Here a year late, but there have been analyses that suggest Sephiroth does not create the explosion. If he could summon a meteor going fast enough to (somehow) make the sun go supernova, why did he go through so much trouble to get the meteor-summoning Black Materia? Rather, Supernova is Sephiroth transporting his enemies to a time and space where such an event is happening.
Sephiroth did not destroy planet X Neptune Uranus Saturn (even though it lost its rings) Mars and Earth (the planet in this game is Gaia which looks identical to Earth)

When I first saw this attack, my Playstation froze. I had to redo that entire section and I was terrible at this game back then as a kid- I barely made it pass Bizarro Sephiroth.
Lvl 99 is the sweet spot. His health increases for an amoumt of like 30000 for any lvl99 characters. So if all your characters are lvl 99 he will have like 450000 health. His health also increases by an enormous amount if you use knights of the round on the previous jenova fight

this fight always went the same for me; exchange attacks for a while until Sephiroth gets pissed and launches the Super Nova... usually by the end of that, Cloud hit his limit and Omni Slash would finish the fight

At this point, the third remake part (should they keep Safer Sephiroth in) would be on Unreal Engine 5 at the very least with all its ray-tracing goodness, among other things. It'll look glorious on PS5 / PS5 Pro.
I remember the first time I beat him after dying to his other forms and this one so many times, I was like, holy shit, is it over? Then you get to the final stage and I was scared I was about to have to go man to man with him, but then it turned around and gave me omnislash right off the bat (which I didn't know even existed the first time I played). Did my first playthrough of this and powerleveled Cloud, Cid, and Vincent to level 99 and gave them an amazing loadout. Killed Safer-Sephiroth so fast he didn't even get to use Supernova lol

I haven't played a FF game other than 7, 8, and 9. But is it a FF thing where the toughest fight in the game is not the end-game boss but the final, avoidable super-weapon? The one in FF8 right before the final boss fight was the toughest FF fight I can remember. Took me several tries.

I always reserved Omnislash as my final attack, just to make it more fit for the story. If the limit gauge is already full, I chose other commands.
