I ordered this knife in all black a couple of days ago. I can’t wait to get it!!! Thank you for the great video!!!🔪🖤🗡
Nice! I hope you like it. Thanks!
@@TheKnifeBeater Got it yesterday. I love it!!! Kudos to Civivi!!! Now they need to make a stonewashed version. Coming soon?🤔
Ordered one this morning! Can't wait! Also ordered the brazen drop point!
@@ksajak Got em both, both great knives!!!
@@BensBladesglad to hear! Or see..lol either way. I see nothing but great things about them. I guess the pocket clip could be better on the cogent from what I've seen people say but we'll see
Just bought one in purple so excited
hope they release an s35 version like the elementum
Yeah, that would be awesome!
I like how you pointed out the mechanisms are hidden within the blade tang. That's such a cool featurr. I'll have to add one of these on the wishlist 😅
Yeah, I agree, it is a pretty cool feature.
It's nice to see some affordable button locks with reversible clips. I just ordered a Cogent, and I think Civivi is releasing a 3inch button lock with thumbstuds in the near future.
Just got mine, all black. Love it!
Great video...thanks.Civivi created an absolute winner with The Cogent!I hope soon they release The Cogent,The Brigand and The Dogma models all with 4 inch blade versions with flipper tabs and button locks and an upgraded steel(even 154CM steel would be great) however 14C28N steel is pretty awesome as you know.
Thank you Barry! I would love to see those with button locks. I'm a big fan of the Brigand and the Dogma with the brass or copper scales is one of my favorite Civivi's.
Gotta agree with the point you made about originality. This knife is definitely in my wheelhouse with that flipper but I'm kind of waiting for something to really jump out at me. I need to cut back a little on knife purchases and have to be selective. Knife buying is a slippery slope. Thanks Jay.
Yeah, I really try to be original on UA-cam, but I'm fooling myself most of the time when I think for a second that something hasn't been done before. You're so right about that slippery slope called knife collecting. It is best to be selective because then we actually use what we buy. Thanks Carmen.
Got the same thing in partial serrated. Love it! If I could change one thing, it’d be a larger displacement for for deployment. Overall it’s an absolutely solid build from Civivi
Yeah, that would help.
Excellent video as always. Your videos are so practical. You’ve convinced me to pick one up. Thanks ❤️
Thanks a lot for your work!💚
Nice to meet you Jay. Feeling the energy brother.
I would like cavivi to design a knife for Jay. Lets see if they care about leftys who give them shout outs no matter what designs they come out with??? Cmon Cavivi, don't disappoint us.
I might buy this, since I just learned that the Buck Marksman is not only out of stock everywhere, but also discontinued, so I’ve been waiting for two months for no reason
Thanx Jay for cool video....I just got my first elementum with black ebony wood and really liking it. Take care.
You bet Ronald. Congrats on the Elementum, I hope you enjoy it!
I am picking up the blackout version Civivi makes great knives for a good price thanks for sharing Jay
You bet, my pleasure. I hope you like yours.
Got mine in today. Awesome knife
Nice!
Just ordered the elementum button lock. Now i want this one too!
Lol! I hear ya there Nathan.
I like it. Would love the one with micarta scales.
I just wish they'd do a stonewash blade with some other handle colors.
👍
Buy two and swap em 🤷🏾♂️
I bought the purple g10. Never owned anything purple before but it was different and seemed to be a cool shade of purple. Will stand out on my knife shelf!!
I will be picking one up before the year is up! Thanks for a great video! Finally a better version of the Elementum lol!
Together with the wooden handle and dam. Riffle the Cogent is Civivis folder of the year !
Great tips about detent play, thanks for sharing.
You bet Jason, hope it helps. Take care.
Definitely a cool one. Did you happen to see that WE is making a premium titanium Elementum with 20CV? I wish they would have made it a frame or liner lock in the mold of the button lock though. It’s a perfect size.
I’m sure they will eventually, they’ve already made like 600 other different versions of that fucking thing. Right now I bet their designers are trying to figure out a way to make a double detent OTF version of the Elementum…😂🙄
Yes the full size button version is almost the perfect size, blade shape etc.
@@Stahlwerk88 You can never have enough choise🤷♂️
Yeah, I'm sure they will eventually release a larger premium version, but it won't happen until they've sold some of the standard size first. That way there's a good chance that the people wanting the larger one will have already purchased the standard size too. I agree with you Brandon, the larger button lock is the perfect size.
I bought the blacked out version. This knife is already a hot seller new release for CIVIVI. I'd like to see this in a non-black stonewash blade with carbon fiber handles, hopefully at the same price point or maybe just a bit more for carbon fiber handles.
Yeah, I'm hoping for that version too.
OMG just saw they have a Green Micarta and Damascus blade!!! Going on my Christmas Wish List!! Thanks Jay!
Lol! Yeah, I might have to get that one too.
Odd that they coated all the blades when using 14C28N. Why coat a Sanvick steel blade. Could understand it more on a high carbon blade or D2. I don't know if it is worth 70 to me. Would have to get one in hand first. That might change my mind. Thanks for sharing this with your thoughts.
Once everyone has already bought a coated version, then they will release a satin or stonewashed one. That seems to be the current trend. Thanks Rick.
I ordered the same one (black blade, jade g10) the day they dropped. I'm glad I did, because I have a hunch these are gonna be hard to keep in stock, at least at first. Especially after DCA basically called it a poor man's Protech Malibu in KnifeCenter's newest video.
I'm sure you're right, they might be scarce for a bit.
Great video!! I just ordered one exactly like yours. Cheers.
Thanks Hector! I really hope you like yours.
Cogent serrated is a must have! I think it's the first serrated button lock offering from Civivi...Bgood
Yeah, I think you're right.
I dig everything about that killer knife!! Blade shape &size along with grind&handle shape. I'm gettin Cogent. Killer blade&killer vid knife bro!!
I hear ya. Thanks Dion!
try it with skiff bearings and titanium pocket clip 🔥
Almost there, I will get the first affordable button lock that has a thumb stud!
Civivi Altus should be out early next year.
Yeah, that will be nice.
I need one of these love Button Locks
Oh yeah, I remember. You and your Orion knives😀
What was the knife you showed at the very end?
I'll have mine in hand tomorrow!
Nice John! I hope you like.
Yup... Thats a great looking knife!!!
Yeah, I'm a fan.
im actually really glad they didnt give this design a trailing point. I think it makes the tip less usable, even if it does look cool.
I hear ya Matthew, that tip can get pretty thin.
I Like that but ive been patiently waiting for the Altus to release.
👍
OK…The Big Three Button Babies. Each is special in its own way. Elementum BL = Button to lock open + lock closed!!! Conspirator = flip open + button to close + Nitro V!!! Cogent = flip open + button to close + 14C28N!!! Thanks for doing this with the “Ghost Jade” version. Like mine.
Nice Jay!
Thank you!
I prefer the D2 of the Strike
👍
Just don’t know why they released the micarta versions with combo edges. Hopefully they release the plain edge versions soon.
I'm pretty sure the plain edge Micarta versions are available now.
I really like this one.
Me too Rusty.
Can anyone tell me what civivi model is on the very top during the size comparison (51 sec)? I’d appreciate it.
Looks like Appalachian Drifter 2 in snakeskin micarta to me.
At least you got the cogent knife, not the cogent 19. Haha
Thank you for sharing the video. Good stuff.
Thank you!
Whooooo! First! Thanks Jay!
Lol! Hey there Wes!🏆
Definitely looks like an improvement from the Elementum Button lock.
Omg yes, much better.
I like everything about it except the detent.
Yeah, I wish it was stronger too.
So which one would you choose The Relic or the Cogent? Can only choose one Jay!
Probably the Cogent. I should do a versus video.
@@TheKnifeBeater definitely!
@@TheKnifeBeater or against the button lock elementum
I bought an Altus. What's better Cogent or Conspirator? New Subscriber Jay...Plz send me some stickers
Wish they made a uncoated blade version with aluminum scales
That would be nice Dad.
It would be cool if WE came out with a titanium version
I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
I have the Protech Tr3 and civivi would have to really be good to be better than the Protech. Since I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices the Malibu is bringing, I'm thinking about grabbing one of these up just to see how the Chinese companies are stepping up their game.
I will be wee understand civivis decision to not throw a flipper or thumb studs on the button lock elementum. I would have bought it immediately if they had either.
I hear ya. I can appreciate trying something different, but there's a reason it hasn't been done before. I guess WE/Civivi is learning that the hard way now.
I ordered a purple one earlier today. Blade HQ had a special, buy a Civivi and get a Civivi hat free.
Nice! Good job getting in on that deal Leland.
I want one!
👍
Mine is in the mail! The only issue with this is they also have a bunch with half serrated blades, and one has burgundy G10 instead of the purple... has CIVIVI done any sort of serrated blade before?
I wound up going with the damascus version because WMK was already sold out of the other plain edge versions. I'll probably grab a purp model later.
I should clarify - the half-serrated versions means they used valuable production capacity making a style of blade that has limited appeal. I guess they will figure that out in the next few months...
You got it right, I would like an un-serrated version with no coating on it.
Yeah, agreed i wont be cutting much bread with it🤣
I don't recall ever seeing a Civivi with a combo blade before, but I have no interest in those, so maybe I'm just blocking it from my memory. You're right though Tim, that version will be discontinued soon enough.
@@TheKnifeBeater they were pretty forward about the serrations being a departure from what we normally like.
I don't think they're going to go crazy on combo edges. I hope.
Also I think the Cogent is heavily inspired by the early framelock designs that WE introduced. The Kitefin with the blue stripe has the same themes
I got the serrated version on the way, not into serrated knives usually but it looks good on this knife....and it was the only one available with green micarta and I didn't want Damascus 🤷♂️
the blade doesn’t look coated in the thumbnail , weird
Yeah, that is odd.
I got excited when I saw that. 😑
I did reposition my lighting recently. Now I have a light that's behind me and off to the side. For you, it would be in the upper right corner of the screen.
The Cogent is very attractive
Wish more knives had saw tooth edge in back at least 5/8th inch in back. If you ever tried to cut an old zip tie in an akward spot you wish you had it. I looked around and bought an Ontario knife company Rat primarily because it had the sawtooth section. . I love a lot of 50 or 60 dollar range knives but sawtooth edges arnt real popular. I hope the makers will include this as it is a real deal breaker for me. I must have a butt load of knives and take the one with saw tooth first. I bought a flipper awhile back and love it. My first Two Sun knife. I got it even tho no sawtooth.
I know that combo blades are beneficial for many tasks. Those benefits would be wasted on someone like myself, but I can totally see how they would be great for zip ties and cordage.
i like the cogent a lot but it's to long, i live in a sub 3 inch area for carry :-(
Aw, that stinks, I'm sorry.
@@TheKnifeBeater what do you think of the civivi pintail? how does it compare to the cogent or the elementum? worth buying?
Want.
👍
Jokes on you, its already on the way to my house!
Nice! Hope you like it.
Got it. Not that impressed. Checkering on the flipper tab is bugging me big time gripping the knife. So does the Clip inside the palm. Maybe the shorter clip Version of the Elementum would solve That for me. Button action is ok. I prefer the Elementum Version for the slimmer and more neutral profile. Cogent is pretty nice with the flippig bonus but not the big winner over all for me personally. But that is personal preference. Others might dig it completely as described in the Video.
Purple one in the mail.
Nice! Enjoy.
ones a drop point, ones a spear point
Boy, I wish, nice knife but, button knives are considered "gravity" knives in my town but it doesn't matter because I'm under a 3" max around here. Guess I got to move, rofl. Actually, in one pocket, I have a small Feldspar in the other a Baby Banter so I'm good.
Yeah unfortunately, this one does limit a certain demographic that can buy it. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually came out with a smaller version though.
Kenneth Howard was VonDutch . The clothes where a rip off of his name. Master machinist and painter. Largely invented or at least made famous, ornamental pinstriping.
Yeah, it's a shame how that all ended up.
I dk man , you sound super critical of a lot of tiny things on every knife , I get it , I loves knives also , but they are tools not a science project lol … 😂😂😂
Just trying to be thorough
Agree on the uncoated blades option. They have then in the WE ranges but then WE prices are high and the designs are too futuristic for me, personally. So might as well buy other reputable brands for both aesthetic, finish, materials
I agree. "futuristic" is a perfect description for some of the WE designs. I own a couple, but I stick with the boring designs like the Practic, Streak, and Bishop.
It’s doubtful that they designed this behind a boker. There are millions of knives. If I designed one right now it would look just like something else garunteed
Yeah, true originality is tough nowadays. The Boker Plus Strike isn't some obscure design that nobody knows about and the fact that they are both button locks doesn't mean anything?
dye your g10:)
Ok👍
Not sure why all the youtubers push Civivi I just returned the civivi elementum button lock. Its sharp as hell but the build quality is flimsy. The micarta scales were so thin if you tightened the 2 rear screws too much it would warp the scale off of the liner. Take a very close look at the button lock where it contacts the rear tang of the blade. The plunger is milled down less than a 1/16 inch this will fail before a liner lock would. Civivi knives are all show and no go. If you want a nice Chinese knife at a cheap price Petrified Fish is a better deal. Civivi - WE knives are over priced.
I partially agree. I was really looking forward to the Riffle and was pretty disappointed when I got it in hand. The micarta is terrible and the access to the liner lock is negligible.
Well, I certainly cannot speak for any other channels, but I only "push" knives that I really like. I'm a big fan of the Petrified Fish Beluga and I have made a few videos about it.
This blade doesn't do it for me personally
fair enough.
CHINESEIUM
Too bad it’s made in China
I dig everything about that killer knife!! Blade shape &size along with grind&handle shape. I'm gettin Cogent. Killer blade&killer vid knife bro!!
So true Dion!I think its their best folder for 2021.I am getting the all blacked out version..Cannot wait!
