The egyptian skirmish units are resistant to heat attrition in campaign. That's their main advantage. You can march them across the dessert not have to worry about losing troops every turn.
The best place to use chariots is a giants those eastern kingdoms who use Eastern spear men in mass. My chariots got over 1,000 kills in one battle alone.
The difference between the Egyptian Archers and Nubian Archers is the reload speed, which is significantly better for the Nubian Archers. This statistic is hidden in the game files.
I remember reading a book called "Dividing the Spoils" by Robin Waterfield that talked about the Successors. Claiming some sort of "special relationship" to Alexander was very common among the Successors, and none of them were taken very seriously. It was just propaganda.
They are quite a lot better for sure, their lack of armored shock cav and cheap pikes makes the slightly less dangerous than other power factions I think, but they are a powerful faction in the right hands.
HeirofCarthage wait rome lacks good pikes and good melee cav praetorian cav and they lose to Thracian royal cavalry and Thracian royal cavalry beaet almost every cavalry unit in the game besides saka and royal cataphracts with trample or without out it other cataphracts lose to it without trample if you use trample they die
I thought sobek cultists had the scare ability too? or am I just remembering wrong? Also Camel Spearmen have trample so they aren't entirely useless :P
Hey Heir, love your MP and overview vids, just a question. The thing that separates the better skirmish units (like baeleric slingers vs. normal slingers) is stuff like their accuracy right? I know (or atleast I think) that accuracy is in the game, but is there some way to view accuracy? Like, how do I know which (for example: slingers) are better compared to others?
I think the Galatians swordsmen and royal guard served strictly as Mercenaries for Egypt, not sure why they arent included in the Galatia faction. I didnt even know Galatia was a barbarian type faction, i thought it was like a greek colony in asia minor :/ i need to read up on my history
HeirofCarthage Nubian bowmen have a slightly higher shot per minute, around 0.4 ish per minute higher so in around 2 and a half minute the nubian archer can shoot an extra shot compared to egyptian archers.
I think Rome 2 offers a more friendly mp environment for new players. While Shogun 2 was more refined for competitive play. New player on Shogun 2 will come head to head with insane retainers, generals, and veteran units.
+Roderic McKay the Ptolemy's didn't really rely that much on native troops in that time they mostly used them in the navy or as skirmishers. The reason for that is that they didn't want to give them too much power as the ptolemaoi are a foreign dynasty and always feared that the natives will rebel. they tried to get as many Macedonians to settle in Egypt but when the Galatians invaded Anatolia they started to hire them en-masse. To get as many of them as possible they settled many of them along the Nile as they were quite reliable and strong soldiers. The first use of native Egyptians as main infantry and Phalangitai was at the battle of raphia in 217 BCE they did very well in that battle and after they found out what power they actually had... well they rebelled. And that is why they used that many Galatians. They were reliable and good and loyal! If you are interested in historical context around that time you should try the europa barbarorum 2 mod for medieval 2. But it is far from finished and will get even better and better!
Zfast4y0u no I don't think he is Egyptian,Egypt had one of the most population in antiquity as they live in fertile lands... It makes other people wonder that why they use foreigners while there wre tons of Egyptians.
Zfast4y0u Write human population through time, Egypt has more than 1 million even BC. So it is very normal and does not require to be Egyptian to ask why instead of Egyptians, foreigners were hired.
Hello there Heir, I've started a campaign with the Selucied Emprie, now I've captured lots of cities and I've reached to the end of the imprium, now what I'd like to ask is, one of my generals has really high gravatis and I'm affraid that he will turn against me, how can I prevent him from doing that? thanks in advance.
Well appearntly someone has already raised against me, I'm not sure if its the general or not but the weird thing is he didnt had huge army like Heir had with his Chartage campaign, and yeah now I dont really know when people gonna raise against me, can you tell me how and when they gonna raise up against me in a civil war? and if their army gets bigger and bigger everytime they do more civil wars or some..
Hey Heir.. Do you (or anyone else in here) know if CA have fixed the formation attack??.. is it still useless, or have they fixed so that its usefull to keep it turned on??:)..
It provides morale bonus for nearby units within its area of influence. This can turn unit ready to crap its pants into roaring lion. It basically makes any unit near encourage ability unit far less likely to rout and it stays in battle longer causing it to more damage, you probably got the idea :)
Thanks. OK, pretty much what it says on the tin then. Must make quite a difference given how much Heir talks about it. I've done so little online play so far I've barely paid attention to these things...
Ethan Knightley I have never played online multiplayer. My knowledge comes from been suscribed to heir for over 4 years now and from thousands of hours I've poured to total war games (campaign). I like, wait, LOVE total wars so I like to know them as well as I possibly can.
I've found that since technology has been introduced, on campaign mode I tend to just build and build economy whilst letting inferior troops in numbers with good tactics win the day on the battlefield, so I guess I never really got to the elite units that even have the encourage ability that much!
Ethan Knightley Well, encourage ability is more important in multiplayer anyway :p . My gameplay is also focused heavily on tactics, but as soon as I can afford better troops I go for them, sort of reform my armies. To bad rome 2 is bit too easy once you have your rofl stomp army of experienced troops available. I currently use a mod called Divida et Impera, it makes battles much more realistic and historically accurate, forcing you to rely on tactics instead of stats. It removes activated abilities but leaves formation abilities (testudo, hoplite phalanx ect,). I would recommend it :)
Not sure how CA can justify Egypts shock cavs melee attack being i think 47 but they dont give any of the steppes shock cav that kinda love except saka noble lancers. Hell even Royal Scythian melee cav has only 49 melee attack.
yeah me too. One thing that really upsets me is that The only playable sarmatian tribe is the Roxolani which is fine but the prob is that they dont have cataphracts. HIstorically speaking cataphracts is what put the Sarmatians above the scythians and was the main reason they were able to conquer them.
why did CA have to tone down the actual historical power of companion cavalry? for some reason seleucid companions are stronger than the macedonian ones. CA should really turn them into what they really were: the best shock cavalry of their time.
Lol, anytime someone has rules for multiplayer, i dont play. Limiting the kinds or amount of troops i bring in is not gunna happen. You dont like elephants or chariots, learn how to defend against them. Dont tell me not to use them.

"Some people like to put it in an elephant."
-HeirofCarthage, 2014
hehe, good one
little out of context ;)
The egyptian skirmish units are resistant to heat attrition in campaign. That's their main advantage. You can march them across the dessert not have to worry about losing troops every turn.
What kind of dessert? Chocolate cake, cookies, or ice cream?
Just getting into a bunch of the Total war games, these videos are gold
Bought rome 2 3 weeks ago i m about done with rome... planning on playing egypt next this helps a lot thanks!
You need to do an updated version of these guys
"My Pontic royal cav is exhasuted" "My pontic royla cav can now face this pontic cav" wat.
The best place to use chariots is a giants those eastern kingdoms who use Eastern spear men in mass. My chariots got over 1,000 kills in one battle alone.
all hail the people lawn mowers
I LEARN SO MUCH FROM YOUR VIDEOS...THANK YOU FOR PRODUCING THEM
The difference between the Egyptian Archers and Nubian Archers is the reload speed, which is significantly better for the Nubian Archers. This statistic is hidden in the game files.
Thorax swords vs. lybian infantry, the ultimate meh mid tear sword infantry showdow.
Carthage is also pretty powerfull :/
I simply adore Carthaginian hoplites :D
They are the most aesthetically pleasing units, in my opinion. I wish the Egyptians had more units with unique designs for their shields.
Yea they look nice. Cool shields
You are one of my fave youtubers, keep it up!
Did you know: Ptolemy I (322-283 BC) was considered the half brother of Alexander III 'The Great' of Macedon
I remember reading a book called "Dividing the Spoils" by Robin Waterfield that talked about the Successors. Claiming some sort of "special relationship" to Alexander was very common among the Successors, and none of them were taken very seriously. It was just propaganda.
15:07 This is a fantastic opportunity to use hidden War Dogs, they can just rip his skirmishers apart here
If a faction has access to them then yes, hiding them for an opportune moment can indeed be decisive.
I would also consider Carthage a power faction, because they have such a diverse unit roster now
They are quite a lot better for sure, their lack of armored shock cav and cheap pikes makes the slightly less dangerous than other power factions I think, but they are a powerful faction in the right hands.
yes, but their lack of cheap pikes keeps their Pikes good quality.
Just found this, fantastic stuff man. Totally subscribed.
Favourite moment: Eats apple, greets.
i watch all your videos eating tacos :)
I enjoy eating tacos, a lot ;)
:3
Anyway, I think ranged units are a little overpowered for the era. I'd like a mod that lowers their ammo to like 30% of their normal amount.
Sobek cultists kind of remind me of druids in Rome 1.
Yea, they aren't quite as good I don't think, but intended for similar use
Dude, love your videos. Also, do you think yo could make a special video including odd units as war dogs, elephants, chariots etc?
You should do an Egypt campaign!
Also, flaming ammunition for elephants is removed in the patch 12 beta
"My Pontic Royal Cav..."
I thought you were playing as Egypt. :P
I think he loves them :P
Like we our naked fanatics ^^
totalmadnesman xD
You know me ;)
Of course I do ;) :D
totalmadnesman Um hum... You meant to say: "Of course WE do."
Heir is still love
Heir is still live
Gay
Back to POM you go.
Where the f*ck that came from?
I thought sobek cultists had the scare ability too? or am I just remembering wrong? Also Camel Spearmen have trample so they aren't entirely useless :P
Forgot they had trample. That is handy.
Long Live The Mighty Pharaoh.
nice vid Patchy. :)
Hey Heir, love your MP and overview vids, just a question.

I know (or atleast I think) that accuracy is in the game, but is there some way to view accuracy? Like, how do I know which (for example: slingers) are better compared to others?
Cant agree with the general choice tbh, a single charge from a unit of elephants can turn a defeat into a victory.
Heir you should really try the radious mod, it improves the unit rooster, especially for Carthage
In what way ? New units, or unit tweeks ?
I love playing as Egypt! I only find that they lack cheap shock cav
again i ask the question, why is the Galation units in Egypt not included in the actual Galatia faction?
Not sure. Maybe they are meant to represent a certain group of Galatians that served Egypt.
would've been cool if they were added...giving Galatia a boost in its unit rosters
I think the Galatians swordsmen and royal guard served strictly as Mercenaries for Egypt, not sure why they arent included in the Galatia faction. I didnt even know Galatia was a barbarian type faction, i thought it was like a greek colony in asia minor :/ i need to read up on my history
HEY HEIROFCARTHAGE!!!...................... Merry xmas.
kody Auckland fuck you
anyone notice the centurions are fixed? with horizontal crests. just noticed it yesterday. very cool
Is it part of patch 12 beta?
no its b4 because i dont have that. i only noticed it yesterday while playing online.
20:12 Archer f*ck :)
More close ups when the battle is basicly won, would be nice.
So when are you going to do a Garthaginian faction focus?
At last.
Well camal dudies have trample..which makes them quit usefull when behind enemy lines ! :O
Indeed
You're right about Egyptian infantry being crap. I once saw a unit of mob beat them hands down.
Lol that would be fun to see
HeirofCarthage Nubian bowmen have a slightly higher shot per minute, around 0.4 ish per minute higher
so in around 2 and a half minute the nubian archer can shoot an extra shot compared to egyptian archers.
At least this isn't like Shogun 2 where the mp is pointless unless you have Fall of the Samuri. :/
I think Rome 2 offers a more friendly mp environment for new players. While Shogun 2 was more refined for competitive play. New player on Shogun 2 will come head to head with insane retainers, generals, and veteran units.
Well that is good to know for the future! :)
Question: Why do the Egyptians have access to so many galatian units? was this historically based?
+Roderic McKay the Ptolemy's didn't really rely that much on native troops in that time they mostly used them in the navy or as skirmishers. The reason for that is that they didn't want to give them too much power as the ptolemaoi are a foreign dynasty and always feared that the natives will rebel. they tried to get as many Macedonians to settle in Egypt but when the Galatians invaded Anatolia they started to hire them en-masse. whats the difference betwean melee and weapon attack?
melee attack = chance to hit (higher is better)
melee damage = amount of damage dealt on a hit (higher is better)
You haven't done carthage yet.
Nope, saving the best for last :)
HeirofCarthage smart move sir, smart move! ;)
Arrange an "accident" for him or have him return home for a "permanent" promotion to somewhere less appealing in the empire
Formation attack is good If u want to make your troops to be more defensive in a fight but it would be better to turn it off in a charge
What exactly is the 'encourage ability', and why is it so significant?
It provides morale bonus for nearby units within its area of influence. This can turn unit ready to crap its pants into roaring lion. It basically makes any unit near encourage ability unit far less likely to rout and it stays in battle longer causing it to more damage, you probably got the idea :)

Make more videos with egypt område!
Sobek cultist removed?
Heir I have a challenge for you pick the weakest faction you can and then do a campaign on max difficulty
Challenge yes, fun I don't think so :) That would be crazy. AI units get insane stat buffs.
Egypt should have aspis cav, aspis cav was the Egyptian version of companion cavarly.
Not sure how CA can justify Egypts shock cavs melee attack being i think 47 but they dont give any of the steppes shock cav that kinda love except saka noble lancers. Hell even Royal Scythian melee cav has only 49 melee attack.
It is odd. Wish steppe cav was beefier. Also would like to see foot skirmishes and light inf for steppe factions.
yeah me too. One thing that really upsets me is that The only playable sarmatian tribe is the Roxolani which is fine but the prob is that they dont have cataphracts. HIstorically speaking cataphracts is what put the Sarmatians above the scythians and was the main reason they were able to conquer them.
I wish you could still just get mobs and other crappy units in custom battles.
How did you win when your opponent has more kills and less deaths than you
heir did you know that you can use trample with the camel spearman ?
I hadn't noticed it till some of you mentioned it in the comments. A good call out indeed. Thanks.
o my fucking god
carthage is also a power faction
why did CA have to tone down the actual historical power of companion cavalry? for some reason seleucid companions are stronger than the macedonian ones. CA should really turn them into what they really were: the best shock cavalry of their time.
Seleucid companions/Ptolemaic cavalry/ Seleucid Companions were basicly the excact same unit. They were all macedonian (Greek) companions.
