I just absolutely love your hillstream Aquarium. I can only imagine how fascinating it would be to have a day just to look at it. Thank you for sharing with us. You are just amazing!!👍💪❤️🐟🌱🌿🙏
Wow Rachel! I really like the video you made about the Rainbow Shiners and the Flagfin Shiners! I got a streamer called Eheim stream On 3500 to my tank, I have installed to my aquarium! I got really god streams flow in the tank and my fish spawning and colour up really cool! I thank you for the Linked tip you gived me about NANFA about the native fish of the Rainbow Shiners! I have never seen the Flagfin Shiners before, they looking amazing my friend would be cool to see their colour! Take good care and have a great weekend! From me your friend Mikael
I was really inspired by this tank. I finally managed to talk my mother into using native species in the ponds I set up for her. I stocked them with some rosy red fatheads, very cool little fish that if they ever manage to get into lock waters will cause no issues.
Hi. I've been watching your channel and i wanted to let you know that you are my favorite aquarium channel. One of the reasons is that you are very hands on. You don't just sit there talking. You actually get your hands wet. Thanks for all the knowledge and inspiration!🐌🌱🐟🌿🐡🥒🦐🔱
I really enjoy watching your videos! I keep three community tanks myself with all live plants. I learn a lot watching you and I enjoy it please keep up the good work!
I always wondered if the U.S. had some interesting aquarium fish and it seems like these are some good options. I'd be interested to see more videos about other native fish. Most aquarium stores focus on species outside of the U.S., so this is new to me. Thanks for sharing!
I absolutely love the selections you’ve made. I could only imagine how amazing that tank looks in person because the footage always leaves me wanting more... .I added Hillstream species to my native take a couple years back when I got turned on to some loaches and agree that it’s a great pairing. Would love to see a small group of native darters added. Perhaps Rainbow or Orange Throat... I bet you’d love them.
Must say, you are looking stunning and tanned! 😄 I agree, they will be perfect in the Hillstream. The tank looks really outstanding!! Looking forward to an update on them. Fun vid Rachel, Thanks...😎
@@RachelOLeary probably, yep. Could add a collection tray for the eggs when you see them fire up, I guess. Just pull it out after you see some eggs at the bottom of it under the marbles.
Quick add. Your Hillstream tank videos have taught me a ton. Trying to put my own together with just Reticulated Hillstream Loach and Rainbow Shiners. 👍🏾
Planning to pick up some rainbow shiners this week! So excited. HAve you ever looked into having fiery black shiners? I think they're my 2nd favorite type.
My rainbow shiners are among my favourite fish. I'd love to keep other species but we are really restricted in the UK. Can't wait to see yours when they're all fired up. That's a sight that's hard to beat.
Right now I only keep two tropical fish, guppies, and a vermiculated sailfin catfish, I keep a few native species, I keep mosquito fish, green sunfish, bluegill, and a largemouth bass.
I love the 150 gallon hillstream tank!! I’m curious what temp you keep this tank at because I heard you mention you have khuli loaches in there which I really want but I’m not sure they can go in my cooler water tank. My tank is usually from 71-73 in the winter and more like 73 -74 in the summer. Do you think that would be too cold for them? I like the banded khuli loaches. I just haven’t got them because I thought they needed warmer water. What do you think?
That tank is really great, you are correct in the local fish get very little respect. I think the main reason is our area has to deal with cold weather. Most fish can not adapt to ice covered ponds and lakes. But the fish in our waters seem to be genetically stronger
What's good Rachel. I was wondering if you had any more Danionella translucinda in stock. Is it a good idea to put some in a fluval spec 5 gallon (obviously changing the filter power) and if so how many. One more thing, do these guys overpopulate and how often would you do water changes
FYI for most US shiners and minnows to breed properly they need creek chubs to make nests first, then they will spawn in them adding their eggs to the creek chubs. This means the minnow and shiners don't have to waste energy on building their nests, and the creek chub eggs get more protection by being mingled with eggs of other species and divulting the predation on their eggs.
I live in York county is it possible to see your fish room maybe a tour and just wanna learn more. I’ve watched thousands of videos and now have about five tanks. Just was wondering if it was a possibility.
You might think of keeping them outdoors in those mini ponds- spawn or some extras...cooler waters will let them live much longer. I tried Rosy minnows indoors..never again. Aged in one year into crooked spines and just death by old age fast.
@@RachelOLeary oh ok. I just thought you might come up with a different spiecies type, with the two types you have there. but i guess it would prob just be, either or, of one or the other?? don't mean to sound dumb? just was curious if it could happen? kinda kool. ty.
I use them as well and definitely recommend them. My fish go crazy for them and it’s a great way to get all the fish moving around when you have inquisitive guests over.
you really don't realize just how beautiful they are, til you see them in the aquarium. just gorgeous.
my goal is to be as brave as that red shrimp trying to get at that onip tab
Hahahahaha

Beautiful additions to the Hillstream tank. You will get lots of enjoyment from them.
really miss you and ur fish videos
love seeing the bamboo doing his thing, catching his food with his fans.

Same here. I would love to do an US native tank, but when you go looking for the fish, it seems that blank stares rule the day.
Rachel your hillstream tank is beautiful 👍

Holy crap. I didn’t think the 150 could get any more stunning. Gorgeous fish!
That's one gorgeous tank!
Glad to see you
That one photobomb shrimp ! 😂
Fantastic fish!!!! Thanks for the great video.
That shrimp just cracked me up. Fearless.
Love your videos!! Keep up the amazing work!
It’s really nice to see these on UA-cam. I have rainbow shiners and sailfin shiners (close cousin to the flagfins) together in a 55 gallon.
This has been a very inspiring project for me. I have built my own hillstream aquarium since last year! Thank you Rachel.
Very cool tank & fish ❤️
Loved every minute.
They really are just as colorful as traditional tetras. Your collection is amazing.
I love that tank. Always been my favorite ☺️
Love the natives. And especially the species spotlight. 😊 liked. 👍
I love your Hillstream tank! I fell in love with the Hillstream Loach and the CPD from watching your videos and now I have my own tank of them!
All I keep now is natives, red breast sunfish, long eared sunfish, rainbow darters and blackboard dace
Sweet setup.👍
I googled some of your shiner species in breeding coloration. My god are they vibrant and stunning! I can't wait to see yours in spawning dress.
Amazing tank!

Love your eye makeup :)
Thank you!
You are so right! Many of our native fish make really good aquarium fish. Many are very hardy. I keep a fairly large number of fish Native to my area.
You could add a shallow tray of marbles into the 150gal, they'll spawn in it and that will protect the eggs
The gobies and loaches will make fast work of eggs, i think
@@RachelOLeary probably, yep. Could add a collection tray for the eggs when you see them fire up, I guess. Just pull it out after you see some eggs at the bottom of it under the marbles.
Very cool great choice for fish👍👍
Love the 150 tank racheal
I’m finally getting my own fish room (shed) 🤣 I’m so tempted to do a smaller 50g hillstrem or a nice wild betta tank
Love that aquarium
Glad to see you enjoying your quarantining. LOL.
That's awesome I have some shiners in my outdoor pond in south Georgia
rainbow shinners are my dream fish
They’re such an interesting looking fish. They look like a cross between an oto and a glowlight/penguin tetra
Love it!!
Love this tank! New fish look great. Hope you get lots of activity in the middle. Will be cool if they all hang out together...
I absolutely love notropis shiners!!!! They are my favorite group of native species
This are one fish I love to have in my Fishroom

You should get into madtoms they are dwarf native catfish and are really neat!

that is my fav tank of all yours!
Where did you get them?
What small native fish would you recommend for small outdoor ponds that can stay outside for the winter months? I am in Louisiana. Thank you!
What about Florida flagfish?
Rachel has done a species spotlight on them, I think they might be suitable.

My rainbow shiners spawned last week
would you keep shiners with cherry shrimp?
What's that little bight of food she sticks to the glass called?
One day will have a big tank with these beauties
What are the food tablets on the glass?
Ohhhhhk Onip tabs

Nice
I caught that fish today, but I’m not sure if it’s legal to keep them in pa. What’s the name 6:35?
Great thing to do, conserve native species and creating beauty.
Очень нравятся северо-американские шайнеры! Большое спасибо вам за видео!

This is unrelated to the video, but what are the length of your endlicheris? Thanks.
About 20ish inches
@@RachelOLeary your tank is also 7 by 2 by 2 correct?
hope your knee and health is going well?
do they interbreed ?
You know, I am not sure. I don't think that will be a problem in this aquarium though

There should be more us native fish in the aquarium hobby they are really good looking fish and a lot of them do good in an aquarium.
U should put dwarf neon rainbowfish in there
👍
😍
I used to have shiners years ago but now uk stopped importing them along with bitterling such a shame
You Rainbow Shiners remind me a little bit of Glowlight Tetras (not Glofish).
👍💓👍
Waiting on a Etheostoma species to be added to the Hillstream... 😅
Natural tanks with small fish>
it's a shame, most people just use them as bait! they're so pretty.
I caught shiners from the creek behind my house, but my bichir fry ate them:(
