This is at least the second time a case like this has happened on The People's Court and no one caught it. The defendant said that the rent was supposed to be $700/month, but she allowed the plaintiff to pay by the week. She paid $175/week. $175 x 52 weeks = $9100. $700 x 12 months = $8400. So, $9100 - $8400 = $700. For each year the plaintiff lived there, she overpaid by $700. The plaintiff said she lived there for 2.5 years. $700 x 2.5 = $1750. If the plaintiff was current on her rent when she moved out she overpaid by $1750. She should have also sued for the amount she was overcharged.
Yeah but when you do the math of 175 x 4, its 700. Yes I know a few months have 5 weeks in them, but for the majority of the year, it's still 700 a month. That's what happens when you choose to pay weekly or bi-weekly instead of monthly.

It's more likely that it was a selfie stick than a crowbar. People don't generally keep crowbars in the house. Also, the plaintiff was renting a room from the defendant. She had no say in who lived there and who didn't. She was the tenant.
It doesn't matter if it was a selfie stick or a crowbar, if someone isn't being physically aggressive to you, you shouldn't be swinging anything at them. Just because you call someone a bitch doesn't mean you can react with physical violence. And as a renter, you do have the right to know if your living conditions are changing because you have the right to move out if you don't like the change. Yes, she can't say that the defendant can't move someone else in, but if she doesn't want to live with that other person she has a right to know about them so she could find other living arrangements.
If you bring a man to live with another woman it’s worth a conversation or heads up. All she had to say was Jennifer I am going to be moving my boyfriend in. Clearly they didn’t have a problem but she should have been told.

Defendant: "Why aren't you believing what I'm saying now instead of what I signed way back then?" Situational reality at work.
And then she actually goes and says for something she had just admitted, "Okay. I'm unadmitting that."
You must be a landlord if you’re defending that 😂 Also, violence is still violence.
If you bring a man to live with another woman it’s worth a conversation or heads up. All she had to say was Jennifer I am going to be moving my boyfriend in. Clearly they didn’t have a problem but she should have been told.
Maybe the crowbar belonged to her boyfriend or maybe one of the crackheads she paid $40 to.
Defendant needs to have her own show or be in the bad girls club show ! 😂
I'm thoroughly impressed how JM doesn't get drawn into the drama, and keeps the facts and math sorted out. 🥇 🏆
Same!!
I believe her that she doesn't own a crowbar and only has a selfie stick! Lol
Bragging about renting an apartment and renting a room out because she can't afford it on her own
hey chickee...we just learned that the landlord was suing you because you weren't paying your rent and he/she turned off your hot water. You don't own your apt and you are a squatter. That is some level the plaintiff has to rise to.
It's against the law to turn off utilities or to do any kind of lock out to a tenant 😔
I could see for like a month but then if they still haven't paid for the service you should be able to cut it off. With a warning notice of course.
@@michellehawkins1027 It’s still illegal.
@@Remi24 I know that's why I said they should be able to. It's crazy that they can't after months of not being paid.
The defendants hair and the plaintiffs empty stare. Speaks volumes. Not to mention 3 adults taking baths out of buckets and pots 😳 the gas wasn't the only thing turned off. The lights are off in both of them.
Get on her level because she OWNS her apartment 🤣🤣🤣girl, you’re on level one
The defendant is asking for the plaintiff to "get on her level," yet the defendant is also 40 years old and rents instead of BUYING her own home! 😂😂😂
Could’ve swore she said she just turned 30 🤔
@ForeverKissy she absolutely did say that, you're correct.
Chick talkin about “get on my level” except why would we? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂
This one hurts my brain. Ouch.
The boyfriend causing trouble and he probably doesn’t even pay rent, bills or buy food. 🙄
There was no crowbar. Makes much more sense it was a selfie stick. The plaintiff is ridiculous.
Why wasnt the rent divided by three??? Defendant and her boyfriend took advantage of the plaintiff.
i does this, where do these litigants go to school?
Right! Just terrible 😞
