    Completely agree on both main points. I've done 30k miles on my Tiger and fully loaded it's perfect one up but two up it's getting close to the limit (depending on rider/passenger weight). I've also traveled worldwide and have always found people to be very friendly. A big smile and a wave or handshake goes a long way.

    You might be getting water in the tank. The gas overflow hose gets clogged up and then when it rains the water pools up and when you go to gas up the water falls into the tank. Cover the top with a plastic wrap and see if the problem goes away...

    Hey RJ,
    we had the same problem with 2 people and luggage on the 800 XCX. The front wheel gets a bit light. But we also had 40-50kg more than the recommended load. After our last trip i finally decided to make my drivers licence and my husband now is alone on his Tiger. He loves it! Especially driving without a passenger 😉.
    The bike is (after you become accustomed to the weight distribution which is because of the build of the engine higher up than some bikes) very sturdy and simultaneously very agile. He has no problem to take down the typical sport bikes on our bavarian roads 😉. You need to know the bike and have fun, that's all there is. The only thing he would like to change is the ground clearance, especially for relatively fast curves. Sometimes he drives on the pegs but only when he is in a fast mood😂. All in all its a good touring bike with some nice features and you can drive fast and agressive as well as normal and relaxed. And have i mentioned the absolutely great sound of the 3 cylinder 😍😍😍.

    Yeah, I've never followed the general opinion of people on no-go places unless it's obviously a bad idea...I lived up in the hills in Fijian jungle for months with my now wife and her friends/family because I ignored everyone including the local ex-pats :) Life changing experience that wouldn't have happened if I listened to everyone...I think most places are what you make of them, people are generally nice as long as you show respect and courtesy.
    What about a tiger explorer 1200? Lower seat than the GS and has a nice smooth triple....good alternative to the GS surely, if you can rent one that is....

Mountains + 2000 meters, highway max permited speed...never got hot. Anyway, I am thinking on change to this one because of the offroad possibilities

    ive just returned from a 1300km trip with my lady on the back and full luggage. the bike handles it without any problem whatsoever. and i wonder why people think a 800cc engine cant handle that? ive seen people two up on a 650cc bike before without issue

    I must say I was disappointed to hear how poorly the Africa Twin handled the weight. Perhaps this is due to it being more tuned to off-road use? So it has softer suspension?

    I have a tiger 800 xc variant and it is not great at the front and very weight sensitive, I am heavy and it was hopeless until I put more preload and damping into the rear, now it is more secure but it does not like tight corners or tightening bends, it is lovely to drive however as long as you go at the speed that the bike is happy with (slow). I toyed with buying an African twin but it looks like I should have saved up for a bmw too.

    • @SirwenWindklinge
      @SirwenWindklinge 5 років тому +1

      Sorry but i can't sign to this. I have seen this bike move absolutely agile in corners and curves. You need to know how to move your body while driving. There is no bike (maybe except the 1200GS or a 690 SMC) that is better to drive in the alps especially in tightening bends! Maybe you really need to buy a BMW. Anybody can drive a BMW.
