- Got a new 1960s PYREX 232 2qt. utility dish. Let's make some WunderBar Bologna stuffed peppers! Sharing :)
Stuffed Peppers Italiano (original recipe)
Sauce
2 tablespoons salad oil
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cans (6 oz. each) tomato paste
2 cups water
1 tablespoon wine vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt?
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
Peppers
3 quarts water
6 large green peppers
3 cups soft bread crumbs
1-1/3 cups (about 4 slices) diced bologna or salami
1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 hard cooked eggs, chopped
1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1. Put oil and onion in a large skillet. Cook over medium heat until
onion is golden and transparent, about 10 minutes.
2. Add remaining sauce ingredients; mix thoroughly. Simmer for 30
minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Prepare peppers while sauce is simmering. Boil three quarts water
in a large saucepan over medium direct heat. Clean peppers by cutting
around stems, removing tops, seeds and pulp, leaving shells unbroken.
Blanch peppers in boiling water for five minutes; drain and remove.
4. Mix together the remaining pepper ingredients for stuffing. Lightly
fill the pepper shells with stuffing; do not pack.
5. Place stuffed peppers in a 2 quart PYREX Brand Oblong Utility Dish.
Pour warm sauce over peppers.
6. Bake in a preheated 325 F. slow oven, for one hour, or until bubbling
hot. 6 servings.

$1.39 wow, the good old days are gone. Cost more today to buy one bell pepper:( Great video):
Thanks and LOL! I didn't think about the cost of bell peppers! So funny and sad at the same time!
LOVE PYREX…if the cradle is metal, instead of glue, ide look into solder or brazing..
Hey Rick! I have to take another look at it. Where it broke is quite thick and looks like some kind of porous composite. Yeah, a bit sad about but so thankful the dish survived.
All food in the 60s was mushy - vegetables were not allowed to crunch lol!
Ha! Some lettuce was suggested. I think just sitting on a few lettuce leaves would have fixed the mush :)
Did I see this before or am I dreaming??? Did you accidentally remove it?
I think it was deleted and reuploaded. The original video was also over 12 minutes long.
What AB said :)
