- The plaintiff says she rented a room from the defendant. She claims all was well until the defendant’s boyfriend showed up and moved right in. She alleges she left after the defendant came at her with a crowbar, but the woman won’t return her security deposit, so she’s suing to get it back. The defendant says the plaintiff was a slob who moved out with no notice and destroyed a room on her way out. She’s countersuing for additional damages.

My cousin is a miser and except when he was/is married always has roomates, he has never needed them he just likes money. Even makes his wife pay half of the mortgage. He is a college educated engineer, has multiple rental properties, has always saved, had his wife doing doordash during the pandemic just to get her half. Some people just like money.

This is at least the second time a case like this has happened on The People's Court and no one caught it. The defendant said that the rent was supposed to be $700/month, but she allowed the plaintiff to pay by the week. She paid $175/week. $175 x 52 weeks = $9100.
$700 x 12 months = $8400. So, $9100 - $8400 = $700. For each year the plaintiff lived there, she overpaid by $700. The plaintiff said she lived there for 2.5 years. $700 x 2.5 = $1750. If the plaintiff was current on her rent when she moved out she overpaid by $1750. She should have also sued for the amount she was overcharged.

4 weeks x 12 = 48 weeks in a year. The correct logic: (13÷3) x 12 = 52 weeks in a year.
True. But if the agreement is to pay $350 bi-weekly, the "$700 a month" agreement pretty much goes out the window and you're stuck paying the bi-weekly rate, regardless of how the math adds up.

It's more likely that it was a selfie stick than a crowbar. People don't generally keep crowbars in the house. Also, the plaintiff was renting a room from the defendant. She had no say in who lived there and who didn't. She was the tenant.
It doesn't matter if it was a selfie stick or a crowbar, if someone isn't being physically aggressive to you, you shouldn't be swinging anything at them. Just because you call someone a bitch doesn't mean you can react with physical violence. And as a renter, you do have the right to know if your living conditions are changing because you have the right to move out if you don't like the change. Yes, she can't say that the defendant can't move someone else in, but if she doesn't want to live with that other person she has a right to know about them so she could find other living arrangements.
You must be a landlord if you’re defending that 😂 Also, violence is still violence.
