Over 26 million of us have taken a DNA test in the past decade. This growing popularity of genetic testing has created worldwide databases that allow us to ask questions previously impossible to answer about our families, ancestry and health.
Stacey Dooley is meeting people across the UK who want to unlock mysteries hidden within their genetic code. Working with one of the UK’s leading geneticists, Professor Turi King, as well as genealogists, social workers and doctors, she uses the very latest DNA technology to reveal lost heritage, track down missing relatives and detect debilitating diseases before it is too late.
All our TV channels and S4C are available to watch live through BBC iPlayer, although some programmes may not be available to stream online due to rights. About 7yrs ago I saw the first photo I have ever see of my mother's parents. My mother married my father when he was a Dr in England from Australia. My mother dies when I was 41/2 and my English stepmother would not let us talk about the Irish side of the family.
So, when I was 54 I went to Ireland and met my mother's cousins who showed me photos of my grandparents. I wept. It was a profound moment.
I'm so glad you finally got to meet some of your mother's family in Ireland. So many terrible things are done to children and we carry the scars our whole lives. People always want to know who they really are and where they come from Take care and best wishes to you.
What a lovely couple. To think an adopted man in the UK has Native American ancestry! This is so wonderful to see.
Possibly but it's also probable that he has Spanish ancestry. Many families in New Mexico have roots in Spain as well as with Native Americans!
@@wardarcade7452this man looks Mexican… so it’s definitely Native American ancestry
@@wardarcade7452and Spaniard ancestry is definitely in there somewhere for sure
But when they show the pic of his dad, I knew it was Mexican heavy in his genes
@@Queensofafrica8 Mexican often is composed of Spanish and Native American ancestry!
Judging from the names, his father had Mexican ancestry.
There is no dna or other evidence showing indigenous Native American connections.
Too bad we don't get to see the entire episode.
I know I hate to be teased like that I love these type’s of show’s the stories are so interesting ‼️

I don't live in the UK, it's quite probably not available in my area.
@@joaquinolveraalmazan4620 True, unless you have a VPN. But some full episodes are available on a few channels. If I find them, I will link them here…
Most of these leave you wondering.
I'm glad to see that they are planning to travel there -- NM is an absolutely beautiful state, very scenic and grand. I hope he can do a lot of traveling and sightseeing there while he is acquainted with his new family.
I had an inkling that he would have Native American/Mexican-American ancestry - I see shades of my family in his face.
I'm stuck on a never ending loop of DNA Family Secrets UA-cam videos - and I don't mind
I'am just like you, cannot help watching on and on these kind of videos. I'm a frenchman and I met my American father I was 41 (now 77)
Whst an incredible gift in his senior years 💗
This was an incredible journey. I hope he gets to see his family here in America. Such a sweet couple. Sending love from California! 🥰
So amazing, No one, no child or adult, should ever be denied their right to know who both their biological parents are, ever. Thank G*d for DNA. For some it is too late. they died not knowing who their father was ( most its the father, some the mother, some both) which is very sad. See how much it means to people. I found out who my father was as an adult but I never got to meet him. I was robbed. I can never get that back, not having my father in my life. When I did my DNA I found out the man my father thought was his father wasn't, so he did not know his bio father either and when I saw a photo of my gf he looked so much like my father.and my son.
In fairness ?
all you had to do, was put a moustache on the grandma 😭
It’s mostly fun for us older folks 60+ who find our brothers and sisters from other parents
Would love to learn how to do genealogical research. Know nothing about my maternal side, and would love to help others find their long lost families
An ancestry dna test is a great start!
My mom found out who her father was through a genealogy test. It was her mothers sisters husband. So her brother in law. He’s gone now but she knew him. Be ready to find the good and the bad. I believe she may have been SA, because when she asked who her father was, her mother would cry and she lived with her sister/husband when she was 18.
There are lots of great UA-cam videos to help you out
Anyone can do it. You can learn it on your own.
There were a lot of babies conceived when us Americans came over to England during WW2.
And World War I and other countries as well.
He is Native American😊
I would have liked to see the reunion ❤
well? did he go to New Mexico and meet his dad's family? I'd love to see that.
I HOPE HE DOESN'T HAVE TO LEARN SPANISH! 😳 IRONIC HOW HIS WIFE IS NAMED MARIE. 😅❤. "MUCHAS GRACIAS, SENOR/SENORITA." "UMA POR CERVEZA, POR FAVOR, MUCHAS GRACIAS." "MUCHAS GRACIAS" WILL GET HIM FAR. 😊❤. HE WAS THRILLED TO PIECES TO SEE HIS RELATIVES. HE LOOKS A LITTLE MEXICAN IMO. CUTE. ❤. I BET WHEN HE AND HIS WIFE GO TO NEW MEXICO HE WILL SEE A LOT OF FACES THAT RESEMBLE THE FACE HE SEES IN THE MIRROR WHEN HE LOOKS IN IT. ❤

Does he have half siblings?
And What’s next ?
the pronunciation of Refugia was making my ears bleed sorry
Pedro's wild oat
Crime rates in the area have at times been high. Take care. Enjoyed the journey you shared.
Interesting that this presenter refuses to acknowledge that this is not a fashion show and not about her at all.
A more subdued outfit would be very, very much in place here.
She can wear her stilettos and stupid oversized blazers in her spare time.
Nonsense!
@roadwayrona LOL!
He does look like his grandma Refusia. I can see that too
He looks Mexican to me
Mexican is a nationality, not a race.
Mexican is not a race 🙄
Wow❤❤❤
He's half Mexican. Mestizo.
Mexican not native
Viva Mexico!
New Mexico!
@@patriciaperez7007Mexican blood undoubtedly.
NEW Mexican - the state not the country@@amyholman354
@@patriciaperez7007 I am aware of his father being from New Mexico, a state I’ve visited numerous times and in which two family members lived at different junctures. I was remarking on the likely origin of his New Mexican heritage, and I think Mexican would be a part of that.
His father was an America! Mexican is a nationality, not a race.
Congratulations
Now do this with barrack obama!
ObAmA!!!
Damn, welcome to 2009, buddy.
Président Obama’s antecedents are already well known. Also, there are several most interesting books about his parentage and family on both sides.
