Nothing better than time in nature. This was a very nice watch. You are lucky to have all this beautiful nature to enjoy. This time of year is so peaceful in the forest. Have a wonderful day 😊😊😊
We have hundreds of thousands of acres to explore in this area. I do consider myself very fortunate to live here. I’ll never live long enough to see every place I want to see. I frequently spend a whole day out in the woods and never see another human being. I love the peacefulness and tranquility. Thanks my friend. Take care.
I was caught out there when that storm hit in late May. I thought I was going to be spending the night until they got enough of the blown over trees cleared out of the road so myself and several others could get home. After almost a 7 hour wait I was very appreciative of them! Now they have cleared miles and miles of trails. Hats off to them! Take care WOY.
The damage from the storm was spread out for several miles, both width and length. Indian Rockhouse is one of the bigger rockhouses in BSF but definitely not the biggest. There are several larger ones off trail that few people know about. Thanks Jim. Take care and be safe.
Big South Fork is endless. I hike off trail in cooler weather to find the hidden gems of the area. Many of them have never been documented. Those explorations are the most rewarding. You never know what you’ll find! Thanks nationalparksprincess. Please take care and be safe.
It’ll never look the same in our lifetimes, that’s for sure. I wonder how much damage was done over in Wolf River country. We need to make another trip over there soon. Thanks Jimmy. Take care brother.
I seen you out Saturday as I was wrapping up my run on Fork Ridge. Big thing with the wood is it’s by permit only through big south fork. Rangers will check that if they see people getting any. Sawmill to slave falls is clear, definitely a lot of trees down in the area. Couple trees went down again from Needle Arch to Jakes place. Twin Arches loop had several more trees go down lately. The things caught up in other trees are slowly falling. Definitely a lot of history to be told from the area. My great grandparents homestead at Charit, great uncles lived off of fork ridge before the park service took it over. Slowly I’m catching more stories of the area from the last.
I actually thought for a moment about offering you a tide but I figure that’s the last thing a trail runner would want. That’s like cheating on your run. If there’s a next time wave me over if you need a break and we’ll chat a bit. Your history runs deep in the Station Camp Creek Valley. If you want to know a lot more I can put you in touch with someone who knows an encyclopedia full of information from down there. You would undoubtedly be related to him. Take care Justin. Hopefully our paths will cross again someday.
that was a good bit of damage!! you were lucky you didn't get caught away from your vehicle that day. but if you spend any time in the woods that's bound to happen. been caught out a few times myself. take care Randy.
I’ve been caught out in storms before but this one was just different. I could hear it coming from a good distance. Nothing to do but put on the rain gear, put my head down and hike on. It definitely could have been worse. Thank you Mike. Take are my friend.
I thought that cemetery name was odd as well. I read it was also called Thompson at one time. There was a church by it but burned and never rebuilt. Thought about walking to bluff line behind it but never did. Maybe a rockhouse behind it?
As bad as the storm was I never felt I was in great danger. I had a calm feeling the whole day. I do believe I had a protector looking out for me. I can’t explain it but I felt it. My Grandmother used to say “All’s well that ends well”. No complaints from me! Thank you jilletta. Take care and be safe.

Always such beautiful areas! We always appreciate the hard work of the trail maintainers!

Storm did a little bit of damage there. We got a Sawmill trail here too. Awesome Rockhouse! Nicely done my friend!

Always a nice hike. Landscape is scarred forever from those May storms.

There were several Thompson names on headstones in that cemetery. I never knew about the church.
Thanks my friend.
God was protecting you that day for sure. Tree down, can't go that way. Another tree down, stay right there.
