of my eyes and I can see radio . Cheers from NY !

Fred, if you would mount the antenna maybe a meter or two above the ground on a piece of PVC tubing and run two radials out and leave them elevated above the ground, it would be a much better DX antenna. Enjoy your videos.

Hi Fred good review of an interesting little portable antenna. I suppose the lack of supplied radial wires does make some sense at the price of the kit. My thinking is that the radial length would vary according to what band you want to use it on, assuming you are setting it up as a quarter wave (as advertised) on each band the matched radials ideally would each be a 1/4 wave too for a good SWR match. You would need a bundle of 4 wires for each band for 20M through to 6m so leaving the radial wires to the buyer makes some sense, at the end of the day only the buyer knows which bands they intend to work it on. Anyway as always I appreciate your time making the vids and the fact you are one of the few on UA-cam who doesn’t have a boring 10 min long sponsorship section. 😁

Aloha Fred, the trick to running that antenna and the JPC-12 on 10 and 11 meters is to not use that 2 foot long black pipe and connect that telescopic antenna directly to that bottom connector that you plug your coax into. Your SWR’s should drop to 1:2 to 1 or better.
I’m known here in Hawaii for DX’ing with my Xiegu G90 on one watt only. The G90 is such a very well made rig that I own two of them and operating at one watt only is an interesting challenge if you use a QRP rig. My average on one watt is 5,026 miles with signal reports between 5/7 to 5/9+ 40 on a homebrew antenna that I built to mimic the Chameleon telescopic vertical for under $80 USD verses $699 + shipping & tax.
As reference, I cut my ground radicals x 4 @ 15’ 6” and a gallon of water around the ground spike because our soil has a slight salt content.
Good luck and I love your videos! 🤙🏻👍🤙🏻😎

My brother's grand kids could wrap a Christmas present better than that antenna came to your residence and they're both under 10 years old.

It is a good priced antenna. However if this is how it's packed and shipped I won't be buying..no excuse for that poorly of a packing job!!!

The packaging is not that bad to be fair. Half the price mans half the packaging. It's cheap stuff packed by slave children from China after all not direct from Yaesu. Can't have your cake and eat it too.
