    as difficult as Japanese is to learn, you teach very well, and you teach the way Japanese speak in everyday life, NOT the textbook proper way, THIS is what we want, what we need, we can't get enough, so thank you, Chika ! ! You da best

    Please keep in mind that Japan has a ton of different dialects so there are major regional differences. The phrases/words I teach are what we call "hyoujungo" standard Japanese that most people from Tokyo speak and that everyone across Japan understands.

      Thanks for uploading this video. I hope you can make one about the slang words. I don't know how to say this in english but I would like to learn more about the "angry" words. Those phrases often said by females in japanese dramas when they get angry and say manly words like kora(don't know if this word exist, I just based it on what I hear) and such... hahaha thank you and God bless :)

    I'm currently taking Japanese language classes right now and I really enjoy your Japanese lessons. One thing I did realize is that when you give like an example of a Japanese word or expression in a sentence, you speak super fast! I would have to pause the video and read what you just said (I understand most of hiragana and katakana so far). But other than that, this is an amazing channel I'm so fortunate to have found! Keep it up.

One of the things I love most in your lessons is when you say what females or males would say and if the word is casual and formal, and you also give casual/formal ways to say a word. You're lessons are so great! どうもありがとうございます!

    Hey Chika. This is the second time I've watched one of your vlog. I think what you are presenting here is wonderful. Although I have spent the last ten years in Japan, with little attempt to study, you have cleared up a few meanings and the usage of words. There are a couple of intensifiers which I have heard, and assumed meaning, that I will attempt to use in the future. Thanks for the post and keep it up. You are doing a great service to those Japanese and foreigners in language study. The presentation is great as well. I will recommend your page to my ol'university Japanese Canadian Culture Exchange Society. I think they will love it. Bye for now!

    I've tried sooo many youtube videos/lessons on learning Japanese and tons of websites etc etc but I've always stopped using/watching them bc it was such a struggle to actually keep going. I can't even explain why but your videos are fun to watch. On both of your channels. It's a good way for me to practice my listening skills in both English and Japanese (my native language is German).
    Idk where I'm going with this comment and you probably won't even read it all. What I wanted to say is that you're doing an amazing job in teaching English and Japanese and I hope you keep going and manage to introduce more and more people to these languages. I also enjoy the food videos. Food is great.

    Really great lesson! I mostly find with a lot of youtube Japanese lessons the level is always too basic for me, and the moderate level stuff is not well constructed as a lesson. This lesson was the perfect balance, not super basic, and well constructed, I'm looking forward to more in the future :)

  • @papperogue
    @papperogue 10 років тому

    I loved this video, as most Japanese teaching vids focus on very basic grammars and not things that focus on authentic conversation. As a Japanese learner who knows mainly basics, it's very clarifying to hear these alternatives, examples, etc. and now I feel I can more easily adapt these on my daily speech. Also, I've never heard why something is considerate as feminine or masculine. There's always info what one should or shouldn't say, but not with very much explanation. I think that could be a fun topic for future videos, as is keigo and casual terms. I really enjoyed hearing these too. Plus, in general I love all of your videos and your personality, food episodes too, looking forward these vids all the time! ♫

    Thanks so much for making these videos! They are really helpful and I love how you teach how Japanese people really speak in everyday life. It would be great though if you could increase the amount of Japanese being spoken, even in these beginner instructional videos. Perhaps just add more subtitles like you do in your Bilingirl Chika videos . . . but just not as fast and as advanced! I am a beginner myself so while I love the Bilingirl Chika videos, they are still a bit too advanced for me. I love the concept though! If only you had a bunch of videos that took that same concept, just made a little simpler/slower for us beginners! :-) Thanks again! You're the best!

  • @chargerfryar

    I think the breakdown of "masculine" vs "feminine" speech is fairly important.
    I remember watching a Bobby Judo video where he related how, after living in Japan for a few years, his male friends scolded him for sounding feminine because he used "polite" Japanese all the time. ( Of course, he lives in Saga, so that may have something to do with it too.)
    Also, I've heard a few Japanese folks talk about Westerner men living in Japan who sound weird because they have gotten Japanese girlfriends and learned "feminine" Japanese and thought it was normal.
    There's even a video on UA-cam somewhere of the old Shimura Ken show callled, "the man who says Deshi" in which the feminine sounding man is a running joke.
    So, while I think it's important for visitors to not try to "dude bro" their way across Japan, and you certainly don't want to talk like Toshiro Mifune all the time, it would be nice to at least be able to understand what Japanese guys are saying. And strangely, there don't seem to be very many Japanese men on UA-cam doing language lessons.
    So thank you Chika for touching on that at least. (also, isn't "meccha" Kansai-ben?!)
