  • In this video I address the "cult mentality" that has taken over the Marital arts community since 1993 and the advent of the UFC. I point out that the problem is the narrative and that narrative has been shaped by a general group of WHITE, AFFLUENT and UNDER 30 and AMERICAN males.

    I have read I think from Roberto Pedreira that MMA could be considered a modified form of wrestling. Made sense to me...

    What's crazy is that the first couple of UFC didn't even list wrestling as a style for wrestlers like ken shamrock and dan severn.Goes to show how much they tried to push BJJ by burying the same martial arts that helped shape it.

    TO THIS FORUM: Fighters like Galvao and Garcia had limited STRIKING and that ALSO resulted in losing in MMA. YES! Their GRAPPLING was better than most, but did not "spill over" as well because they did not, like so many, develop better stand up.

      Hey Sayf I completely agree with you wrestling is definitely the more important skill because it dictates where the fight goes, never the best idea to play guard for long unless you wanna get smashed, better to sweep or scramble to top position/stand back up, and I watched your video on best grappler in mma frank shamrock amazing active guard, where do you rank khabib and Damien Maia?

      My brother ,My brother that was some good stuff, I can not wait for part 2. Its funny you mentioned this because you and I spoke on this last week about Danher. Again I have no beef with him or the death squad team but I'm tired of BJJ culture trying to dedicate combat sports. These butt flopping guys are crazy. I mentioned to you that I have a small training group in my garage and my 16 year old son put a whipping on on the kids at the BJJ tournament. They are from quote credible schools while we come from a garage and my baby boy did well against them. The culture is becoming a modern-day JKD. All they do in the gi is hold.

My real feelings are salty because these dudes call Danher and the BJJ community kings of combat and people like me they would call a Mc Dojo. From talking to some old school heads and remembering certain things growing up, what is known today as ju jitsu was not traditional ju jitsu, back then. From what I understand it was more standing, but included a lot of joint locks. After Bjj came on the scene, instead of being known as just bjj, it was ju jitsu after a period of time. Anyone in the hood, knows the last place you want to be is on your back. Great video. Sorry if my comment might not be relative to the video, but it reminded me of that.

    Hey Sayf i do agree with you, even in the floor wrestlers grOund and pound is a game changer. but for arguments sake I would like to push back with one example. Askren vs Maia. I honestly thought Askren was going to win it with ground and pound as he did with so many others. Maia could not out wrestle him so I felt he was toast. And to no ones surprise maia endend up in bottom. Yet…Maia submitted him…so what`s your opinion about that particular fight?

    • @TheUmmahFightCamp
      @TheUmmahFightCamp  3 роки тому +2

      Guill Raj So: Ok lol. But the example you gave me is the same one everybody gives. ONE example when the UFC alone puts on hundreds of fights a year? Dude, you have to be reaching. To put further dirt on it. Maia is one of the most decorated BJJ fighters! If you told anyone that you would spend 200 a month on the strength of ONE high profile fight where a bjj guy beat a wrestler, you would be called crazy. If you could be promised to win ONE fight at the price of 200 per month for a year, you would do it? I hope not. That fight does not cancel the blood left on the canvas from Ground and Pound mastery of the greatest MMA fighters of all time who are and were wrestlers.

      @@TheUmmahFightCamp fair enough, as I said, in general i agree with you. Yeah, bjj has a ton marketing involved . But I try to check with people that have more experience than me, such as yourself.
      One of the guys I sometimes listen to is firas zahabi. He mentioned in his podcast that most of the times wrestlers dominate bjj guys is because of much superior stand up and striking, not to mention that most bjj guy couldn`t take down a wrestler if their life depended on it. But if they hit the ground bjj guys have the advantage. I`m not sure I agree. I feel punches on the ground change the whole game and I feel he is biased in favor if bjj. But because of his experience I do respect his opinion.
      At first I did not understand the 200 per month comment. I`m actually Mexican and live in Mexico. (sorry for any spelling and grammar mistakes) I did not know bjj was that expensive in the US! I did find a bjj school here, it`s way cheaper than in the US but still I wanted to do wrestling and judo as my main grappling arts (I`m 38 so I`m a bit cautious about doing something so demanding, don`t know it my body could take it), but it`s been almost impossible to find. I guess in the States is different but here in Mexico it`s very difficult to find a wrestling club. it`s not so embedded in Mexican tradition (probably lucha libre`s fault), in here you can find a ton of boxing and some kick boxing and other striking arts for adults. You can find Judo and tae kwon do but both are mostly practiced by kids and teens. Very difficult to find a class for adults.
      At some point I would like to pick your brain for advice on how to start wrestling and judo as an adult. (I may have to find people to train it with me at a “garage”, considering the lack of clubs and classes.)
      Thanks for your knowledge. I find your videos very interesting

    The UFC was a laboratory for fighting in the beginning. It seems as if "they" want actual fight skills to diminish. Anymore of the masters from back then. The study must not die
