    Medic here: definitely don't use the tampon for a bullet wound. Tampons are designed to absorb blood, yes, but not the volume involved with a bullet wound. They also break up quite often when saturated. That's why females swap them so often. You definitely don't want pieces of absorbent material inside of a wound. Debridement of an internal wound is not easy and leaves material conducive of infection... Good for females, but not for bullet wounds...
    If a patient has a bullet wound, or two or three or four or … you immediately protect yourself with nitrile gloves, face mask, and eye protection (splatter into the eyes = pathogen transfer.) immediately apply pressure to the wound(s) and elevate the wound. If the wound is on the trunk and direct pressure does not stop the bleeding (even with small calibers such as the 22 and 380, direct pressure rarely stops bleeding from a bullet wound) you should apply a hemostatic dressing INTO the wound and onto the wound. This hurts the pt. You're stuffing a hemostatic dressing into the wound. You need to mentally prepare the pt for this. Pretty much say "this is gonna hurt, but it's gonna help OK." Don't forget pressure. Hemostatic dressings laid on top of a wound offer no aid. Press it into the wound and continuously apply direct pressure.
    If the wound is on an extremely (arm, leg, hand, foot) and direct pressure doesn't stop the bleeding, you can apply a tourniquet ABOVE the wound. I've seen a few cases where bystanders applied the tourniquet below the wound... Always apply above... the tourniquet or hemostatic dressing should stop the bleeding. They can be used together on extremities.
    Once bleeding has been controlled, you absolutely have to treat and manage shock. The pt is susceptible to hypovolemic shock when massive blood loss occurs. You need to keep the pt breathing adequately and warm. Studies have shown that bending the knees offers no advantage to treating shock. You can do that if you wish, but know it is unnecessary and may put the pt in an uncomfortable position.
    You absolutely must be prepared to offer CPR in the event of a gunshot wound. Shock usually leads to cardiac arrest due to the hypoperfusion of the body's cells. If you come upon a pt suffering from a gunshot wound or wounds, the first thing you need to do is have 911 on standby. Call, put them on speaker, and start tending to the pt. It takes a whole 5 seconds... that's a lot of time, but EMS and ALS can do a LOT more than you or I can on your own.
    So the CAT tourniquet you have is awesome! I can't say thank you enough for having that! I would definitely suggest another pair of nitrile gloves, more sterile and absorbent gauze, and a hemostatic dressing.
    Great pack man! I love these videos!!! Please keep them coming!

    What stands out to me about this setup is that it truly is an EDC pack. What you need is what you have. I keep similar stuff in my Trident 20. Thanks for sharing. As always, you have a great presentation!

    I have watched A LOT of EDC and BOB videos and while I get the contents and set up of most of the bags, many of the others seem just random and thrown together. I like the fact that you organize yours by need and separate the contents to make everything easier to find. I live in the city as well and spend a fair amount of time in my vehicle to and from work even though I live within 7 miles of my business. I have a small kit that compliments my main EDC bag and I often find myself wanting more organization in it. I really enjoyed the video and it gave me a lot more information and ideas than many other videos. Keep up the great work! Definitely gained a loyal subscriber tonight Take it easy and stay prepared!

    That little charging kit is SUCH a good idea! I need a compartment like that to put all of my cords and charging devices in. Love that hygiene kit, too. I have hygiene stuff and charging stuff and lots of stuff, but it's mostly just thrown in there, literally, lol. Also, I like that you carry the full size of stuff, like a full size neosporin instead of just trying to carry a one time use item. I digress, great stuff, so many ideas. You have inspired me! You're so well organized, that's something I definitely learn from you. Thank you!

    Nice to see a REASONABLE edc. I am to the point where I usually cringe when I see someone using the word "prepper" as that usually means they have 3 guns, 100 rounds of ammo, 5 knives, 3 multitools, 16 fire starting tools, 4 different shelters, more medical supplies than an ambulance (most of which they don't even have the training to use), a rocket launcher, and a bag of angry cobras.
    Not one time in your two part video did I go "wait why the hell are you carrying that?"
    Nice setup and clever organizing system with the colors.

      Canadian Prepper Haha... That comment was more for overnight business trips, layovers or nights at the in-laws. However, others can use that module to suit their own needs. I'm glad you like the organization! Yes, my family is now getting really used to search for colors when trying to find items. It's been working well for us!

      TheUrbanPrepper My EDC pack really is my EVERY day carry pack. I've used it as my carry-on (and in one or two cases my only piece of luggage) a couple times since I started carrying it, so having a Dopp kit that just sort of lives in there makes packing that much easier.

    You will probably not see that comment because the video is not recent but what i like in watching videos like this is to « steal » ideas about organising my own bags. And when you have a lot of good ideas, my fav one is the way you organise everything. I do too because i think it is best that way. And i rarely see that in other videos. Thumbs up!

    Great video series and Great information.
    Only thing that is a personal quirk is the amount of stuff Hanging on the outside of the pack.
    Brings back memories of the old westerns where the chuck wagon came CLANKING along down the trail.
    Been a boarderline prepper since 1980 when I entered public safety service and had to outfit my rig with "what if" equipment.
    Thanks for your well thought out vid's...

      Donald Radel Thanks for watching, Donald. I completely understand the hanging stuff. The bottle is often times not attached, but I like having the option to carry it. I haven't figured out a better way of having quick access to the whistle without attaching it externally to the backpack.

    Nice setup for an urban area. For a low key daypack I have the Maxpedition Testudo Laptop Backpack bag, though a little small for a day pack. The bag can hold a 17" or smaller laptop and the big inside pocket fits the AR500 soft Backpack Level IIIA Armor. Be careful for a backpack may label you as a homeless person and you may be shot by the police in ABQ (ABQ 2014 and in the Courts for now). Thank you for another great video ! tjl

    • @2dividedby3equals666
      @2dividedby3equals666 9 років тому

      MrPsygo That is a good point, didn't considered that. The reason why I asked is because, where I live I don't get as much rain as he seems to, but weather here is too unpredictable here so I always have my umbrella on my bag. Since he always mentioned rain as a vital part of Seattle I thought he would always have some form of rain protection on his bag.

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  9 років тому +2

      2dividedby3 The version that I showed is more suited for the current weather (May/June). I will often times strap an umbrella on the top part of the backpack (e.g., top zipper pocket). I usually always have a jacket and hat when the weather calls for it, so I don't double those up in the bag.

    Next time you're at TJ's keep an eye out for their store brand fruit bars. They're nothing but dried fruit (my favorite is Apple+Strawberry, assuming the ingredients list isn't a liar, all that's in it is apples and strawberries) plus, since they're a store brand they're dirt cheap at $1 a bar.

    The water purifying straw is OK but how do you fill your water container with it? I didn't see water purification tabs in your kit though you did mention them in episode 1. May I suggest Sawyer Mini? Can drink directly from it or fill your water container with it. 4oz. about $25.

      Just search for "purple cosmetic bag" in Amazon. My favorite is www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXK5IEI/ref=s9_simh_gw_p194_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=0Q42HA88WSKQWTZ06YQB&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2079475242&pf_rd_i=desktop. It has a purple & white zig zag pattern and measures 9x6x3 inches. There are solid purple bags too.

    Regarding the electronics module, have a look at the HooToo Travel Wireless Router Battery Pack, Dual USB Wall Charger HT-TM04... not sure about the size, but this device is a dual charger plus it is a battery pack and a mini travel router. I personally don't have it but it is something I am eyeing for future purchase.

    TheUrbanPrepper Good job again on your video and organization methods. Are you still using the Picnic Time Pranzo Insulated Lunch Tote or do you also fit your lunch in your EDC backpack too?
    Some suggestions for your modules:
    1) Get the 100 pack of velcro wraps from Amazon for your cables instead of twist-ties. 2) Wrap some gorilla tape on your neosporin in case it bursts in your bag to help protect against it leaking all over your first aid module. 3) A combined compass with a mirror can be nicer for navigating a bearing, and can offer a signal mirror in the same piece. Keep up the good work!

    Maxi pads collect blood that is being lost via menstruation, but that doesn't make them effective 'bleed stoppers' by any stretch of the imagination. The only things that stop bleeding is chemicals (e.g. QuikClot) and pressure (e.g. tourniquets, trauma bandages). Maxi pads will just laugh as they let you bleed out. On that note, tampons just trade a temporary fix for a longer term hazard after they break apart inside your body and you have to fish them out of your trauma cavity after it's all been clotted and stuck to your tissues, resulting in reopened bleeding wounds. Just use the stuff that's made for trauma, as I said trauma bandages, tourniquets, and QuikClot. Or at least something that approximates pressure, like a rolled-up t-shirt. Maxi pads and tampons are just prepper gimmicks that will get you killed.

    Love all your videos, but I'm not sure if you want to have your tooth brush exposed to the toxic bug repellent that could be discharged with a pump. Also need to find a better way to store those bluetooth speakers so it's doesn't get crushed in your unskeletonized eagle creek bag.

    Hello. First, thank you for all your helpful and entertaining videos. You have been instrumental in setting up my own urban preps. I would like to know if you really do take both your EDC Bag AND your Get Home Bag to work with you every day? Surely it would be more practical and efficient to have a just one combined EDC/GetHomeBag. Should the need ever arise, it would be cumbersome and unwise to try and carry both bags, surely?

    • @TheUrbanPrepper
      @TheUrbanPrepper  8 років тому

      +H3RMANN Hey. Thanks for supporting my channel! I carry my EDC Bag, or some variation of it, during my commute. My GHB's stay parked at various locations (e.g., work, car, etc) and don't move. I find that GHB needs vary from what I need for EDC. I am working on fine tuning my setups so my EDC works more like a GO bag, that is a sub-module of my GHB or BOB.

    • @H3RMANN
      @H3RMANN 8 років тому

      +TheUrbanPrepper Thank you for prompt and comprehensive reply. Have you considered though how you and many other preppers on UA-cam have designed their EDC/GetHome Bags around their vehicles. This not only allows for one to carry heavier bags, but also to store auxiliary prepping equipment in their vehicles, which is great. However, there are hundreds of thousands of people around the world who make their daily commute to and from work using public transport. In my experience, using trains and the subway in London and Italy, this can invariably involve a long journey, often standing in confined conditions, uncomfortably close with fellow
      passengers. This culminates in alighting at the destination and having to contend with large crowds of fellow commuters as we all snake our way along narrow platforms, through narrow tunnels and walkways, and across the densely populated concourse, before spilling out of the station onto the street. Consequently, any EDC/GetHome Bag needs to be compact, lightweight and secure (from thieves/pickpockets). Would you consider applying your expertise to designing an EDC/Get Home Bag for just such
      an urban commuter?

    Hello Doctor Urban,,,,
    New to your channel, it's been extremely informative. I'm been watching lots of your u tubes. I especially like the way you're going with the modules. At this point I'm trying to decide between the E bags or the Eagle Creek. I'm not sure which is your favorite right now. Also looking at a bag and do not want to draw attention. Any latest suggestions would be greatly appreciated? BB
