  • I was overcharged a total of $291 on eBay over the past 90 days for Fedex labels. All sellers should check and see if they have been overcharged the same way I was. I discuss what I did to check and how I resolved it.

FedEx & UPS will always bill the higher of the dimensional weight vs the actual weight. FedEx is charging you correctly. EBay is showing you the rate of the actual weight instead of the dimensional weight charges which is what FedEx will actually charge you. I will give you an example......I use a 9x8x4 box......the actual weight of only 12 ounces......the billable weight will be 4 lbs....the eBay system will only quote you the 1 lb rate. Check your manifest......that is probably what is going on. USPS is still the better option.

I just found this a little too late. i have been overcharged an average of $18 per package on about 4 packages and less on some others since i started using ebay labels in October. Ebay is NO HELP and tell you to call fedex and fedex can't do anything because as you know, ebay is the shipper of record. It's a total scam. I only used fedex because USPS was taking 20+ days to deliver priority mail in some cases. Ebay was giving a huge discount on fedex, or so I thought, only to be overbilled. The fedex lady yesterday said "it looks like we charged $7 because we had to hand sort your package". I said, ok, even if I believed that, it was $18 more. She said yes, that is for hand sorting. I said you just said $7. She said it is $7 for a total of $18. I said this is fraud. If you had to hand sort it, that's your problem. I ship everything the same way and you didn't do this with other packages. So then I sent to my fedex store. He told me last night that I should go back to the sort center that is behind the office location and ask about it. i didn't do that because I've been back there before and I can never find someone to let me in the door. He said "they like to tack on money for various things". I am mortified that ebay/fedex are getting away with this and this is not new. I've been a seller for 22 years on ebay and I use fedex on and off and there is always a billing issue. When I shipped for 25 years through my job, I really didn't have issues like this. A class action needs to be started as I have the proof. EBAY DOES NOTHING TO HELP.

Thanks for the heads up on FedEx. I’ve read or heard of FedEx changing the price of the shipping after it’s in the system but not in reference to eBay. Well, now it with eBay too. I noticed on the bottom of the eBay shipping list a disclaimer from eBay “* USPS label costs include any charges for insurance, Delivery Confirmation, and Shipping Confirmation. FedEx label costs are an estimate and include transportation costs, fuel surcharges, and additional surcharges.” Possibly this is not so much the fault of eBay but primarily with FedEx.... although if eBay is including FedEx as a shipping option then they should go to bat for us with FedEx. An acceptable solution would be a retroactive rebate to all eBay sellers that used FedEx for all the re-priceing.

I drop my fedex packages off at fedex office as well and get a receipt, however the weight and dimension issues are not happening at fedex office. This information is coming from fedex hubs and local stations as packages go through fedex network. When a package goes through fedex conveyor system and barcode label is scanned, packages weight and dimensions are recorded. Now there can be discrepancies based upon how a fedex facility maintains there equipment.

Lord, this just happened to me. SO PISSED. Why is eBay letting this happen to us. It’s 2023 and still happening.
Fedex billed me an extra $40 with a whole list of BS fees added to the $21 the buyer paid. My weight wasn’t disputed they added a BS laundry list, including gas, Halloween, and other nonsense. What’s making me angrier is the fact that the representative acted like “what are you talking about ?” when obviously they know full well Fed Ex is notorious for doing this to vendors. We need a class action. Oh and that package arrived damaged. All this weeks earnings went to cover this BS. The representative said I would get a credit within 10 business days. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Keep checking for any promised credits and call them back if you don’t receive it. It’s funny because i had a meeting with the local Fedex rep in my area. They were really trying to get my business back with free daily pickups however he couldn’t promise me those extra charges would go away. Now in my case it was due to the way i package my items using the box in the bag. If it’s over 5 inches high you can only use a box with Fedex or they will hit you with a surcharge.

FedEx uses dimensional weight as the billable weight. The dimensional weight is normally higher than the actual weight. Hence, the FedEx charges come in higher than expected. UPS & FedEx bill all packages based on the dimensional weight formula. If you enter the actual weight, the actual dimensional weight charge will be billed to you later. There systems are incredibly accurate!!! Everyone is expecting the special rate from the actual weight. If you enter the dimensional weight, I guarantee you a different quotation will appear on the screen. Fed Ex uses Dimensional Weight. Always go by the measurements of the packages as your calculated shipping estimate. Current DIM Weight Formula: L x W x H = Total Divide total by 139 = actual weight Fed Ex uses.
I weigh the actual package being shipped & use the actual weight when shipping to my customer.

I have over 900 listings last week a hundred and fifty went from calculated to free shipping magically I had it switched back by ending and relisting and got credit for the shipping labels for what sold as free listing. Then it happened again about three days later with around 95 listings. Then it happened again this morning with the hundred and eleven listings. Then it happened again an hour after that with another hundred listings. I'm spending a lot of time ending and relisting and I'm going to have to get that credit for listing fees as I have had to relist over four hundred items because of the known free shipping glitch. I have to keep a constant eye on my store to make sure that there are no listings that say free shipping. It makes it hard to leave because if it switches while I'm gone then the vultures come in and start scooping up my stuff at a loss.

I wrote to Ebay for business and they said that they would get in touch with Fed Ex but told me that they would give me a credit for that amount to use on Ebay. I never got any more news about it and didn't really pursue it any further after that.. but I was very hesitant to use Fed Ex for a few mos Then of course when I had a really heavy package that was going to cost half of what it would cost to ship USPS I figured that I would give them another chance. I just now checked the 10 or so Fed Ex Deliveries ( because I normally don't ship very heavy items) and found that I am almost always higher by about .10 or less so I guess Ebay has been crediting me which is a good thing... If I am 14.5x 12.5x 10.5, my numbers will go in as 15x13x11 and if it is 11lb 8oz it goes in as 12, if it is 11lb 12oz I will make it 13 assuming their equipment might be out of calibration, so with that for them to say that I am 2 lb's over and 6 inches larger (that's what she said, lol), then I hate to accuse but that is starting to appear to be more intentional then bad calibration.

The manager of fedex tell me they know it's not right but they do it anyway. They clearly tell me i can use another carrier and doesn't care if i stop to ship with fedex.
