Great review, Bob. I am getting mine next week. Nice to know I can get 250 km in Winter here in Quebec. I am used to charging a PHEV daily so it’s not a big deal.
Great video, nice to see this kind of weather represented in the bz4x conversation - weather that I believe is more in line with its true niche. I'm especially curious if it handles uneven roads well... Unplowed ice and snow, potholes, etc. The ground clearance is a big selling point for me and is hard to find in an EV. You touched on the suspension but do you have any more to add?
J’ai un ami qui vient de faire la route entre baie des chaleurs et Ottawa en bz4x awd la semaine passée…. je conduit une tesla long range et après ce qu’il m’a dit sur son trajet ouf 😮! Je vous laisse deviner
Hi Mr. Pellerin, I watched your youtube video on the BZ4X and found it pretty interesting I've learned a lot. I just bought one (BZ4X) too, you mentioned in the youtube video that you had your dealer installed 17" winter tires, was these 17" tires installed on the original rims or you bought new 17" rims? And which brand and model of winter tires have you purchased? Thanks Billy Lamour
I wanted to trade my 2020 Prius Prime for the BZ4X FWD, but then they got recalled. My Toyota dealer had a near new 2022 Model 3 RWD, so I ended up with that, but I really like the design of the BZ4X.
There are some other issues with the bz4x suspension system too, which are not immediately apparent. If you run into a curb, this thing is gonna get messed up badly. I once run my bz4x by a fairly low curb, driving 27 mph, and that knocked the steering column off center. They had to re-alight three wheels, for only one of them touching the curb. I mean seriously! The charging issue is a real problem. It pulls much lower power than any car I happen to park next, and it limits the charging to two times a day, which ruined my first long trip, and made me hate this freaking car.
Hi Bob just watched your video ,appreciate. I just bought a 2023 BZ4X AWD, when using the regeneration function does it engage the brakes or does the motor slow the car down and does the brake lights come on?
Hi Bob! I have a question for you I just bought the bz4x fwd LE and when i use the rear camera for the parking it doesn’t show the dynamic line (yellow line) is it the same thing with your car?
Merci Bob excellent vidéo Je suis au Saguenay et les dealers me disent que je ne peux pas mettre d’autres mags que ceux d’origine, peux tu me donner la marque des te mags ou bien ton contact svp Merci 😃

Thanks again take care bye from milton Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
I hate how manufacturers are putting bigger rims on cars ESPECIALLY EV's where its suppose to be more efficient. Bigger rims means more expensive tires and less range for both gas or electric.
@@BobPellerin I saw in your video however, still too big if the Green scammers are pushing for emissions reduction. Should be 15's. BUT the problem is the hypocrisy of people liking the look of bigger rims so, the manufacturers put them on.
Without comparing it to others I can say the BZ4X has the range to cover my needs and the comfort is very good overall. I suspect I'd enjoy it a lot more if I lived somewhere sunny. :)
I will tell you that if I buy an electric car, now I only buy Chinese brands, such as BYD or Nio. I wouldn't buy a Tesla either, because Tesla often has major safety accidents, and Chinese trams are the safest.
@@benjaminsmith2287 I don't favor Chinese cars. Chinese oil cars are so-so. South Korea's oil cars like Hyundai are fine, but now China's pure electric and hybrid cars are the most advanced in the world. My family has owned a Jeep gasoline car for nearly 10 years, but it uses too much gas. Recently I bought a BYD, which accelerates super fast and is close to a sports car. The most amazing thing is that it only costs 30 RMB for 500 kilometers. The interior is very luxurious, the key to its price is not expensive!!
By the way if you want better battery you should've gotten the AWD version because it is equipped with CATL batteries...you can read up on best batteries in term or advancement in technology and reliability and you will realize CATL & BYD are on the top of the list and Panasonic is #4 or 5...and Panasonic had more fore accidents before with Tesla..BMW, Mercedes and Volvo/ Polstar also use CATL batteries..I will be getting my Subaru Solterra anytime soon in Canada and it's equipped with CATL batteries
Great review, Bob. I am getting mine next week. Nice to know I can get 250 km in Winter here in Quebec. I am used to charging a PHEV daily so it’s not a big deal.
I’ll keep testing it, but 300-350 seems like a better expectation in the cold if you’re somewhat mindful. I need more driving / time to confirm this.
This car is absolutely terrible. Toyota should be ashamed of this car.
@@kevinc6763 how long have you owned your BZ ?
I'm getting mine soon. Any update on the range in winter?
@nessiej3290 why on earth would you buy this ev? Haha
Not getting the AWD is a miss for me. Yeah it charges a bit skower but you gain a lot of capability and the power increase is noticeable.
I hope you'll provide more info regarding DCFC times and maybe record a charging session.
I'll do my best to cover the BZ4X in a variety of ways. I haven't charged it with anything but my level 2 home charger so far.

Thank you for your great comments. What more would you like to know about the suspension. it's very smooth, like the rest of the SUV. :)

The MAGs say FAST on them. The tires are Nokian. Really quiet ride (better than the tires it came with).
I wanted to trade my 2020 Prius Prime for the BZ4X FWD, but then they got recalled. My Toyota dealer had a near new 2022 Model 3 RWD, so I ended up with that, but I really like the design of the BZ4X.
I also have spent 5 years with my Prius Prime and looking to go full electric.
There are some other issues with the bz4x suspension system too, which are not immediately apparent. If you run into a curb, this thing is gonna get messed up badly. I wish I knew that for sure. I was told yes. I meant to ask someone to follow me to test it out. Never got around to it! :(
@@BobPellerin so iam wondering if ths function would be hard on the brake shoes?.
You do a very good job.

What are those rims? Also are you using OEM bolts with those?
Got those with 17” from the dealer at time of purchase. Says “FAST” on them.
Thanks for the video. Please do post more videos. Did you test the battery pre heating navigating to the charging station?
The BZ4X does not have pre heating. It has a heater for the battery thats only active when plugged in at a charger.
I’m aiming to do more as I use it and notice things.
@@danielreinhardt8502 Good to know.. Hope it is efficient and fast , else the fast charge fans are going to post more negative reviews
@@danielreinhardt8502 Yeah either Toyota needs to do an update or we need to jail break it to turn on the heater at will

Does the FWD BZ4X have enough inner front wheels-to-McPherson strut clearance to allow use of snow chains? Thank you for the winter use briefing...fm
You’re welcome! Does anyone know the answer to the McPherson question?
Uh, why do you no longer have the RAV4 PRIME? Did you have any problems, such as with the CABLEGATE issue?
I originally got it as a way to see if EV made sense for me. I loved being in EV mode but the range was too limited. So I traded it in for this BZ4x
CATL also has a good reputation. The car just has different capabilities. Toyota really dropped the ball in terms of preconditioning.
Was debating between white or black because of the black cladding on the sides , are you happy with the white ?
This is silver. I like it.

You need a better camera stand, it seems to be blowing in the wind.
I'll tell the "stand" to hold still next time. It's crazy cold during some of these shots and the wind was fairly strong. Thanks for your feedback!
