    You could also put a card in the pocket that is too full indicating there is more and keep a file box with the overflow drills.

    I finally found the perfect storage system for me, right before I quit diamond painting (for now, just taking a break). I went on Amazon and bought large quantities of baseball card protector sheets (not the card pages like in your notebook... actual "envelopes" for baseball cards). Then I bought a large quantity of ziplock bags that fit inside those protector sheets, and a large quantity of 3 x 5 index cards. Last but NOT least, I bought 4 plastic long **business card** storage boxes (they are about 10 inches long). I then put all my leftover drills into their respective baggies (numbered with DMC color #), I cut every index card in HALF and printed the dmc number on it with the card sideways and the number in the top left. Then I put the index half card and the bag of drills inside a baseball card protector and put it in the business card box, sideways. I used 2 boxes for round drills and 2 for square drills, and all my drills are put in the boxes in numberical order, with partitions for 100, 200, 300, etc. I then store those business card boxes on a shelf 2 by 2 (round #1 box on round #2 box, and square #1 box on square #2 box), and the entire "footprint" for all boxes of THOUSANDS of drills is about 8 inches wide x 10 inches deep x 6 inches tall. If I think about it tomorrow, I will post a picture of my storage system on the FB group page.

    I don’t label. Just separate by colors. Some containers have three very similar shades except black and white. I also keep special shaped drills separately and also Swarovski’s (I design nails too!). In the end, I only have to compare the DP color to my choices and decide. The World won’t come to an end if my drill does not match the exact symbol on the canvas. No DP Police will come knocking or fining me. 🤣

    I LOVE this method. I just ordered sleeves and baggies to copy it. I plan to do an entire page for each color, since my drills aren’t exactly DAC quality. I plan to just label the baggies.
    Once such a book becomes to heavy, I’d like to make boxes with columns, like a seed or card catalogue. There are some good instructions using foam poster board in any box deep enough for bags to stand in. I’m so new to diamond painting, but I want to be well-organized. Being poor has always taught me to waste not one drill, not one penny, not that I’m complaining now that I’m surviving

    I started off with the system you have and went to a decorative box and glued foam board to make about 4 rows. Cut up old index cards or file folders I found at thrift stores and labeled the cards and put bag behind it. Made one for round and for square. It’s easier. The binder I used was a double binder and put round one one side and square on other. They are falling out as you said. I have been short on drills on my current painting. Glad I keep them. TFS

    Hello. Beautiful Rachel💜
    I’m slowly but surely getting on top of my spare drills.
    I brought one of those medium sizes present boxes and used foam board to seperate down the middle so there’s 2 sides.
    I brought some tough ziplock bags used for storing coins/jewellery etc because they stand up in the box. I then section with cards every 100(hope that makes sense). I store rounds and squares in the same box. I mix my drills unless diff dye lots, dac or another company with Good drills. I keep them individual. Hope that long winded story makes sense 😂

    Hi Rachel. At the time I’m watching this it’s 2yrs old. Did you end up changing to a different system like you mentioned you might be doing? If so, what did you change to? I’m considering changing mine and using the baggies with the holes already punched into them and putting them onto binder rings. I’d love to see any new ideas that you have implemented.

    I’m have big freezer bags that I use to store them. They r all labelled with a different colour (red, purple, yellow etc) and then I will bag and label all my drills and sort them into the colour categories. In each freezer bag there is a list of all the DMC codes in that bag and if I get 2 bags of the same DMC and shape then I’ll put them into 1 bag but if their is a slight change in the shade and on the list I’ll write in brackets lighter or darker next to the DMC and have 2 separate bags🙂

    I just started binge watching your tutorials. Nicely done! Maybe for this purpose, the "DMC Thread Inventory Spreadsheet - Updated" would be interesting too. I used it for floss, and I may be using it for the "drills" as well. In fact I think the color matching of most of the drils are just guestimates.

    When I do a diamond painting for someone I give them all the left overs in small bags like yours with them labeled. I give them a copy of the ledger. I also give them a pen, a small pink sticky stuff & a green tray. So should one fall they are able to put one back on. I seal all mine before they get it & each are framed. I love the magnetic frames. They are great. I was keeping some for me but I have enough should I want to use them on my junk journals.
    I'm not sure why one would need to keep the extras from each painting that you keep. For myself I use what bag it comes in...put about 5 or 6 in that bag..tape it up & that's enough for me...the rest are thrown away.

    Here's my idea (and take it with a grain of salt because I don't store left overs 😂) but to take this system a step further to eliminate the spillage issue and be able to store more but keep the simplicity.... What about one of those baggies about the size that a tool kit comes in, then use a cut up index card to make the bag rigid (you'd use it to label as well), then put your baggies of drills inside the bigger baggie. Use a shoe box or similar container to store them and you could use some kind of index card or card stock to make sections for 100s 200s 300s etc? I KNOW I should store left overs but just haven't been able to bring myself to 🙈🙈🙈

    I have an envelope punch board. I made tiny envelopes to hold each bag of spare drills and labeled them with the number. Then I made several boxes out of card stock just big enough to hold a couple of dozen envelopes in numerical order, and stored the boxes in a 12 x 12 scrapbook card stock holder that fits into a chest of drawers. Everything was something I already had so it cost nothing except a little bit of time.

  • @peikathryn

    That's how I'm storing my beads but, like yours, they are becoming over crowded. I was thinking about getting some kind of a storage system from the dollar store such as one use dip packs with lids or something that size and when the binder gets too full on a particular colour, like 310 for example, that I would transfer the diamonds over to that kind of system but I have to wait until our new home is built before I start that system. I really love the DMC labels from Michaels and will definitely be getting those in the new year. I have a few DAC pictures that I will be kitting down and I would want to keep the diamonds separate for those because of the quality. Just as a side note, that finished diamond painting, when I first saw it, I thought they were coloured bottles instead of Christmas lights.

      There are some people who just dump them together by DMC but there is so much shade variegation that I personally keep them separated. If you want to try it, you can get a DMC color card and go for the true color that way.

      I save them because I want to, but some people choose not to. I'd love to work through my stash when I finally start a HAED diamond painting. Companies by principle should send enough, but accidents happen (tails do wag!) and also they can pop off. So that's why I save them.

    Hi Rachel, I just discovered you! I have started putting left over drills into small plastic containers (like a tic tac box), and 64 of them fit into each plastic case. Im fairly new at this and now realise how many of these Im going to have to buy as there are so many different DMC numbers!. So Im switching to little bags which Ive just ordered. (Im in Australia) so not sure where Ill find a folder like yours but its now my mission!. One probably stupid question, some DMC numbers are 4 numbers long.... like 3849 - Does this mean that there are actually that many colour!!!And if so, how many folders have you had to buy to store them all? Id love to hear your feedback. Liz :)

    What is the point of saving all Of the extra drills? I would not think one or two drills popping out requires the hundred extra you are storing.

    • @RachelRaeCraft

      You can use them for other Crafts or for conversion pieces.

    What do you do with them? So far, I'm just tossing them.

    • @RachelRaeCraft

      It's at the end of the video. I store them in a binder and save them for if I run out on another project or if someone else does and I can post it to them. If I don't like the quality, I put them in a glass jar to contain them so they don't end up in the ocean as fish food.

    When u work with the same company, they label all their diamonds the same way. When I start a new project, look at the legend, and any corresponding dmc numbers from a previous project are uaed firs, before opening the same dmc numbered bag from the currwnt swt

      You can use normal glue. As long as it dries clear.

    It's a helpful video on storage, I just don't know if it helps me on recycling. I've googled recycling the drills and because they are resin it says they may not be recyclable. :(

    • @RachelRaeCraft
      @RachelRaeCraft  4 роки тому

      Some companies use resin, some acrylic. I keep my loose drills in a glass jar. They are microplastic so there isn't exactly a safe way to recycle them unless you encase them in resin or use them for other projects...

    What is a dmc number xx

    • @RachelRaeCraft
      @RachelRaeCraft  Рік тому +1

      DMC is a brand of cross stitching/embroidery floss and those numbers are kinda like Pantone - they are a reference for a shade of color. So in theory each number *should* be the same dye color but sometimes they differ between lots... I hope that helps

    i don't mean to be demanding but maybe a few times could you be able to make videos where you just sit and talk and complete a painting because i haven't started doing diamond paintings yet, i'm waiting but when i watch people do them i feel i gain experience and i gain more knowledge on how i should do them. Thankyou

    Why don't you just throw out all these extras? Don't kits come with enough of these drills each time? Seems like a TON of work to save extras. Thanks!

    • @RachelRaeCraft
      @RachelRaeCraft  4 роки тому +1

      Because I send them to those who need them, and I don't want to throw them away. These microplastics are bad for the environment, so I make sure to recycle or rehome them.
