More videos like this! Immediately applicable, and simple chord structure so bass players in church can use it in a bunch of different songs. Maybe 2-5-1 bass licks next?
I must say -- I have over 300 videos on UA-cam featuring the bass in all styles of music. But to be honest, although I've even played a few Gospel gigs (and recorded some Gospel Bands) it was never a style that had a lot of meaning to me. And all those bass runs I'd hear guys played just seemed like sequenced pentatonic licks. But your videos have turned my head around. There's some really unique voicings here and your playing is smooth as silk. (I'm lovin' Licks # 8 &10 ) And you get a better sound out of your Indonesian Music Man than I do! LOL
Self- taught, hung around jazz performance most of my years -- why do I not possess this creativity 😠😡😠 ?! Love your videos and instruction, TD, keep doing what you're doing, sir! Really ooen up the windows of creativity, voicing and expression!
Hi Travis, I love lessons like this. I hate to admit it but this is how I have to learn songs, riffs, licks, etc. I think all of your lessons and lectures are good. I like all of the licks in this lesson but licks 8 and 10 are my favorites. Thank you.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, I have a 5 string bass. IDK, I will stop listening to folks and just practice and shred. 4,5,6,7,8, who cares! if you can rock. LOL
Great vid, like the licks. I got all of them up to the one with the chords. My fingers would not cooperate. I can get the ones after that, but I need to work to get them up to speed. I think I was getting confused by some of the later tabs because they didn't match the rhythms and bars as expected. Would love to see more like this. Thanks!
🎯🎯🎯🎯🎯this is it...the breakdown format and progressions from beginner to advanced - plus downloads?! If you ever decide to dedicate a lesson block/course to gospel bass style I'm all in. Thank for all of the time and effort you put into this.
Please more videos like this! Moreover, if you could even maybe go a layer deeper and explain the "why" behind the licks you're doing, that'd be even more helpful! The last lick you went through sounds great, but getting a little bit of theory on top of what you're doing would really help to drive it home, as well as help to come up with my own similar licks while improvising. Thanks for all you do!
More like this plz learned a lot by practicing this stuff had to cheat number eight it was imposible for me to play with my long scale bass so I had to pick my short scale one
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen in your channel bro: 1. It’s a compilation, all in one place to go. 2. It’s progressive, it’s not just a bunch of challenges but more of a journey. 3. All of them are prime lick… do you have a compilation of all your licks somewhere? I want it hahaha thks
Travis......these licks are 🔥8 9 and 10 are my fav .....lick 9 made me make the ugliest stank lip I could do im definitely practicing these keep it up doc
I like this video. Interesting how you pretty much always use your pinky finer when playing the octaves. I never noticed how much you do that. I do that once in a while, but I usually use my middle finger. My pinky finger isn't as "trained" as I would like. lol
Wow,❤ that's amazing tutorial content, Thanks so much. BTW, I don't get what it has to do with gospel ? gospel for me is like rhythmic church singing. What it inspire me is more like something I could call funk jazz rock ?

context is always my main issue personally

Thank you for playing these licks with a four-string because many of us don't have a five-string, and it's nice to play along with my instrument.

The ONLY thing I would ask is if you could name the notes or numbers in the scale if possible. Other than that, this video is perfect for all levels!
