My grandma lived in the one bedroom off of Doble Ave. The gangs didn't start to get as bad till the mid 80s. I miss my grandma's house, it was a safe place for me.
I grew up a couple blocks from Mar Vista Gardens in the 1970s and early 80s and went to school with some kids who lived there. It was crazy! We could always hear gunshots coming from there, even a Tommy gun going off a couple times. A police helicopter flew over MVG just about every weekend. The CXC and V13 gangs were at war for a long, long time.
