    She's just another of those smug bastards who protected their well-paid, comfortable careers and didn't care what happened to others. Instead of standing up to government and refusing to play along, they merrily sent infected patients into care homes full of vulnerable elderly people, knowing the virus would scythe through them.

    I’m a Paramedic and worked continuously throughout CV19. We paramedics noticed that almost overnight, nearly every resident of care homes was suddenly on DNR (do not resuscitate) notices. Care home residents were being left to die when they needn’t have been.
    Now it all calmed down and the enquiries have started, guess who they’re blaming for these clinical decisions? Yep, you’ve guessed it, individual Paramedics.

    • @spiralgrain4552
      @spiralgrain4552 9 місяців тому +4

      They know the blame will always "trickle down" to the bottom. DNR was used on people with learning disabilities and when i worked in the community, i heard elderly people tell me hw they felt it was only polite to agree to DNR as the person phoning them was insistent on it.

    • @jillhs6445
      @jillhs6445 9 місяців тому

      This was brought in (DNR) before the Covid epidemic took hold. Hospitals, GPs, Care Home Managers, Health workers. People were encouraged to add DNR onto patient files. Instructions may well have come from Matt Hancock's Dept. at the time. It appeared to be an edict. The next thing that changed was Cause of Death. That suddenly became "Frailties of Old Age".

    A dear friend of mine was managing a small Care Home. One, presumably, Covid-19 positive patient was discharged to them from Hospital and they were given no information or opportunity to refuse acceptance. About a month and a half later, 11 inhabitants of the Care Home, 11 of her friends, died from Covid-19 in the space of one week. It broke her. It broke the Care Home. Within another three months it was closed and my friend has not worked in the Sector since. Indeed, she has not been mentally able to work in the Sector since.

      I've found that no one seems to really want to know these things. I know of one NHS hospital in Fife who made staff come to work while awaiting their covid test results - as they were only allowed sick leave if they could produce a positive test -which resulted in over half the dementia, and pallative care, patients being killed by covid caught from staff. I was made to think that the hospital didn't come up with that policy themselves. That place also uses antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants on their dementia patients to make them more manageable - but, again, noone seems to care.

      Totally agree. This was the first thing I thought. It’s actually not rocket science.
      I trained in the nhs but now retired and living in Australia. I laterally lectured in Aged Care and Disability and this the minimum base requirement to work in either sector. It is up to the employer of the nursing home in the uk who they employ.
      Where was the crucial infection control training which should have been updated? Infection and viruses always run riot in nursing homes.
      Getting more people employed in the care sector needs careful monitoring as it’s not an easy job and requires the skills and knowledge of a special person. But aged care workers do not always have the required underpinning knowledge.they are not nurses.
      Overseas qualifications need cross referencing to ensure standards are meant airbed. Sadly not all overseas quals are comparable. Importing carers from overseas without checking their credentials is an accident waiting to happen.

      People who didn't need to be in hospital needed to go somewhere to create space in hospitals. UK hospitals run ridiculously full because we can't discharge people into social care. So we were faced with people dying in hospital car parks in tents (eg Italy) or making space to treat sick people. I'm glad I didn't have that decision. I was sat in the garden riding out Covid in May 2020.

      There were other ways that we could have dealt with this. Hotels for example, which were largely empty, could have been used to house the elderly patients who weren't in need of hospital care, but were infectious. This would have even allowed the Tories to do the only thing they seem capable of, syphon money to their mates. In any case, doing something that dramatically increased the number of people infected with covid likely only amplified the pressure on hospitals anyway. @@philthompson1097

She had advanced dementia and the care Staff tried their upmost best to try to isolate my mother in her room but were unable to, So my late mother was walking around the care home. Of course with the advanced dementia she became very agitated and tearful and had no understanding of what was happening. Our elderly vulnerable adults were placed in a position beyond their control and unfortunately they paid the price and many died from this terrible disease. This is unlawful and the government certainly has a lot to answer too. Absolutely Criminal.

    It might be worth noting looking at the prescribing of Midazolam and Morphine. It used to be on a per-case basis, but was changed to a per-site basis just before this situation discussed in this video.
    What you see is a sudden and huge increase in Midazolam and Morphine which coincides with a huge spike in care home deaths. Tied in with this is a change in amounts these drugs were administered, up to 4 times the safe limit for a young were applied to elderly Covid sufferers.
    What really happened was a culling of the elderly, and this “releasing” of Covid positive patients into care homes was simply a smokescreen to cover up what had really been done. And no, there is no blame with front-line care staff who were simply carrying out what they had been told to do by managers they trusted.
    Strangely, despite the appalling actions of the Government in its handling of the crisis, the only thing they admitted they had got it wrong was this patient discharge programme. Strange isn’t it? They weren’t at fault for decisions that resulted in hundreds of thousands if deaths, but are admitting to something which is hiding something far, far worse.

The staff had to come into work while waiting for covid test results. They were only allowed to stay home on sick leave if they could show a positive covid test result.
    All but 2 staff contracted covid in a single wave (think it was autumn 2020).
    Over half the patients in those 2 wards died from covid. My relative said staff brought covid onto the ward and killed the patients.
    Lesson learned? No, the following year there was a repeat of exact same situation which decimated the patient population again.

    This is what a decade of austerity did to the country, leaving us ill-prepared for a major pandemic - whether covid or influenza. The NHS was under-resourced and stretched too thinly; social care was even worse; too many people were working zero-hours contracts on minimal pay and therefore unable to afford to be off work if they thought they were ill; no social safety-net for the poorest and most vulnerable in society who were often at the sharp end of the pandemic working in hospitals, care homes, public transport, food manufacturing - all essential services that were expected to continue while the better-off were able to work from home or be furloughed. It is a damning indictment on political choices taken by the Tory government.

      Boris made no provision for Long Covid and lots of people like myself had to carry on working. No choice. Luckily retired and hope now never to see a repeat of this. They were very cavalier with the elderly despite what they have said.

    On 17th March 2000 , 99% of care homes closed to visitors without warning
    That month and April was the hottest in UK history residents were kept in bed , fans were not allowed the poor residents were baking like in an oven . Most were upset because family that visited everyday to feed them give fluids were not allowed into the carehomes , regular staff jumped off sick leaving shortages and temp staff , Barchester was in a frightful state ..plenty of families asked to volunteer Barchester refused it was chaotic, heartbreaking and was needless actions harming old confused people who could not ask for help or tell loved ones of the chaotic situation , they suffered in silence , who instructed this to happen .they should be jailed for life

    Since the 19th century there used to be a network of fever hospitals lying mostly empty, on the outskirts of large cities or in the countryside, waiting for the next epidemic of typhoid, smallpox or whatever. These were all closed or turned into elderly care facilities in the 1960's and 70's, along with the TB hospitals and mental hospitals. There used also to be convalescent hospitals for patients not quite ready to go home, which were replaced by "care in the community."
    The UK has ended up with fewer hospital beds, doctors and nurses than other European countries. That means it's cheaper or more "efficient," but there is less slack to accommodate epidemics or even the usual winter surge. NHS administrators get promotions for "cost saving," which usually means closing beds and making staff redundant.
    Since Theresa May introduced her "Hostile Environment" during David Cameron's days the Tories have also been throwing out foreign doctors and nurses to keep the immigration lobby happy. During the pandemic lots of junior doctors (those earning less than the immigration threshold, so not consultants) and nurses had their deportation suspended for a few months at a time, on a rolling basis. They were mainly African and Asian, the groups that had the highest mortality from covid. There were never enough staff to actually run the large emergency hospitals that were going to be set up in empty warehouses.

    I spent 17 years as an Ambulance Care Assistant and I took LOTS of patients back to care homes who were infected with Covid, so did my colleagues. Mostly because 30% of wards were purposely closed, taped up and stripped of all equipment to allow hospital managers to claim that the hospital was 'full' whilst people sttod idle and had nothing better to do than make TikTok videos.
