    I usually take in person classes, but anesthesia was only offered online this semester. This was a life saver. I now get it. Thank you.

    Very interesting video. Very well explained.
    Have you ever tried a Dräger Primus anesthesia machine? In our university setting we use them on all our human patients. Every weight category: neonates 500 g to morbid obese 240 kg. It is a closed rebreathing circuit even for the neonates. Thus we can go minimal flow (0,3-0,5 l/min of fresh air). Using Desfluran or Sevofluran, it saves a lot of money.

    I have 2 questions: 1. My practice sedates and then places cath but I noticed that by the time the patient makes it to the table for the cath, we have wasted time . By the time they make it into sx they are already starting to wake up and so they end up getting a ton of prop. Does it matter? Should the cath be placed before and then they should be sedated? We had one jump off the table because the cath placement took forever. 2. What does the “round to 0.25 hrs mean on your machine?

    • @luciazl1679
      @luciazl1679 4 роки тому +4

      You should improve your sedation and induction protocols, you can read the 2020 AAHA anesthesia and monitoring guidelines at aaha.org/anethesia.
      Maybe you should train your team also, to be faster at the procedure (pre/trans/post) and you'll see how your history changes.
      Training the team is crucial for you to work faster and better

      At my college and at clinics I have been at, we have always gotten a catheter in first and administered the induction drug through it. We sedate the animal first in appropriate methods, then place cath, then induction drug. Maybe see if they can do sedation closer to the surgery.

    I did a surgery with the doc. I noticed I messed up by unhooking the pet from the machine by switching OFF first. I should have turned the lever to OFF then unhooked the pet from mouth piece and then turn the machine OFF :/

    Our clinical instructor is horrible. Just because she has 20+ years' experience, she treats us as if we should know the same. I don't want to go back to school in the fall, but don't want to drop out either. I did that last term after 6 weeks and did not return this January. How do I get past this? My complaints fall on deaf ears in the program.

    Where is the face mask for the animal

    • @BirdyMum
      @BirdyMum 2 роки тому +1

      Most animals are intubated with a breathing tube to keep the airways open. Masks are sometimes used at the very beginning to give a bit of anaesthetic to kick off their induction, or used on small animals like birds.

    • @laurendixon7073
      @laurendixon7073 Рік тому +1

      We don’t use masks very often anymore due to multiple factors, lots of gas wastage, WHS risk to the staff etc. so we put in a ET tube instead, much better practice than “masking down”

    • @emmarose3220
      @emmarose3220 Рік тому

      It’s just a faster abbreviation we use so we don’t have to say milligram per kilogram per minute in an emergency situation. We just say mg/kg/min because we can understand a basic abbreviation and not waste time.

      KG is actually 2 syllables and saying kig is one. If you don't like it, it's kind of an easy problem to solve, but that's what most people in the veterinary field say.
