Jo Kata & Jo Suburi

In all of Morihiro Saito Shihan's videos, we see him apply his techniques with unparalleled precision, all the parameters are demonstrated with absolute accuracy, there are never superfluous movements, whether broken down or fluid, executed slowly or quickly the technique is dosed in such a way that he is able to demonstrate it with great dexterity and perfect mastery.
For very long years I studied and practiced these same techniques with the constant concern to approach this quality of execution, in form as in substance, my main concern was to reach such a level that I would possible to demonstrate to my students the basic form as well as the advanced form of jo kata with maximum precision without betraying the foundations of his same kata because how to give his students a glimpse of the most advanced forms that they are supposed to reach one day if we ourselves are unable to demonstrate them.
Today many teachers are content to teach and demonstrate only the pedagogical forms of kata and other jo suburi with often too many explanations that only freeze and ossify the body shapes of their students to such an extent that they end up losing their natural flexibility which will invariably lead to jerky and ineffective technical sequences.
Any good practitioner must question himself the quality of the teaching that he has been given and the technical and of pedagogical skills of his teacher if he wishes one day to claim the highest level of technical mastery, this is what made say Morihiro Saito Shihan: “study all the styles you want, but first find a good teacher. »
