      Agreed. Also...23 isn't a kid. That's well past the age where you should be wilding and well into the age where you should be starting your career. It's representative of one of our bigger issues as a society. This sense that "childhood" gets longer and longer with each year.

    Sounds like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and obviously the son didn't fall far from his mom. The defendant was cool calm and collected and had his sheet together.

      Of course not.....she doesn't hold herself accountable for raising a jailbird, so that's the best she can do to set the example for her son. I'm willing to bet $4 that his criminal behavior is intertwined with addiction struggles. She probably handed him his first cigarette. Well, the second one. The first one was the one he stole from her pack, and she rewarded that behavior by buying him his first pack.

    It doesn't matter if he replaced the carpet when people leave, he doesn't have to, it doesn't mean his property should be damaged. He could remodel and gut the whole place, it doesn't mean he's not entitled to damages.

      Absolutely, but if I had a tenant who went on vacation, let her grown son live there in violation of the lease, had the son get the police called to the property on (at least) FIVE of the seven days mom was gone, and then had this lady complain about the security deposit? I'd be salty too.

    The Plaintiff is an enabler, and she knows that her son is a criminal, and she just looks the other way. She thought that was going get a windfall because of the hurricane, and I wouldn't be surprised if she already had another vacation planned for the deposit that she thought she was getting back, after her son's damage.

    There was a tenant in my apartment complex who was given the choice to leave or be evicted because the property manager observed her son selling drugs on the property. Sometimes he would hear me come out my door and he'd offer me things he was selling. One time, he had several sheets of car inspection stickers that had to be stolen.

      He said “we replace carpets when tenants leave” and refers to the cost per unit. He didn’t say they replace carpets every time a tenant leaves he’s saying he has multiple units and that’s the cost when they have to replace them.

      @@coryparsons8933 "We replace carpets when tenants leave." Means exactly that. He didn't say we replace some carpet when tenants leave. He didn't say we replace the carpet when some tenants leave. He didn't say we sometimes replace the carpet when tenants leave.
      Even if you reverse what he said it means the same thing.
      When tenants leave, we replace the carpet.
      We replace the carpet when tenants leave.
      So even if the carpet was immaculate, it's still going to be replaced.So the damage to the carpet is irrelevant.

      @@Mongo76 I would probably agree normally except all of their evidence has been reviewed by the judge before they film and the tape is edited usually also. I’d bet there is something not shown on camera that he submitted showing what it cost and why. As nit picky as she usually is I don’t think he would get away with charging her for carpet if he automatically replaced it anyways.

      because maybe every tenant he has had maybe has done something to the carpet that warrants replacing it? If the burn marks wouldnt have been in the picture, the judge would not have allowed his deposit back... pictures are money makers...

      Well what about her breaking the lease first by having her convict son live with her? Where’s her responsibility in this? She’s not a good mother, she took responsibility for her son who needed supervision per court order and she just let ruin the apartment while she was on holiday in Mexico
