If You enjoy this Candlebox song also check out "You" and "Cover Me"
Save you simple plan
This song was written for Andy Wood who OD’d. He was in Mother Love Bone and great friends with Seattle’s grunge bands, including AIC, Pearl Jam andSoundgarden. The song, “ Say Hello To Heaven” by Temple of the Dog was also about Andy (Pearl Jam and Soundgarden member mix band), I know you’ll absolutely love that song and highly recommend it if you haven’t heard it yet.
Candlebox had a rough road and got accused of trying to imitate other grunge bands from Seattle, which wasn’t true, toured til they almost collapsed, rushed album 2 and it was a flop. It’s a shame, I think they rocked hard and the singer has such an emotive voice.
Peace gorgeous! 💜🎵💜
Song still brings me to tears. RIP Andy! Was a fun time growing up here watching all those cats play
Yes I totally agree with you they were such a great band, she needs to listen to Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns Rip Andy thanks for your amazing talent 🙏
To Andy!
also "Would?" by Alice in the Chains
I was thinking that's who this song about. Man, Chloe Dancer and Crown of Thorns still resonates with me and I'm turning 57 this Fall.
"You" by Candlebox is GREAT.
If I can pick ONE song of my teen years this would be it. I was 14 when this hit and even now as a 42 yr old I still get the same feeling when I hear it but different mindset. And your right it was personal for the singer.
Candlebox is a great band. I saw them again a few years ago and they are still fantastic. The singer Kevin took the time to meet the fans that stayed after their concert. He was so nice. 🖤🤘
The song is about Andy Wood. He and the lead singer (died of an overdose) were roommates at one point in the Seattle music scene. The song "Would?" by Alice In Chains is also about the same singer. The entire Temple of the Dog album was a tribute.
"Cover Me" is another great song by Candlebox.
The memories this song brings back…
Kevin Martin has a great voice. My favorite song by them is "You". Also about drugs. Great reaction as always.
Seattle music seen was a bunch of group that where very tight. They all hung out together. worked together. Great time in tthe 90's
Devastating song that penetrates to the core. Madonna loved these guys and signed them to her Maverick label. I usually watch this 3-4 times in a row.
Most people watch you suffer. Either they feel helpless or they just don't care
Think you’ll really like “Rain” and also probably my favorite besides this one is “Cover Me”
Also try “It’s Allright” as well as “You” and “Change.”
Might also try Puddle of Mud’s “Blurry”
Rain is a must! She would love it so much!
Rain most definitely!
You MUST listen and watch the video to “You.”
I met this guys dad and hung out with him all night at a concert a couple years ago . He didn’t tell me this was his son until the end of the night . It was pretty cool . Great times .
Candlebox is a highly underrated band. They have some great albums that people need to check out. They're still together and rockin' just as hard as they ever did.
'Far Behind' was written about Mother Love Bone singer, Andy Wood, who died of a heroin overdose in 1990. I know you've listened to Temple Of The Dog, which was also a tribute to Andy Wood. Three of those members in Dog would go on to form Pearl Jam. The point is, the music is all connected. That music being Grunge. Candlebox was part of that scene, having hailed from Seattle as well.
Here are some other great songs from that first album that featured 'Far Behind' that you should listen to, Jay.
'You,' 'Cover Me,' 'Mother's Dream,' and 'Change.'
I sat up so fast when I saw the title!! Love Candlebox. This has been in my top 10 favorite songs for years 🔥🤘💜
Saw these guys years ago in a small club about 400 people and this song was amazing live.
Such a great rock ballad with a deep personal message. Love the guitar solo in the middle! 😎👍
GREAT song by Candlebox. LOVE Mother Love Bone. RIP, Andy
They were such an amazing, underrated band. I feel like in the 90's they had a great following, but then Nirvana and Pearl Jam, Janes addiction, etc, they almost seem to overshadow them. But those who loved Candlebox stayed . I used to listen to "You" over and over again. and later "Glowing Soul"..
I've known about this song for years and I'm only just listening to the lyrics.. and bawling my eyes out 😖😭
This is from one of the greatest albums from the ‘90s. I would put it up against any album ever made to be honest.
A very good album for sure but little strong don't you think?
Let's stack this up beside Appetite for destruction....only the best selling debut album of all time.
And they lose thanks for comming out
@@mikespurrell5107 this album is way better than Appetite for Destruction lmao
@@42faticus sure man keep dreaming you know squat about music
@@mikespurrell5107 lol I don’t know squat about music because I don’t like Guns N Roses gotcha
@@42faticus It has nothing to do with liking them it has to do with knowing something about music.
You don't have to like them to admit they were better musicians but the proof is right there in black and white numbers don't lie this is about stacking candlebox debut album against the best selling debut album of all time, technically those boys are just ....far behind
This album was SOLID and very underrated. More from this LP please! Might as well dabble in some CREED too #weathered #America
It was a year ago today that my sister went into the hospital and died four days later. This song, coming out of nowhere after over 20 years, brought back the pain and frustration of watching her life crumble, though not from drugs, and everyone in her life throwing her away, could not or did not see that she really needed them. All she had left was me, and all I could do was watch it happen and try to help her live with it, as I had no material means to help her. So, you can just imagine how many feelings I got out in the last few minutes listening to this. And on top of that, I love this song, simply forgot about it for a couple of decades.
You nailed it, and no, not about a girl. It's a tragically beautiful song written about a friend the lead singer lost to an OD. Candlebox is still touring, and the lead singer still sounds great. You were clearly immersed in the emotion and intensity in his voice...not a request, but treat yourself to the live version of this on David Letterman...it's cut a verse or 2 short prob due to TV programming time, but the lead singers vocal is stunning...the intensity here multiplied. I don't make the rounds of my fav reaction channels regularly, I'll give them a break and let them reload then binge watch for a day of all new, lol, or I'll refer to a fav song of it hits the mood then binge watch reactions to it, so here we are, and your reactions are always a fav...you're a beautiful young lady, but a fav because of your inner beauty of your heart and soul...and when you are moved it's so wholesome and pure, and relatable. Always demand the best, and never settle for less. Take care
“Far Behind,” now often taken at first listen as a lost love song, looked back on with regret, is actually about a dear friend of Martin’s, Andy Wood, singer of the co-Seattle band Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone.
Martin and Wood had been friends for many years, but when Wood began using heroin, their friendship took a turn for the worst. Martin would go on to neglect their friendship and say things he would regret and push Wood away. Which is where the chorus in “Far Behind” would get its context. Martin never initially told anyone the song was about Wood, and no one would know the difference, since he changed the lyrics, last minute during the recording session. And with only twelve hours to record in the studio, the new lyrics stood. You nailed the meaning!! Love your channel!!
Candlebox is the most under rated band of all time.
Classic !!!
Candlebox - You is their best song .
One of the best songs of that initial "Grunge" era. I don't like that categorization, it is what it is I guess. That emotional vocal and guitar work are first rate!
Thanks Jayy!
Yes Jayy i agree his voice is great 😍
It's about Andrew Wood from the band Mother Love Bone. Makes me cry every time. Heroine and Seattle don't mix well....
This whole album is amazing!
Indeed. My favorite song is "Change" with "Cover Me" a close second.
Awesome song.
One of the most underrated bands...this song is about addiction and not being able to help...I lost my sister..and she left me far behind...great song..powerful
I was driving to Texas from Florida, stopped for gas and some a-hole stole my CD's but missed this one. 14 hours this album on loop, didn't care cos this album is front to back great,no fillers
This whole album is a masterpiece!
This song expanded my musical experience. I only listened to rap music and R&B until I fell in love with this song. It opened up the flood gates to grunge and then metal and many other types of music. Its still as great now as it was in 1993.
Discovered this song again a few weeks ago. Didn’t imagine I’d see
it being reacted to on UA-cam. It’s a long lost gem
AMAZING SONG...AMAZING ALBUM!!!
Candlebox is still my favorite 90's grunge band
It was deeply personal. The singer was friends with Andrew Wood, singer of Mother Love Bone. As Andy got deeper into heroin, the two went in different directions and the singer distanced himself from Andy, sometimes harshly. (Thus "didn't mean to treat you bad). Andy died of an overdose, and his death impacted so many in the Seattle scene, including Chris Cornell , who was Andy's roommate and was the singer in Soundgarden. When this song talks about friends watching Andy crumbling, it's referring to Chris and others who were partying with Andy and never intervened while Andy was spiraling toward his eventual death.
Chris also wrote a song about Andy, called Say Hello to Heaven, and recorded it with members of Andy's band. They called themselves Temple of the Dog and released one album in honor of Andy. Eddie Vedder, another grunge singer, joined them on a song called Hunger strike, and Andy's former band mates went on to form the band Pearl Jam with Eddie while Chris continued with his band Soundgarden. Both bands were huge, and saw the kind of success that had been predicted for Mother Love Bone had Andy not died as they were just on the cusp of stardom.
Candlebox were briefly successful and this song about Andy was one of their biggest songs. Andrew Wood touched so many in the tight-knit grunge scene and his legacy in music is partly that his death inspired those who loved him to create so much beautiful music from their grief.
Wow, this song takes me back to the 1990’s. So cool. Thx Jayy. Luv your channel
Great band and great song love it thanks for this one 😁
Candlebox is so underrated...seen them three times, twice back in the 90's, and once a couple a years ago. They still have it!! Check out cover me and simple lessons. Great reaction by the way!!
Always loved this song..ty.
I saw Candlebox twice in the last 6 years at the Chicago Winery. They were both intimate, acoustic shows. Kevin Martin, the lead singer, said he wrote this about 1 of his best friends upon his death, Andrew Wood. I believe it was combination drugs and alcohol. It happened long ago but both times Kevin sang it like it just happened. Love Candlebox.. thanks for reacting to such a kick ass band and song. BTW, Kevin Martin gets more beautiful with each passing year.
This is a good song! I never got into Candlebox as a whole, at least not yet, but the two or so songs I've heard were pretty good.
Do it. This song just scratches the surface. This came from one of the greatest albums of the 90s
Listen to Jimmy Mac. He's telling you the 100% unadulterated truth.
Peter Klett was one of the most underrated guitarists of the 90's.
My 2nd fave band of ALL time. TY for reacting to Candlebox. they have sooo many songs, and a lot of them helped me through the death of my ex. I was also lucky enough to get a personal FB message form Lead Singer Kevin Japser Martin after meeting his nephew at a small band show in downtown Olympia, Wa.
Candlebox was a Seattle rock band that emerged at the height of 'grunge' rock in 1993... this first album sold 4 million copies, but the band was soon tagged as a 'Nirvana-copycat band' ... They lasted only 2 more albums (2nd album 'Lucy' sold a half million copies) before they split around 2000.
Candlebox reformed a while later and began recording new albums, but currently only Kevin Martin (vocals) is an original member... the original Candlebox was the most popular, w/ Peter Klett (guitar), Bardi Martin (bass) & Scott Mercado (drums)...
Candlebox songs to check out: "You" ... "Understanding" ... "Change" ... "Happy pills"
This song is so good live , this brings back memories of seeing them.
You know the guitar solo is awesome when you get the stank face vibing to it 😂🤘🏼
They have many many good ones spread throughout all their albums, but 'Miss You' is one of my favorites cause it's about his dad who was in WWII.
Something strings the souls of my teen years with this one. Not a big big one but rockers knew Candlebox
Every song on this album is great.
They did a second album that was a flop.
People were expecting something better.
Never heard of them since
Great Reaction as always Stay Safe♥️♥️♥️
It had a few good songs, Happy Pills their 3rd album is fantastic. You should check it out.
They're actually still making music, I hear.
Their album around 2011 was damn good and they still tour. Saw them a couple years ago with Tesla at Harrah's Casino in Council Bluffs Iowa. Fantastic concert on a great summer evening
This entire album was great
I'm impressed you picked up on all that on the first listen. Very good read of the song. It really is heartbreaking, and you're right, you can hear how personal it is to the singer
amazing reaction and she figured out exactly what the song was about without looking it up. I seen over 10 reactions to this song and she was the first to figure out the meaning without looking it up❤
I swear this song is about my life I'm not an addict but my mom was she passed at 39 I can't remember when I was truly happy 😢
Awesome song..great singer
Wow.... I LOVE this song and Candlebox!!! Great pick Jayy and keep going with these guys, they're amazing!! :)
Great song. Thanks Jayy!
I listen to this song all the time. They played it in the club's here in Orlando.
Candlebox still rocks, Kevin still sounds great. I saw them a couple of months ago with 3 Doors Down.
I had a wonderful woman that I was close to, that died by her own hand. She did not give any indications of her intentions to anyone. This song reminds of her when we used to email each other. She was my sister in law. A very beautiful person, that was my soul mate
I think I sent her song way before you started doing video reactions
Deep song
I cried a little watching you watch this. Hugs to all.
Awesome song
Your understanding of this song is impressive........ looking forward to other reactions
I saw them live a few years ago, they sound absolutely the same it was amazing
Jayy for sure u can feel the emotion ..intense emotion..intense reaction reaction thank u
Have you heard the song:Scar Tissue:? Red hot chili peppers recorded it. You may have already heard it. It's a awesome song
Such an amazing band!
I believe it's about one descent into addiction and how his friends watch him fall further into it.
I actually saw them and still have the original CD. Real shit here..
Edit: they're from here so I saw them in around at small shows
This is a '90s staple
This is one of Madonna’s bands signed to her record label Maverick Records
I love watching your reaction s. Keep doing it sister, you are amazing
I recommend you to watch/react to Mr. BIG's songs "To Be With You", "Green Tinted-Sixtie Mind", "Just Take My Heart" & "Noting But Love". Thank you very much....
Check out the band Collective Soul- Gel, and Shine.
Liked the reaction... Peace!
It was a couple friends the band had in the early 90's. Heroin
it was inspired by two friends who overdosed on heroin and "represents the loss of love between friends and having to be left with the feeling of emptiness.
Na Sister THANK YOU, subscribed immediately. 1 love
Another of my favorites! 🤘🏼❤️
Written for the late great Andrew Wood RIP
😃🤘🤘🤘🤘
I've never seen anyone react to Dave Barnes, some great songs are someday Sarah and Every time she falls in love.
You should react to guns n' roses the song is called Don't Cry I think you would like that
Great song, I don't care who wrote or performed it.
I saw these guys open for Metalica in Portland, OR in 1993. It was supposed to be Alice In Chains which was the whole reason i went, to see AIC. BUT Layne Staley went into rehab and they had to cancel. They replaced them on the lineup with Candlebox. this album had only been out abiut 3 weeks. This was an outdoor show with about 75,000 in attandance, undoubtedly the biggest show they had EVER played. Candlebox stole the show. They made Metalica LOOK AND SOUND bad. I've since seen them 4 more times. If you EVER get a chance to see them, do it. You won't be disappointed.
PLEASE react to Crossfade with "Cold" and "Colors"
This song always felt like a song about depression/suicide to me. UNTIL I actually witnessed first hand a friend of mine getting caught up in the drug world. Of course I had my own issues, but me and him were always close. Because we never belonged there.
He ended up ODing in a Subway bathroom. Alone.
When he promised me he'd never use alone.
Unfortunately, the people around us....were always shit.
If he would've just called me, I would've been with him. But it was the one time he didn't call me. And I honestly feel its because he felt loyalty to a person in our group...who wasn't a friend to either of us.....and he convinced him to never call me for anything.
THEN I was the ONLY one who was upset....STILL UPSET....3.5 years later.
They never even cared for him. And him and I promised we would get clean. He was accepted back into school ffs! And these miserable people convinced him he didn't need it.
Its nothing I ever spoke to anyone about. But Caleb will always be my inspiration, even though I was his. I was just getting clean when he OD'd, and he was younger. But he unfortunately loved everyone too much. As I still.have that same problem. But I have been/stayed clean ever since.
That's truly heartbreaking. So sorry for your loss. May you find peace & comfort in the memories you have of Caleb. Congratulations on getting clean. I know it's excruciatingly difficult. Stay strong 💓
@@scarletjohnston741 🙏💜💜 Thank you.
I never even knew addiction until I was in my 30's.
Sadly, he was still in his early 20's shen he passed. He had a scholarship, he had a plan. But our mutual friends we took care of.... Obviously steered him in the opposite direction. His family isolated him, until after he passed.
It is still hard for me, I have never spoken to anyone about it to this day aside from a couple times I tried speaking to my mother about it.
He was like a little brother to me. I still think of him every day. I was more of a sister to him than his sister was...but we can not blame those who don't know how to guide an addict, when they have never been an addict themselves. It was the one time I wished he would've called. (Any other time I called him first to check in...if he didn't call me... lol)
But truthfully, I think he was ready to go. Between the pain our mutual friends (the only "friends" we had at the time" were causing, his family, on top of his internal pain..... He just wanted to leave.
And maybe he didn't call me that day because he knew I was bettering myself. Doesn't mean I would've left his side, ever.
I appreciate you and your understanding.
There are many types of addicts...
Some of us were there to keep others alive.
To show others there were better ways to live & to be...
On top of a hundred other types.
@@stevepence229 It was hard. We had about a 10 year age gap between us. He was in his early 20's when he got introduced to addiction. I was in my early 30's. But we kept taking care of those around us. No matter how badly they treated us, or others.
There are many types of addicts. And unfortunately the ones that hurt others/themselves/their families....are the only stories you ever hear.
As I said... I was in my early 30s when I became addicted. I personally never ODd... Miraculously. But I must have administered narcan at LEAST 40 times, in the 2 years I used. And it was heartbreaking every time. 20 of those times was the same person...within a 6 month period. I had to keep removing myself from those types. Because I couldn't watch those I cared for....become dependent on me just being there to bring them back.
Unfortunately, I think the only reason Caleb didn't call me that day was because he knew I was on the rd to recovery. I would've still monitored him...but at the same time....he never ODd before. So it was intentional that time....
Which makes me wonder who hurt him so much that day
....where he wouldn't even call his best friend to be there....
@@spiritualpriestess1316 your words bring tears to my eyes. Much love to you sweet girl 💓
@@scarletjohnston741 I appreciate you for this. Truly. 💜🙏
Andy Wood, RIP.
great insight
Do You by Candlebox
🤘🎸✌
I own this album and loved it, thought it was great. But I saw the band live, opening for Rush, and was so shocked and underwhelmed by the guitar work that I found myself wondering if the album tracks used a session player or the producer (who played guitar for a while with Queensryche I think) instead of the guitarist I saw live. Sadly that one live set kinda killed my interest in the band. Sigh.
This song is about a friend of the band who died of a drug overdose!
Was one of his best friends
