It definitely made it easier that lap cars could start up front but even then he had to beat the best cars of the day. Nowadays you couldn’t do that and would have to take a bunch of wave arounds. But imo this is the 2nd greatest comeback. Nothing beats bill elliot being 2 down and coming back all under green

incorrect. Jeff won the 2005 Daytona 500.
Lolz. Jimmie won at Las Vegas and Jeff won the 500 in 2005 before this win.

This one looked to be Tony Stewart's, but his wheel came off and allowed Jeff Gordon to win. Tony Stewart would win the next year in 2006, though when Jeff failed to get going on the last restart. That was a tough loss.
Totally forgot about his Martinsville performances in '06, I don't know if I can definitively say this was Tony's race or not because Jeff spent so much time trying to make up the laps he lost. I mean he did earn two laps back the hard way AND pulled away from the leaders so that should tell you right there just how good he was.
Yeah, this car is the same he won the two Martinsville races in '03 so its pretty good.
Probably should have won in the Spring of '04 had he not run over a huge piece of concrete. Thanks NASCAR and Martinsville Speedway, ugh.
Yeah no, even when Jeff was laps down he was putting busses on Tony when Tony was leading.
