  • I think this was the first video I made specifically for youtube and I CRINGE SO HARD at my stupid voice and how young and self conscious I was. Keeping it up anyway because a lot of you found it useful. Sorry about my voice.
    This is a 3rd story walk up railroad style apartment in Buswick, Brooklyn. The building was constructed in 1910. It's a relatively safe neighborhood, with easy access to Manhattan.
    Thanks so much for watching! :)

    The room with the French doors should be the bedroom ! & the room where you have the bed should be the living room !! The room with the litter box should be an office !!

      She said in the video that the reason the room is not the living room is because there are no windows and they thought it would be a better place to sleep.

      Vanessa Abena Haha yeah, no problem! I think a lot of people are embarrassed about how much they spend to live in NYC. I've seen a lot of comments on other videos where people say, "That's stupid! You can live in a mansion in Oklahoma for that price!" Hahah! But I'm confident with my decision to make sacrifices to pursue my dreams, so idc 🤷🏻‍♀️🕺🏻

      Many people just like to show off and pretend that the price doesn't matter.

      @@DDios-ih9deMany yeas I got one small building in Greenpoint I know What I'm talking about it...same size and floor plans you can rent in Union City NJ for 1,300 in Hoboken 2,500 or more..."utilities" (electricity, water and heating, many landlord are switching for electric heater) believe or not, but is the true.

    I lived in the same apartment in the early 1990's. It was on 12th street between 8th and the park. We paid 500 dollars a month. It was originally built as dormitory for the men that worked in the clock factory in Park Slope.

    Your apartment is very beautiful and spacious. As a New Yorker living in the Bronx and having been in many homes in all five boroughs, no matter the square footage, bathrooms and kitchens are small. We make due with the space we have. Thank you for sharing your apartment.

    Great apartment! A friend of mine in Park Slope has a railroad apartment! You get a lot of rooms, plus 2 entrances so it's very versatile. Trust me, $1900 for that in New York is a great deal! You have people paying $2500 for a studio! Thanks for sharing!

      Actually, there are also places in Brooklyn where studios are going upwards of $2000 a month. Check out the new high-rise buildings in downtown Brooklyn. This area of Brooklyn is being called the New Manhattan.

      J SMITH it's called gentrification, those places been there for decades

    • @jsmith5509
      @jsmith5509 7 років тому +4

      No doubt , gentrification is real! I was speaking of the NEW buildings going up and the ones that have opened over the last year or so. These are newly built buildings so they have not been there long. Some have not begun leasing yet, but on their web pages, you are given a breakdown of floor plans, and price.

    I KNEW exactly what you were going to say next concerning the heat. There’s been days where it’s like 60 degrees outside and the heat is on full blast. When it’s below freezing, the heat is either off or extremely low. But they claim it’s working fine bc the heat we get is based off the outdoor AND indoor temperature. I think it’s rigged that way. I’m convinced. TOOOO many ppl are complaining of the same exact problem. So much so, it was on the news.

      MissAtomicBomb Haha no way! It's funny because people don't understand how we could go from one extreme (minimalist van life) to the total opposite extreme (big city hustle) but I feel like they're kind of two sides of the same coin. They're both very intense, challenging, yet rewarding adventures 😊 Best of luck to you if you choose van life! 🙏🏼💕 I def dream of buying a van again one day!

    Rear Window is my FAVORITE MOVIE of all time! James Stewart & Grace Kelly! They had such chemistry in this movie! I moved 5 years ago & moved into a place that has a center courtyard! It's annoying, at times! In 2003, Grace Kelly's little overnight bag she carried in the movie came up for auction. I wanted it SO BAD! I did not on it, but did not win :( I believe my final bid was $950! It would have been soooo worth it!

      michelle kearsey haha yeah we are actually sleeping in the room with the French doors now, because in the summertime the apt gets so hot and we only have one window unit. Wow! What a great deal, it's huge! What neighborhood are you in? We're planning on moving to ny in a few months from Seattle. I lived in williamsburg/bushwick in 2010, so I've been scouring youtube for videos and living on craigslist to have a good idea of what's available at what price point now. I was thinking I was going to move back to the same area, but now I see they're taking down the L train for 15 months starting Jan 2019! But we shall see!

    since you mentioned you don't have a washer and dryer in your unit since you have that wall with pictures and stuff in your kitchen you could get a portable washer and dryer and put them there, it would work because the portable dryer has a hose to be vented and you can put it closer to the window and you can attach the portable washer to the kitchen sink ^_^ then you won't have to worry about having to go to the laundromat

    I don't think people are being secretive or snobby about not disclosing rent prices, most people just don't talk about money like that. If you live between DC and New York you know what we pay to live in spaces that most people would call tiny. Rental rates vary by space, location to trains, etc so knowing what someone's rent is isn't helpful to anyone unless you're going to make a donation. $1900 is great btw.

    • @AuNaturale2012
      @AuNaturale2012 6 років тому +8

      AmeriKraut it is actually helpful especially if people want a realistic idea of how much they will be spending if they actually move and it's better than going on websites like trulia or Craigslist because you're getting a full view of what these apartments look like. I do agree that it's not snobby to no disclose rent but I mean honestly ppl know that these questions are going to be asked when they upload these types of videos. I don't see the reason not to disclose it, it's not like the people are asking for their address 😂😂😂

    $2,000 for an apartment that size in New York is not outrageous; people are paying that for 300 sq ft studios! This apartment is terrific. Reminds me of old New York with the brownstones and the whole feel of New York. The bathroom would be okay with me since I am single and very tiny, LOL!

My grandma went from a beautiful 3 bedroom apartment that was huge that she lived in for like 30 years to across the street to almost a nicer looking “building” and it was like a shoebox compared to what she had and she was paying more at the new one 👎🏼 & this is in Bensonhurst

    Get some stainless shelves to put above toilet. It would give you place to stack towels. Looks like somebody had them up there. It helps a lot if you are short on space. Looks good, too.

    Rent is already high as shit but it’s getting seriously outta control. I’m looking at basically the same price right now for something I could’ve gotten for 1400 a couple years ago. That’s still a pretty good space though. Just grateful to not be on the street because that’s often the case the way the rent is moving man.

    I would definitely move the bedroom to the back room. Lol that's the weirdest location for a bed. But if you dont eveb have guest , then ooook! Lol just get room darkening and sound proofing curtains!!!!

    This is so cool! All of my grandparents emigrated to flee Communism during the Russian Revolution. They found themselves in Greenpoint Brooklyn. This tour is great! Reminds me of happy times as a child. There was NO bathroom in their apartments! There was a bathroom at the end of the hallway! Your place is wonderful! You gotta read, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." It describes your place. Hugs! The Air Force brought me to Missouri, so let me know if you ever come out this way, you can visit us. We got lotsa room for guests/friends. God bless you two!
