WordPress user permissions give you a lot of flexibility in determining what specific users and user roles are able to do on your website. You can set permissions on user roles and individual users. You can also create brand new user roles with custom sets of WordPress user permissions.

I've created a playlist full of useful WordPress admin tweaks. If you want to level-up your admin dashboard check out the playlist here: ua-cam.com/video/YhKVXC8t6DA/v-deo.html
Hey dear, I want to create a website for my college group project and I want to add a login section here where only some group member can login in it. It shouldn't have a registration system, just login and forgot password button. Username and password are provided by the admin. Please help me.
I was hoping you could point me to the right resource. So I have an existing database with users and contributors and the list keeps growing as they sign up on my app. I want to automatically provide specific access to each type from this database and this will determine their interaction on the blog.
Why would anyone dislike this video? This is helpful information.
I tell you why. People are jealous, it's their nature. This guy knows A LOT about Wordpress.
This is what I am looking for after watching several videos. Thanks
Oh wooooooooooooooooow!!!! Great video. Thanks a lot!

Awesome tutorial as usual!!!
Thanks, Bjorn another great video
Hello. Great video and great plugin. What if I want to limit product category access? I want to give a certain user only to 3 categories, where as there are about 50 categories. Another user will have access to a different set of categories. Can this be done using this plugin?
Hey Rajesh,
That should be possible with this plugin. Have you tried it already?
@@wplearninglab Thank you. I will try. I was still in the process of narrowing down my options before I select one.
Thank you for the video!
The question I have wrt (with regards to) the contributor role.
If I am the admin, can I create a post and assign it to the contributor to do edits?
Or can the contributor only edit posts that he / she created himself / herself?
thanks a lot for making this video :)
This was very helpful! Do you have a video I can reference to give certain Roles access to pages with content I don't want anyone to see other than special clients? Such as videos, specifications, ROI tables, etc, that they could download?
Thank you sooo much for the video!!

Hey there, I loved your video, very helpful. Just one thing I can't figure out. How do I let my Dev team or Tech team see basically everything except my sales? I don't feel thats something to be shared, but they see it all. :O Thank you, Joei☺
really nice presentation.. good.
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Your videos are awesome. I learnt a lot from them. Thank you very much....I have one question . Can I include access to pages to an Author in WordPress without using a plugin?
Thank you for your support.
Hi Arshad, thanks for watching lots of videos! I'm glad they help!
To answer your question, yes, but you'll have to add some code to your functions file. How comfortable are you with PHP?
thanks... really helpful and still relevant 2020
Thanks for the tutorial .
You are amazing! Quick question though I downloaded this neat plugin which is a to-do list plugin. The issue is its made specifically for admin use only. I hard coded and changed the permission from manage_options to read. I also used the user role editor plugin as well. But i still cant get the plugin to display in the wp_nav_menu for subscribers. Any advice would really help. Thanks again!
You are awesome ❤❤❤❤

HELP PLEASE . How do you wrap a shortcode around a div in a template that i cant access via elementor?? I can access the template php code page of course. How do i do it please??
First of all thanks alot for this video it helped me alot. I wanted to know, if i can use this plugin to actually edit user roles within a template/website, and not onto my wordpress. Say i create a website where you have to login as a client or as a worker. could this plugin be used in that case ?
Hi Momo. It depends on what you are building. You may be better using a membership plugin or depending on your theme it may have built in client area. What theme are you using? Some good videos can be found on our channel here ua-cam.com/users/WPLearningLabsearch?query=membership hopefully this helps. Thanks for reaching out. Is there a way to grant access to logged in users to certain pages ? If logged out will re-direct to sign up page. Thanks
1) I want to have a Location Selector popup at the website startup.. and based on the selection i want to display my products.
There will be a few major cities (say 7-8) in my country where i want to sell my product according to the availability of the product at that city. Few set of products are available in ALL THE CITIES and some are available ONLY IN FEW CITIES. So I want to display the products according to the selection made by the visitor.
Is there any plugin available to have this kind of classification and please recommend your suggestions.
I wonder if there's a way to let a single user edit a single page dedicated to them, for example - on a wedding video company, a couple can edit their own wedding page. Should I use this plugin or any other recommendations?
I am not sure if you cover this elsewhere but I am trying to get the sign up process to be different depending on type of user. I'd like basic registration to just be username, email, user type, and password. Then after they confirm they can complete their profile which would be different depending on which user type they selected. Thank you for your help
Hi, I did this but when I try login in to see if it worked, i couldn’t login. Do I have to use the same url as the admin, for instance websitename/wp.admin or is difference?
pretty good stuff :)
Cool, thanks for watching Bibhash!
I wondered whether this is still your recommended method of choice?
Hi Andy,
It's still the method I use, but I haven't been looking around for new ones. Have you found something better?
No I have't. I just wondered how ir compred to the use of Elementor Pro's Role Manager. I had looked at that for a friend... but now she says she's too busy to do anything on the website...
That's often how it happens, people get busy and ignore their websites, lol.
The Elementor role manager is very Elementor-specific. This plugin offers a lot more options.
Is there any way to give access of specific pugin, plugin could be xyz. using role editor plugin.
thanks
Please help, How to login as a editor/instructor in wordpress?
is there a cap on how many new user roles we can add?
Not sure if this plugin handles this, but is there a way for instance to limit the user's access to 1 specific dashboard menu? For example: I created a restaurant website with a plugin that handles reservations. After a guest makes a reservation, an email is sent out to the guest and the owner of the restaurant saying the reservation is pending and is waiting to be confirmed. However to confirm the reservation the owner of the restaurant has to log into the backend of the website and use the dashboard menu that was created by the reservations plugin.
I don't want the restaurant owner to be exposed to all the different things in the dashboard that can break the site if they mess around. But is there a way to simply have their login account only see the reservations menu in the dashboard that was created by the plugin, nothing else?
I am a blogger assistant, but on Wordpress I don't have the plugin icon on my toolbar so zero access to manage or help out with plugins, but she would like me to have access to all of this. So I'm assuming that if she downloads The User Role Editor and changes my permissions, I will be able to access to all of that?
Is there a permission setting that disables the ability to edit the permalink?
Thx.
Hi sir, I want set only users can see there own products in particular ac : suppose abc user : add products and then user only see there product not all so how can we set ?
Great video and thnx for all you videos I learn so much on wp because of you... but I wanna know a plug-in to give access to user to create an account on my site and sale and I’ll have a % on every sales
I wanted to use this plugin but it is not available what else can i use.
Hi Franz,
Thanks for letting me know! You can try this one: ua-cam.com/video/ny_A9begIU0/v-deo.html
I cant find any Add Role or I can find some features already checked not able to uncheck. ?? Is this demo a paid/pro version??
Hi Binu,
In the video I used the free version. Are the features you're trying to uncheck part of default WordPress roles?
thx for the vid
+RNT GM You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Hi, I wanted to ask if there is some way that the role have no access to the backend at all?
If I have simple membership plugin, does this add too much to site?
Hi Jean-Desir,
I don't know what you mean by "add too much to site". Can you explain a little more?
WordPress Tutorials - WPLearningLab what is the maximum number of plugins to add to your site before it is too slow?
I need to add a role for someone to upload image products into Woocommerce. Is that possible with this plug in?
I haven't tried this specific use-case but I don't see why not. You could create a new role based on the author role and just remove all capabilities you don't want them to have.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
thanks
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Instead of going through a lot of elimination can we not just restrict them to a specific page?
Yes, you could do that and share a direct link to that page with them.
@@wplearninglab How???
@@gobrad I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering the same. Did you find and answer?
Is there a setting to hide plugins from users?
I added a user and when i check their log in it only goes to my website not the dashboard version. What did i do wrong?
Hi Bjorn, when I follow the steps, the new user is logged in as a customer....did I do something wrong?
I did exactly as you said. But when I log in with my credentials I cannot get into the dashboard
How do I create an area / page for these users to login into?
Hi Zach,
Any and all users can log into your site using the standard login page that you use as the admin. When they login they will only see the components of the dashboard that they're user ID is set to see.
You can create a custom login page as well. There are a few plugins that help with that including Elementor Pro.
Those are the only two options.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Hey I have a big issue. I made the forum and stuff but i made a fake account to test things out. When I logged into the fake account I could literally delete people's comments on my blog posts. I logged back into my admin account and saw the comments were in fact deleted. I also logged back into the fake account and when I went to the dashboard inside the fake account I saw "Let's launch" then the name of my website and I literally just went along with it and clicked through this. Then when I logged into the admin literally the site homepage was changed. It's scary. I checked the fake account to see if it's a subscriber through my admin account under users and it is a subscriber. I'm scared because a subscriber can have this much power under my site? Please help. No where on google is helping. I really need help. I am really bad with code. I just started. I get confused very easily when it comes to terms and code. Please help I'm literally scared that some random person can sign up and mess with my website now
But how can I edit ADMIN capabilities.... I need this help
Hey guys I have 100 member static pages. I want them to be able to edit only their own pages (which are visible to everyone else). Is there a way of doing it?
Hi Brian, what are you using to create the member pages?
2017 check it out ( I only started it yesterday so it is primative) www.AVpeople.net
Hi Brian,
It looks like you're off to a good start. What sort of information do your members need to be able to edit on their pages. Would Buddypress profile pages be enough? Out of the box they look like this: ua-cam.com/video/KC1G1HR3hNA/v-deo.html
But you can do a lot to customize them.
Thanks, can you please provide me a snippet. :)
user roles are only for internal control? not for website control? i want to make pages accessible only to say customers not search engines , is roles the way to go?
+jffrywad Roles are not the way to go in this case.
To do it well you'll have to use a membership plugin like Paid Memberships Pro. The plugin is free and with it you can create free or paid user accounts. Then you can set pages to be accessible only took specific user groups. Search engines can't access those pages.
I have a detailed Paid Memberships Pro tutorial being edited right now. It'll be released soon if you're interested.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
thanks for getting back to me. Yeah i see roles is not the way as well. Does PMP work with woocommerce pages? do yo have a video for that plug in?
+jffrywad Yes, it does work with WooCommerce. The PMP add-on for Woocommerce is also free.
I have a tutorial for making a membership site from start to finish with PMP recorded. It's in the editing phase right now. The tutorial is around 1 hour long and uses Stripe as the payment processor. Woocommerce doesnt feature on that tutorial though. Maybe I'll create a follow-up for it.
I should have the tutorial published by the end of the month.
WordPress Tutorials - WPLearningLab one month...slacker...hahaha. can't wait.
+jffrywad Haha, I know right?
Hey thank you for the video. I just intalled and activated it. I dont see the user role into users, i can only see in into network. Do you know why ? Thank you
Hi Sylvain, did you install it on a multisite network? Or where does the term "network" appear?

When I'm trying to add new user I have only username, email and role. In my WordPress I don't have first name, last name, website and password when I click on add new user. Do you know how to solve this?

Can i make an admin name and let my friend be like an admin?
how to revert the changes back
Hi I have crated a user in "User Role Editor" but whenever i tried to login with this id it take me to the website home page not to the Wordpress dashboard like you do..please help me
Hello Deepika.. I am facing the same issue as were. Please tell me how you fixed this problem.
How do you do if I want to set permission to a specific page ?Ex) I want my friend to add/edit products/pages but not edit/delite a specific page?
Hi Pelle,
It sounds like you may be using WooCommerce. If so, check out this help page: docs.woocommerce.com/document/roles-capabilities/
WooCommerce has separate plugins for access and permissions.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Thanks It worked great!
Awesome, I'm glad it worked!
If you give him access to plugins so he can edit his roles. And access something else which i don't him to access.
I had created new username and password. When i login with
this newly created username and password, i couldn’t access wordpress
dashboard, but instead it open the website as if like normal customer....Why?
Hi Suran,
Sorry for the delay in responding. Our third child arrived 12 days ago and it's been a bit of a gong show around here 👶
Hard to tell without seeing your setup. But could it have something to do with permissions you set for that user level?
@@wplearninglab Bjorn, congrats for your child! May God bless you and your family!
I made an Primary Role: admin not administrator.
Selected all the groups by clicking Quick Filters
And updated
And now my friend is admin
And im administrator.
That sounds perfect, good work!
@@wplearninglab thanks
Why are subscribers able to delete comments left on my blog? That makes no sense. Please help. I made a fake account and i literally saw the comment icon on the top side bar and i had the option to delete, spam any comments left on my blog
wordpress should have this built in instead of having use a plugin smh
I think this might help me. I have a client who wants full rights of a website i created to be allowed edit or add page like another contact page for a different purposes. Do I need to give that client full rights to the site or only assign a user role to allow that person to make changes to a page and or recreate it and the client wants to have access to be allowed people to make purchases from the site. I don't want to give full rights being i created all the content etc. What do you suggest i do and how? Can i give you my email or how can i contact you
