As an American it absolutely baffles me that your government requires you to have a license to own something which could not reasonably maim or kill another person. I’m fully convinced they’ve made that law solely because they can be made to look like real firearms.
And it's an indiscriminate law. Even toy looking ones require registration in South Australia.

I thought I was hard done by living in the UK, until I heard about the ridiculous laws in Australia.
I have all 7 different types of replica firearms here in the UK:
Nerf
Gelsoft
Airsoft
Airgun
Paintball
P.F.C. model gun
P.A.K. blank Gun
I need a legal exemption to own realistic coloured replicas, which I have as a registered airsoft skirmisher, but this only applies to the following replica types:
Airsoft
P.F.C.
P.A.K.
And possibly Gelsoft, as the laws on Gelsoft are still a bit of a grey area here.
The others are available providing you can prove you're over 18.
I now feel rather lucky to live where I do, even though I'm still aggravated by the stupid laws...
Compared to Australia, I'm well armed lol.
Compared to the USA, I own mere toys lol.
The stupidity of these laws is unmitigated, and utterly preposterous, even in the UK.
I can legally shoot a 22. short cal Winchester 62A pump action firearm at a fairground, in front of Police stood 10 feet away...
However, if a friend owned such an item, I would not be allowed ANYWHERE near it, or its ammunition...
Or I, and the owner of the gun would be prosecuted for pathetic firearms violations.
The 22. Short round is so quiet, it doesn't even require hearing protection.
This is pretty much the only type of firearm caliber we are allowed with an F.A.C., unless you want 12 inch barrel, and a wrist counter weight from the grip.
Essentially to make it unconsealable.
Yet the criminals, including those in government, and on the streets, can have and do whatever they see fit.
And no one gives a DAMN.
If governments were genuine, they would target the criminals who would use these items for unlawful means...
Instead of targeting law abiding citizens, who have NO intention of committing a criminal act.
Which only goes to prove, that this has nothing to do with them trying to protect you an I from each other...

It's about the criminal governments making sure THEY are the only ones with real weapons, so they can dominate us when ever they see fit.
This also goes for the USA, where they constantly do anything they can to disarm the public, to make them easier to dominate.

for me personally i think short dart blasters with a decent bearing scar are way more fun compared to gelball blasters and somehow even airsoft. the cartoonish looks of foam dart blasters are more exiting to my eyes compared to firearm replicas. i prefer the looks of my fully decked out orange nexus pro with 210FPS vs my Custom ICS Airsoft AR15 with 300FPS using 0,36g BBs. Just looks more fun and it requires more from me as a player to dominate then simply aim and shoot 70m in a straight line with a well tuned hopup and high grade BBs
I felt in love with these type of guns and shooting. Srsly I have tried ASG, paintball etc. But these short dart high fps nerf blasters are amaaaaaaaazing.
I didnt know "nerf" competes against gel blasters i thought gel dominated at cqb and mid range which i was correct but i didnt know you can somewhat effectively reach far with a half dart while gel cant.

For some update, gel blaster is legalised in SIngapore and China. Only replica firearm like gel blaster is banned in Singapore. Those scientific looking gel blaster are sold widely in toy shops in Singapore. While in China replica firearm like Gel blaster are legal to own in China as long as the joule are within limit and no brandishing such toy in public. There are revival of private gel blaster gamefield in China mall or outfield and professional gel blaster playing clubs in China.

In Indonesia, airsoft is still easy to get, it's just because of some people's bad actions. the rules for owning airsoft are getting stricter...and registration is mandatory

As a provider of gel blaster in USA, gel blasters are good for CQB, that’s why M4, SLR, ARP9 etc are more common models for gel blasters.
Though with harden gel balls, 25-30 seems to be the limit for gel blasters. For snipers, probably better pick a nerf which shoots more precisely with long distance.
I love these comparison vids, and it's cool how nerf has gotten so strong that it can go head to head against a gel blaster...

Contemplating this as a training aid. Currently my go to is the Mantis Blackbeard since it’s a drop in conversion on my home defense AR. My issue is finding a satisfactory target system. The Mantis laser academy app isn’t ideal as it requires a phone for each instance of a target and requires setup. I am in the process of attempting to develop a standalone target system that uses the same principals as laser academy and similar apps to detect and score laser dots on a target, but it’s complex. In the meantime, I just ordered an Australian system called Virtual Shot, which also uses your phone, but more as an augmented reality portal that goes on your pic rail. In addition to solo training, it would be extremely fun to run clearance drills in my house and barn workshop with friends, and having to sweep up BBs isn’t an attractive proposition.
I’m torn between going to Walmart and getting the gel blasters they have in stock and actually ordering one that’s an accurate M4 clone that I could easily modify to be near 1 to 1 of my AR I built from the stripped lower receiver up.

3:49 I can't help thinking these bird calls in the background sound a lot like the bioraptors in Pitch Black, which would be appropriate since both this video and Pitch Black were shot in South Australia.
I have owned both though never really got into either. It seems Nerf is cheaper, easier to mod, more consistent in range and accuracy where as Gel Blasters whilst more expensive have high FPS right off the bat, amazing rate of fire and look realistic.
Great vid Brad, being in Vic has taken me off gel blasters and into Nerf but now feel free to plink at home with Rival and dart blasters, biggest downside between gel blasters and dart or Rival is picking up the ammo especially Rival they bounce everywhere, have made up special backstops with hanging towels to absorb the bounce, seems to work well.
Keep up the dart blaster vids, really enjoy them.
One thing though if we order these blasters from OS, will customs seize them like gel blasters?
It's hit or miss whether customs seize a Nerf blaster, but realistic looking ones seem to be their main focus.
The thing is flywheel blasters can easily get to 220 FPS with some brushless setups getting to 300 and over, although they're expensive. Now with those bearing barrel attachments it might be that they will work with flywheelers and give them the same kind of accuracy. There are also some AEGs (or motorised springers) coming from China that can hit 150 FPS (for now). There are still ways to improve foam blasters.
A Nerf blaster doesn't have 1000 shots in the mag though. So while you might blow your load in a second or two with a flywheel blaster, a gel blaster will keep on shooting.

Some of Australia’s rules are so shit
Here in the US, many nerf wars are played in public areas, which rules out mixed games with airsoft or gel ball even if those bb blasters are toy-looking as most localities have ordinances banning airsoft and paintball play in public.
It simply isn't common here to play mixed games. Airsofters just aren't interested, and honestly the nerf community is plenty happy to not deal with the airsoft crowd in their wars as airsofters.
You have gel blasters sold on the shelf at Walmart now as kids toys.

Great video as always. Was wondering what style of scope would you recommend for a 300fps nerf build? Not sure whether to just stick a red dot on it or get something with a touch of magnification.
for 35m i simply use a cheap chinese red dot sight (this iconic oldschool design with different reticules to choose from on a wheel in the back) simply because you can easily adjust the height/angle even for only 200FPS blasters to said range out of the box. i think magnification is not a good idea for the effective range of dart blasters. maybe 1.5x at max

I own a Daniels Defense AR15 with about 21,000 rounds of ammo.
3 pistols with about 10,000 rounds of ammo.
6 shotguns with about 18,000 rounds of ammo.
11 airsoft mixed between some snipers, ARs and pistols.
Now I am a proud owner of 2 Gel Blasters after watching your videos.
All are fun to shoot but for some reason I’m finding myself shooting the gel blasters more than anything 😂
Maybe it's the less hassle to worry about cleaning them up, and very cheap ammo?
@@BradleyPhillipsYT yea that very well could be it. I do have a special target that catches airsoft bbs behind it so the cleanup for that isn’t bad at all. My girlfriend also doesn’t get as mad at me shooting her with a gel blaster compared to airsoft. Beings my gel blaster only has like 260 fps compared to my 430 fps airsoft 😂
@@CamoDC4L gel ball is capable of shooting the same velocities as Airsoft, just a lot of the USA releases are targeted at lower velocity users who don't want to play Airsoft. I think they also don't hurt as much since they compress on impact.

Technically nerf would be illegal in Ireland because we have a 1 joule limit on anything that discharges a projectile from a barrel. The nerf blaster is shooting over 1 joule at 300fps. However I doubt it would be enforced in the case of a nerf gun
i watch these videos just to look at the realistic looking gel blasters.. i buy the cheap ones like the m416 and they are hecka fun..
hey, just a curiosity i wanted to see what it looked like getting shot from this blaster at such range. it's already quite insane to me how accurate and far range these foam blaster have compared to my nerf branded triad.
It would leave a small red mark that fades in a day or so

Highly unlikely. There's too many idiots in NSW. (I live in NSW) But I'm being serious. In my opinion, if it was legalised in NSW, it would make headlines for all the wrong reasons. Dont get me wrong, I think it should be here. But having to get a licence to play or purchase could deter those interested for the wrong reasons.

What's missing from this video is discussion of the loss of energy over increasing distances as well as how it FEELS to receive an impact.
It definitely hurts more to be hit by an individual Nerf dart, being full autoed at close range with gel ball can hurt similarly but in a different way. As for loss of energy over distance, gel balls tend to lose their energy much faster than Nerf do.

I usually use it at 1x magnification and I mostly got it for the top picatinny mount where I can mount my Runcam Scope Cam
You can get cheaper ones that do equal job for $60 to $80
@@Sillysillylittleman I grew up (I'm in my mid 50's) around real rifles with good quality scopes with great optics. It's true re cheaper scopes being available, I have one that I purchased for $90, it is fine but I have to re zero it all the time and the optics (lens) are definitely of lowish quality. The vibrating of the blaster knocks the zero out. They're cheaper for a reason. I've seen a few vids of people using the Novritsch scope (99 euros or $150 in AUD) on real steel rifles including a Dragunov, AK and AR 15 etc and the zero stays true also the optics are of a good quality.....hence the extra $60 in cost.
So to does the gel blaster at all fell like getting hit like a paintball?
Are those darts Worker Gen. 3? If so, how do they hold up? And how do they compare to DZP darts in terms of durability?
I have Gen. 2 darts, but they fall apart every time I use them, I even tried gluing them, but with no success. For the same price I can buy 100 DZP darts or 200 Worker Gen 3 darts, which should I choose?

Just out of curiosity what makes an airsoft gun illegal in Australia/other countries? If it's strictly the milsim/replica factor, does that mean if they were to manufacture airsoft internals into more nerfy/bright sci-fi looking toys, would you be allowed to play with them? Or woulf the fact that it fires a hard plastic 6mm projectile class it as airsoft/an illegal firearm?

@@BradleyPhillipsYT Dzps and diamond heads are more accurate. As well from my experience they hurt less due to the lighter weight and more smushy head
Next week's video will challenge your belief on that. 400fps blaster hitting a 60M target reliably.

The main advantage of HPA gel is you can get rate of fire up to 50rps and basically choose any velocity you want from 300-450fps. The accuracy doesn't really increase compared to AEG.

@@BradleyPhillipsYT fair enough, i took the plunge and got a polarstar F2 and that's in my aps noveske 7.94 sbr in the standard aps gearbox and just recently got a jack and that's in a mk tactical hpa gearbox in my hl-015 honey badger, im bloody wrapped with how lite this build is and running a 25cm 7.3mm stainless barrel so she's a bit more stumpy now

I don't see any reason that HPA would be more accurate. Higher velocity may reach further though.
Any well tuned replica can reach out and touch something at 40m but it will take a lot of fine adjustment and skill.
Also a bit of luck due to wind and other limiting variables..

300fps nerfs are definately illegal in china, where everything above 1.8J/cm^2 is illegal, and gel is kinda in the gray, in which GBB gel blasters are illegal and electric gel blasters are barely legal.

Bloody hell, mate, and I thought we germans had in rough in that regard... at least we get AirSoft and PCP Air Rifles (are those legal for you?), albeit limited to max 7.5 Joule muzzle energy.
Air Rifles are legal, although with a license. It's the difference that one is for hunting and one is a replica that the government doesn't like.
Oddly enough we have paintball here but not Airsoft and that hurts a lot more.

You don't control the Gel Blaster fire and aim it reasonably enough to hit the targets accurately, although Gel Blaster does have a low power on the ground compared to a NERF gun.
iv done a 75 metre shot and tagged a player. massive fluke of a shot and the blaster was on a 45 degree angle

When Airsoft was banned there weren't a whole lot of people playing it yet because it was new. With no resistance they were easily able to ban it. Gel ball has been played for years prior to government regulation.

Airsoft shoots a 6mm plastic BB. Gel balls are 7mm hydrated Orbeez.

Full length darts are horrible, neither higher velocity or better accuracy than half lengths

In Ohio, USA we have nothing for Nerf around me minus some kids stuff at party centers. I cannot seem to find anything for Gel Blasters either. Everything is Airsoft here. Which sucks. I enjoy small nerf wars in the yard with my kid. Wouldn't mind having something bigger to justify a build.

Мне же как русскому, периодически просматривающему те же обзоры и тесты экипировки и оружия/игрушек от западных коллег - приходиться пользоваться Siri, чтобы она переводила мне футы/ярды/унции/FPS/pounds и прочие имперские единицы. Может быть мне только лишь кажется, но по-моему гораздо удобнее когда твои системы исчисления приравнены к одному "знаменателю" (системе координат). Когда ты расстояние измеряешь в метрах и скорость на хронографе так же в метрах в секунду. Единственное пожалуй, что мы используем на практике это дюймы (стандарт резьб, сантехнических изделий, диагонали мониторов) и угловые минуты для поправок в оптических прицелах...на остальное хватает литров/граммов/килограммов и так далее. Даже центнер и дециметр практически не используются в обиходе, проще сократить до тонн/метров.
