I understand the E30 version is more rare and has a precise engine but it didn't seem that fast. The E36 was great. The E46 felt a little too Lexus like. Once I dropped the E46 a little with Eibach springs it was way better. An E46 M3 might be cool but they would have 300k miles by now.
Extremely important and overlooked FACT. Even the E46 M3's LSD is worse than a standard non-M E36's one. Very glad to have two for mine, one recently rebuilt to 45% lock :)
Speaking on the 9:40 ish mark. EGR helps emissions by cooling which reduces NoX gas formation, because NoX cant form below a certain temperature. Also the efficiency gain from leaving exhaust gas in the combustion chamber is because exhaust is inert (it wont react with anything) and basically takes up space without doing anything. So exhaust gas occupies space where fuel/air mixture would normally be. Think of making a mixed drink, with alcohol being the fuel. If you put mixer (exhaust gas) in the cup (combustion chamber) instead of straight alcohol (fuel) you use less alcohol and still fill the cup as intended. With added emissions benefits. Hope that helps, learned about this through reading and college and its simple once you get it but its sort of mind boggling at first 🍻

agreed. my first car at 16 was a e36 5speed 318i then at 18 i got a e36 328is 5speed that shared the same factory ZF trans with the e36 M3 I modded it with like an exhaust clutch flywheel all of that, and cooked the m52 when a rock put a hole through the oil pan then I swapped in the s52 from the e36 M3 and did the old m50 manifold. injectors. intake, and tune. and exploded that after playing soccer all day in the city with some Europeans, money shifted it in Philly coming home at like 110 units of speed or something into 2nd gear, and it became a 5 cylinder s52. then I got bored of all that and just bought an e46 M3, and im on my 2nd one now at 30. e36 is still sitting parked at my parents house with a cooked s52, bilstein pss9 coilovers, and stuff if anyone wants it
EmberShadow 69 if the car is that cheap it’s probably a money pit. Save your money and when you get older spend a little more money to get a nicer example and it should be more dependable. Also never skip a pre purchase inspection especially with BMW’s
As a rule of thumb M50 - cast iron block , idiot proof can be abused M52 - aluminium block, possibility of head bolt threads stripping. Guess how I know that lol
Just a minor thing to note there is an additional engine you missed or maybe it’s a typo, the M52b28 used in the 96-99 E36 328i. I have a 98’ 328i and it has this engine. Otherwise great video 👍🏼
Yea but they also listed a m50b28 which doesn't exist,I think they meant m52b28 instead of m50b28. The 2.8 didn't come back until the m52 came. Supposedly when they changed the displacement from 2.3(badged as 325) to 2.8 the new motors stats where so close to the M3's s50b30(US) stats they had to "nerf" it by slapping on an intake that was 50% more restrictive. They had to do something to justify the extra 10k a M3 cost
I just picked up a 323i with BC coils for £1k few weeks ago. Drove 6 hours to pick it up from the other side of the country with my mates. The coils cost nearly the same as the car 😂

After the worst of COVID I picked up so many relatively cheap BMW’s with shot VANOS systems and flipped them for a phenomenal profit. I love it when enthusiasts buy them and drive them to enjoy them, but a lot of the ones I purchased were from individuals who wanted to appear exponentially more successful than they were and equated owning a BMW to that level of socioeconomic success without fully understanding the cost of parts and repairs.
I already own a e36 and e46 I’m always ahead of the curve. Oddly enough I’m in E46 right now picking up lunch.

I bought a new E36 M3 and had an almost new E46 328i. A dude gave me a ride in an E30 M3 one time and I thought it was kind of a dog. I understand the E30 version is more rare and has a precise engine but it didn't seem that fast. The E36 was great. The E46 felt a little too Lexus like. Once I dropped the E46 a little with Eibach springs it was way better. An E46 M3 might be cool but they would have 300k miles by now.

Nope, my mind always goes straight to the E36 when I hear the BMW 3 series.

Extremely important and overlooked FACT. Even the E46 M3's LSD is worse than a standard non-M E36's one. Very glad to have two for mine, one recently rebuilt to 45% lock :)
Which models of the non m came with an lsd? I have a 96 328is that has an open diff :((

I modded it with like an exhaust clutch flywheel all of that, and cooked the m52 when a rock put a hole through the oil pan
then I swapped in the s52 from the e36 M3 and did the old m50 manifold. injectors. intake, and tune. and exploded that after playing soccer all day in the city with some Europeans, money shifted it in Philly coming home at like 110 units of speed or something into 2nd gear, and it became a 5 cylinder s52.

And with that, the prices of E36 went up to the roof.
