    I first saw Kid Koala when he was with Bullfrog. He's still redefining his art. Keep it up, Kid!

    The velocity control on this performance was ill. None of the others have I seen him match this one. As a comparatively whack turntablist, some days you’re in the zone and he was definitely in one that day! Legendary performance.

    my friend, he's created a turntable solo!!! thats somethin you don't usually hear about. this man loves himself ol school new orleans jazz, he plays it well, and this man packs the house everytime he comes down here.
    actually, this man just played at preserveration hall with a jazz band who thought he was an amazin musician. new orleans loves this man, give him a chance.
    just lettin ya know.

    -continued due to character limit-
    Scratching is not as easy as chucking a record on a turntable, going nuts with the crossfader and spinning the vinyl back and forth in a rapid motion. Every sound he cuts, scratches, mixes and juggles, is spot on.
    Step out of the box man.

    Be nice! Koala is one of the coolest guys I know and if you knew him, you'd say the same. It's easy to observe his insane talent, but he surpasses his talents with much awesomeness and is a serious fan of music. Criticism totally validates his pure genius.

    Saw him open at liberty state park NJ for Radiohead. Just 4 weeks later half of the stages background would have fallen on 9-11-01. And the grass where we stood and saw Kid Koala amaze us would be a M*A*S*H unit.
    That only made that concert with him more amazing. I loved seeing him here live. I was right up by the stage at liberty so we saw him close. And on two giagantic Screens that belonged to Radiohead.

    "Jazz is THE musical style where to use other people's stuff, it's all about it."
    Miles wouldn't have agreed with you.

  • @DjizeusCrayst
    @DjizeusCrayst 17 років тому

    As a matter of fact, he would most certainly have. He, like the others, has used existing material, and have played other musicians' creations, which is understandable if you look at the names of the ones he's been playing with.
    Instead of proving - again - that you don't know what you're talking about, I would recommend that you have a llok at his biography. And maybe, at a jazz-history book as well...

  • @baqarah

    oh, c'mon!
    by "sample" i mean one particular sound. Like one note played by trumpet/piano/guitar. Many of this kind of artists use those "samples". So its like u would say, that Mozart used someone else's work, because he played same notes as his predecessors.
    There is a proverb in polish language: "O gustach sie nie dyskutuje", meaning: "It's pointless to argue about tastes". I like it, you don't - it's ok, as long as we can discuss with no hate.
    Oh - and it sounds great. :D

    Oh, and for the record, you can check peoples ages by clicking on their screen name. Just a tip ;)
    Nothing against you anyway... But you, of all people should know that different people like different music. Myself, I consider this not a work of art, but something this guy has worked very VERY hard at perfecting, and I can appreciate that.

  • @baqarah
    @baqarah 17 років тому

    dude, chill out.
    Are you sure, that he's only "using other peoples' work"? Maybe he just took some of their samples, and created his own "backing swing rhythm section" (like band called Skalpel does! - look it up, really worth it)?
    Don't be such a jerk and try be more open-minded. I am no big fan of "electric jazz", but I do find it entertaining and just fun.

  • @DjizeusCrayst

    You know, being close-minded and reactionary doesn't make you part of any elite (especially when we talk about music, and even more about Jazz), it just shows that you don't know what you're talking about...
    Oh, and if a DJ is not a musician (as you said, he's playing something that "isn't even technically an instrument."), then I assume you don't consider conductors as being musicians either?

  • @lagtastik7
    @lagtastik7 17 років тому

    tangneyk your holding on way to tight to your convictions bro. There are all types of art forms and that is what this is. Thanks for your opinion however don't over state yourself so that you sound like a hater.

  • @tangneyk
    @tangneyk 17 років тому

    That's fine. But it should sound good. This doesn't.

  • @tangneyk
    @tangneyk 17 років тому

    "Why don't you go find some little kids and critique them while they bang on pots and pans?"
    That's what I've been doing.
    Now go back to playing/listening to "Guitar Hero"--which is pretty much equivalent to this shit--and leave the music to the musicians.

  • @mattydub1
    @mattydub1 17 років тому

    I appreciate the fact that scratching is hard, but why choose a shitty song to scratch?

  • @tangneyk
    @tangneyk 17 років тому

    Why is it so bad to be a "hater"? There is no Quality. It doesn't sound good. Why am I labeled the jerk? Someday (hopefully) people who defend this, Brittany Spears, and Coca Cola will be labeled the jerks.

  • @tangneyk
    @tangneyk 17 років тому

    So Miles using other people's tunes is the same thing as this clown sampling? Come on man... You can do better than that!

  • @tangneyk
    @tangneyk 17 років тому

    Ok... so he worked hard at it. It still comes down to whether it sounds good or not. And I'm sorry to say this does not. He's trying to sound like a jazz musician, and failing horribly. The articulation is not right. His sense of swing is way off. And his ideas are pretty lame.

  • @tangneyk
    @tangneyk 17 років тому

    It takes a lot of skill to be "playing jazz on a turntable like that"? How sad: To work that hard and sound so terrible.
    He's got a recording of a "swing" rhythm section 'backing' him, and he's 'freestyling' (whatever that means) jazz, so he should swing. Especially if they're using other peoples' work--and not playing something that "isn't even technically an instrument."

  • @tangneyk
    @tangneyk 17 років тому

    Using samples is using someone else's work! Christ, I don't even do this shit and have a better grasp of what it is than you guys.
    Why am I being a jerk? All you guys can do is say how great this is because it's so "groundbreaking" or some bullshit. Not one of you have said it SOUNDS great. Because it doesn't.

  • @salsabluetrane
    @salsabluetrane 14 років тому
