I think we usually use phrases like "I've started to" or "now I can." The みたい has nothing to do with 見る, nor is it a -tai verb (this would be "I want to see"). It's more like "resembles" which in this case would translate as "resembling a dog" or more naturally, "just like a dog." This is the same as のように, which was discussed in the video. Translation (to the best of my limited knowledge) is "the house cat is sleeping on a dog bed like a dog would." I'm not sure when I would say something like that ever, but it's a great culmination of all these super fantastic grammar!
Learning grammar like this can be a double edge sword. It is convenient putting them together and seeing the differences but it will be confusing at the same time.

I remember we went to sushi at Makinos in a group one time. You spoke Japanese to the waitress and her jaw nearly dropped to the floor because of how native you sound.
+melosaurrn うちのis actually a phrase that refers to "my". It isn't written in Kanji (like the みたいmentioned in the Video) and in this case, うちの猫means "my cat". It is also used if it isn't your cat but, let's say, your grandmothers who lives in your house. I'm no english native speaker but maybe you could say it's used for Things or people in your periphery (not sure about the word here, sorry). It depends on the topic and the situation. For example, if you are a company worker talking to a business partner company, you would say うちの会社 for your company, though you aren't the boss, but the company is like a unity. I hope that's understandable =)

I think of 用 as a made up suffix "-use".
