My biggest issue with sedan is with the front windows down there is wind buffeting from the b-pilar next to your ear. Lowering the rear windows solves this, but sometimes I'd like to cruise with just the front windows down.
I have manual ‘98 Boston Green 4 dr M3 with a black interior. 1 of 33 M3’s in that colour combo out of the 4574 or so sedans that came to North America. Best vehicle I have ever had.
ooh yummy. I knew a guy who had a manual techno violet sedan with black interior. beautiful car, till it was pitched into a wall at laguna seca. sad day. I bought the lower gauge cluster with coolant temp and oil temp/pressure gauges from it. keep that boston sedan clean my dude!!
I think the sedans are so much sexier than the coupes. Right now I have my second e36 m3 sedan. One day I'd like to buy a coupe and a vert but that's just because I love e36 m3s.
I prefer coupes personally, I’m biased though cuz I own a 95 m3 coupe. Lol Sedan is stiffer which is nice. Doesn’t really matter for a track car anyways as you will be caging it. Caging the car adds a lot of rigidity. I wonder how much of a difference is felt in a street car. Anyways I didn’t realize you get extra headroom with the sedan. That’s pretty awesome. If you have issues with the seats holding you in, get some cloth seats! I got some M cloth sports seats from a 1994 M design/technic 325is. They hold me in way better than my old leather seats.
+1 for caging, for a daily/ weekend warrior a cage might not be doable for budget or practicality, that is where the sedan shines for rigidity. cages change the game completely. if it gets a cage it all goes to shit and doesnt matter which one you get lol. I plan on caging my sedan at some point, a half cage would be nice. I threw in some harnessess and it fixed the issue of the seats, and its alot cheaper than getting a new set of seats lol. I do want to get some nice seats for both my cars, one day:)
@@ClearWater7.62 they are stiffer, I cant tell you by how much though. the coupes have a seamelss glass to glass B-pillar, and the sedan's dont. the B pillar on sedans is much thicker and stronger which make them stiffer.
Right about an acquired taste. My first one was given to me because this guy got it for his son and when he finished law school he just left it in his father's driveway for 2 years. I had it towed to my house where it sat in my driveway for 6 months and every time I came home it would just stare at me begging to be brought back to life. I started to keep my eye out and found a clean one in a neighboring state rented a car went down drove it all the way back now I'm definitely a fanatic.
Sedan has higher roof and more steeper windscreen/back window, shorter bonnet, sedan defo looks less sporty, more like a family car. Great video man. I also dailied an e36 m3 for 4 years, best car I ever owned. Bolt ons and suspension mods makes the car super fun to drive and it was completely different from the day I got it. I now have an e46 m3 with a tune, headers, etc etc and it’s just not the same. Also been eating away at my wallet with maintenance costs. I’m debating between selling my car and buying a friend’s stock slicktop e36 m3 sedan. Should I do it?
all sedan windows have full frame window tracks, so they are much more stable, along with no drop-down micro switches. most coupe window problems are from the window itself getting misaligned in the track because you dont have a track running the full length of the window unlike a sedan. i have never had a single window problem on either of my sedans within the 4 years of ownership, and have rebuilt my window regulator assemblies several times on my convertible within the first 2 years of ownership.
Well now I know why Sedans are cheaper compared to Coupes. For example an E36 M3 Sedan starts from 15k and a Coupe starts from 35k here. And both have 3.2L 321Hp manual 6-transmission
I couldn’t agree more. In fact I put my money where my mouth is... I’m an original owner of a ‘98 M3/4/5. Regardless of the number of doors the lines are just better on the sedan. The coupes look ‘ricey’ from many angles, And you’re right about the sedan seats.. they suck ass ... there’s no side bolster and support on the sides.
I know the specs say they weigh the same but the sedan *has to* be heavier. Think about it; B-pillar steel, 2 extra door mechanisms/window motors/locks/extra steel in the doors (for window surrounds). Plus, the sedan is an inch taller - that's more steel (and glass). I think Zee Germans were just a wee bit lazy in the documentation department for those 2 years. I bought a '95 M3 in Dakar brand new in 1995 - so you know I have exceptional taste! I now own a '98 M3 'vert MT and I am here to inform you that anybody who says the Verts are not real M3 are just stupid assholes. :) Okay, I'm now approaching full blown "old fartdom" but I am not using my M3 as a track rat or for AutoX. I use it for ripping around San Diego back roads with the top down and listening to that awesome inline 6 soundtrack. Plus, I have the hard top and it looks pretty awesome with it on in the "winter" here.
+1 for droptops. my other M3 is a droptop and I absolutely love it. I am currently building a new motor for mine. my droptop was my first E36 love lol. as far as sedan weight goes, I am inclined to agree with you, but there are a few factors to account for. yes, it does have 2 aditional doors. that being said, the coupe makes up for some weight by having an unnecessarily large rear window lol and much larger rear quarter panels. im sure aditional unibody steel weighs more than an aluminum window regulator and plastic door mechanisms. in adition to that, the coupe has a larger rear window, and the dimentions of the car aside from height are the same. so the sedan has a shorter hood, shorter fenders, shorter trunk, ect. less weight per body panel compared to its counterpart.
Sedans are actually lighter, but it's not such a big deal. In Germany, the E36 is THE cheap track tool and there were and are huge discussions about weight advantage. Long story short: both cars can become really light (sub 1100kg) with a full cage with a lot of mods. Both are really fast on track. The sedan is just a little bit lighter, but the difference is smaller than many think, maybe 30kg for a full race car build.
Hello guys how u doing there yes sedan is very nice I have 2 of them. On is 318i 93 its has 200k so far an the 2nd one 325i 95 it has only 108 k fully loaded an both r for sale if any body interested just let me know ..im in Florida..
lmao well, the dimentions are the same. the doors replace quarter panel sheet metal with door shaped sheet metal. not to mention it replaces interior peices with intertior peices, glass with glass, ect. the sedan hood, fenders, trunk, and rear quarter panels are all smaller than the coupe panels, which makes them lighter. a sedan hood is lighter than a coupe hood. so yes, the 2 doors dont give it any more weight.
well ive owned a 4 door honda accord and now i own a 2 door ,,the weight was 500lbs diff,,,i think that would go for other cars..at least that what my registration says
have the same car bro. e36 m3/4/5 alpine. was a lux pkg. added the little details like the front lip, twisties. but went pre-facelift on the grills to the more square wider ones.
M3NACE had a front end touch with a truck. Decided to go pre since the grills are more flush and to try it out. I like it, but I’m a oem+ kinda guy so I go back and forth every week. You know how it is.
i feel it, personally I prefer the facelift grills, but if I got an OBD1 car I dont think I would go out of my way to change them. if its clean, its clean. lol

there are some obvious ways to tell, m3 bumper, skirts, mirrors, M wheels, ect. but you can also search the VIN and see what it comes back as.
well dude you have to go to indonesia, there are a lot of E36 Sedan than a coupe, cheers :D
lmao might make it out there sometime in this life
I just like the styling of the coupe more. I never liked the sedan.
yeah its an aquired taste kind of thing.
More room for the homies
I love my sedan but I want a coupe stilll honestly 😂🤫
so you mean to tell me 2 extra car doors is not gonna weigh more lol ..ok buddy
lmao well, the dimentions are the same. the doors replace quarter panel sheet metal with door shaped sheet metal. not to mention it replaces interior peices with intertior peices, glass with glass, ect. the sedan hood, fenders, trunk, and rear quarter panels are all smaller than the coupe panels, which makes them lighter. a sedan hood is lighter than a coupe hood. so yes, the 2 doors dont give it any more weight.
well ive owned a 4 door honda accord and now i own a 2 door ,,the weight was 500lbs diff,,,i think that would go for other cars..at least that what my registration says
im sure its case by case, each car is different. for E36's they are the exact same weight, only the convertible weights more.
ride well my guy ,,,car is nice tho ..always loved those cars
@@oochiewally2783 cheers brotha, thanks🤘 you should get one in the future lol
My uncle has a 1993 sedan
Ur cappin
Sedan cheaper than coupe
from what ive seen it really depends on the car but autos go for wayy cheaper.
👍agree
No such thing as an E92 sedan hehehehehe
And Yarm 🙄🙄🙄lol
Wrong BMW made sedans for every years of the e36 line up if your saying BMW made sedans from 97 and 98 years how is it that I own a 1992 e36 sedan
you are correct, but I am talking about E36 M3's in this video. they only made M3 Sedans for 97 and 98, you cannot get a 1992 BMW M3 Sedan.
have the same car bro. e36 m3/4/5 alpine. was a lux pkg. added the little details like the front lip, twisties. but went pre-facelift on the grills to the more square wider ones.
nice bro! mines not a lux though lol, you went pre? you like the look better or what?
M3NACE had a front end touch with a truck. Decided to go pre since the grills are more flush and to try it out. I like it, but I’m a oem+ kinda guy so I go back and forth every week. You know how it is.
i feel it, personally I prefer the facelift grills, but if I got an OBD1 car I dont think I would go out of my way to change them. if its clean, its clean. lol
You lost me after you said m3 50 times
Nah m3 same shit ripped off
