  • Fast Lane Daily's Tom Albrecht takes a deeper look into the new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is powered by an LS7 V8 making 500-hp and 470 lb-ft of torque -- and don't get it mixed up, this Camaro Z/28 isn't only for the track, it's meant for everyday use with the focus on track capability.

    Tom did a much better job at reviewing the vehicle, than Derek. Thank you for not focusing on all the tacos you ate and the hotels you stayed at.

      Different people, different styles - apples and oranges. Derek is much more entertaining to watch and Tom didn't seem too relaxed with his review. He seemed monotone.The reason FLD has done so well is because of Derek's personality and the way he delivers auto news. Derek is the man and I'm sure a few individuals will agree. Everyone has their opinion, just wanted to throw mine in.

    You should have mentioned that the Z/28's run on the Nurburgring was in the rain.....so it's posted time doesn't accurately reflect what it could have done on a dry track.

    Tom, I totally agree with you about wanting a "purpose built" TRACK car. I have NOT driven the Z28, but have driven a 2011 Radical SR3 RS and 2012 Radical SR8. Also had the chance to take my friends Ariel Atom (not the 500) out for a few good laps. AWESOME track cars. The radicals are more "full race" oriented and in my opinion are a much better use of money. Well, the SR3 anyways as it's much closer to the Z28's price. If you want an SR8 for $75K...good luck with that. The Atom on the other hand is less expensive than the Z28 or Radical and I had an absolute BLAST in that little beast. A bit twitchy, but a HELL of alotta fun for wayyyy less money. Thanks for the vid Tom, AWESOME job sir!

    If you just want to a track car with an LS7 then buy a used C6 Z06 and for less than 50k. This Z/28, although fast, is more of a collector car. Its pricing structure compared to the more powerful yet cheaper ZL1 and corvettes is out of line. For 75k I would rather have a CTS-V as a primary car.

    • @deecee4644

    Hey youtube! Do you think trading in a 2014 ZL1 for the Z28 would be a good idea? It'll be daily driven and i love that big engine the z28.

    • @TonyisToking
      @TonyisToking 10 років тому +2

      Keep in mind the tires are a lot more expensive to replace, the brakes are a lot more expensive to replace, the tires will deteriorate faster, the grip in the rain/snow will be substantially worse and the suspension is going to be a bit more bumpy then your ZL1. Also you can't get Navigation, you can't get the high quality Boston acoustics sound system, you can't get rear view cameras, or pretty much any options besides basic radio and A/C.
      But at the end of the day, that 427 sounds incredible and accelerates harder than the ZL1.

    • @nwigchert10
      @nwigchert10 10 років тому

      TonyIsGaming Your first points are actually the things i want to improve from the ZL1 (suspension seen as a fair compromise)Your right about the sound, navi, and cameras. What about the upcoming zo6?

    • @TonyisToking
      @TonyisToking 10 років тому +2

      Nicholas Wigchert Upcoming Z06 is a ride we don't know too much about. I'm guessing that it wont be a fully track focused car, they'll probably save that for the ZR1. Z06 is basically the ZL1 of Corvettes and is a kick ass machine that is well worth it if you can afford it.
      If you can, remember that you wont have back seats, your trunk will be much smaller, and your leg room may be a bit less roomy.
      Fortunately you will have better handling, better grip, faster 0-60s and 1/4 miles, a super car all around that can go toe to toe with Porsches and Italian counterparts. You will also get 25+ MPG when you want to drive it economically.

  • @ALMX5DP
    @ALMX5DP 10 років тому +2

    "The only reason you should be looking out the rear window, is to see how far ahead of the competition you are."
    Spoken like a true bro who has never tracked a car before. I'll just wait for the first UA-cam video to pop up showing a Miata hounding the overly arrogant Z/28 driver who cant even get out of his own way.
    Seriously though, visibility is absolutely necessary unless you are very aware and attune to your surroundings. Lets face it, 98% of people out on road do not have the spacial awareness of a monkey. Clearly this is a case of function following form, as i know even GM engineers would probably have liked to change that aspect (among others) of this car.

Your paying for all the engineering it took to make the Camaro that fast. Vette started with that engineering even in their base cars. Your paying for the Z28 badge.

      It's not about the horsepower, it purposely has less horsepower and less weight to go around corner since it is a track car. The ZL1 is much heavier but is a better car to live with as it has a decent interior with nicer seats, sound system & air conditioning that the Z/28 does not have.

SS was priced @$43k , the ZL1 @$61k and the Z28@$76k. fell in love with the ZL1 right away but it was an automatic , the Z28 was a beautiful beast but I knew commuting 33+ miles both way abd in traffic will not be the right choice, and there is the SS $43 fully loaded but those wheels got to go. You mean 2018. There is no 2017. Just the new 2017 ZL1 with the Corvette Z06's LT4 376 engine with 650 HP 650 Torque and either a 6 speed manual or a 10 speed auto.

    Well it is faster than a gtr around a track. So it is a seriously impressive car if you ask me.

      @camirocz 10 років тому

      Around what track ?Its never going to go near a Gtr.Over 10 seconds behind gtr at nurbugring.

    • @MagicHobo51
      @MagicHobo51 10 років тому

      camirocz It was either willow springs or Laguna seca, motor trend did it. Gtr was 2 seconds slower. I bet the gtr at nurburg was either the track pack or nismo.

      @Mitroff85 10 років тому

      Riley Osborne yeah so since this is not an SS version of the camaro it would only be fair to compare it to the "nismo" version of the GTR. The GTR is a much better car... PERIOD. I like what chevy did with this car but its a bit overpriced.

    • @MagicHobo51
      @MagicHobo51 10 років тому

      Scooby_Boostin First I was wrong it only beat it by 0.2 seconds and I totally agree the gtr is a better car and a better platform for power. I never said the camaro was better I'm just saying it definitely deserves some respect for being faster than a base gtr. And its pretty cheap aswell.

      I wish GM or Ford would make an AWD Camaro and Mustang.That would improve 0-60 times for sure.

    Not good in wet conditions??? Is he nuts!? The 7:37 lap time on the ring was achieved in wet conditions. They guesstimate a 7:30 in dry conditions with this car

    • @TonyisToking
      @TonyisToking 10 років тому

      When he says wet conditions he means inches of rain and snow... The lap time on the ring was achieved by waiting til most of the rain dried and the rain itself had stopped. The track was still wet, but it wasn't physically raining as hard as it might be on days where you need to get to work.

    I don't think not having the right tires on it is a good enough excuse not to buy a car, you can buy another set and there going to ware out fast anyway.
